With Dead Child's Attack, Pajo returns to the group scene. Living up to its title, the album is an unrelenting metal assault; a 47-minute love letter to British heavy metal that simultaneously pays homage to and modernizes the sounds of metal luminaries like Judas Priest, Motörhead, and Iron Maiden. Dead Child takes classic metal and makes it their own, combing the galloping pace of the new wave of British heavy metal and adding lumbering, detuned guitar, creating a sound that's crushing and unyielding. "Angel of the Odd" and "Never Bet the Devil Your Head" come barreling out like runaway sonic freight Available On: trains, rolling over everything in their paths without ever slowing down, while also showing Priced from $10.97 to $14.99 off the vocal talents of Dead Child vocalist Dahm, whose versatile wail is reminiscent of See all 6 sellers Bruce Dickinson or Rob Halford. Attack is really at its heaviest when the songs are at their Artist longest. On "The Coldest Hands" and "Black Halo Rider," both clocking in at over seven Dead Child minutes, are dark and thundering minor-key endurance tests. "The Coldest Hands" Album especially seems to pay tribute to the crawling, riff-driven style of Black Sabbath. The one Attack trait that really shines through on every track is sincerity. Dead Child gives a nod to early Rating metal without a coy wink. You'll find no ironic denim vests or tongue-in-cheek glam excess on Attack, just the unrelenting vigor of classic heavy metal. My Morning Jacket My Morning Jacket are perhaps the biggest band from Louisville, Kentucky, in the past decade—and the only band we know of that can unite jam band fanatics, indie rock purists, and classic rock enthusiasts alike. While all of the band’s albums are stellar, we recommend checking out their breakthrough 2003 album It Still Moves, which features “One Big Holiday,” a song that can be considered the “Free Bird” for the iTunes generation. That’s not to say that the bands sound the same—VHS Or Beta’s dance-influenced rock jams are more at home in a trance club setting than the Burning Man festival—but both acts have successfully elbowed aside any genre restrictions and helped to unite seemingly disparate scenes with their music.

Dead Child "Sweet Chariot" 3/10/2008 By Cam Lindsay In a 2005 interview with Billboard, David Pajo (Slint, Papa M, Tortoise, Zwan, etc.) gave details on his “jokingly” named metal band Dead Child, saying "My concept for this band was that we'd all play baritone guitars that would be tuned really low. I didn't want it to be indie-rock metal — I wanted it to be 'death to false metal' metal!’" It’s a quote that seems to have stuck with the band, like a creed, in their bid to indulge in old school power metal, filled with all the trimmings: Dio-esque operatics palm-muted riffage, solos that soar higher than eagles, and morbid fantasies stirring the lyrics. Debut album Attack is set for an April 8 release, and it hits all the nails on the head, as Pajo and Michael McMahan (The For Carnation, Slint reunion) become hypnotised in their thrashing, weaving scale-crawling guitar licks together while vocalist Dahm (Phantom Family Halo, Brothers of Conquest) screams like they used to back when just about every NWOBHM act was shifting millions. “Sweet Chariot” is the album’s lead track/single, and it comes out of the gates at a break-neck pace, spewing fire with a chorus of “Swing low!” that completes the titular nod to the gospel standard. Considering this is true metal, the homage tastes a bit like sacrilege, but I’m sure their Lord Satan will appreciate the effort.

Louisville's musicians introduced a convoluted, angular, cerebral style, that had little in common with rock'n'roll's hedonistic foundations. Basically, theirs was progressive-rock for an age that did not appreciate emphatic emotions anymore. The origins of this school go back to Squirrel Bait. From their ashes a number of bands were born: guitarist Brian McMahan formed Slint and For Carnation; guitarist David Grubbs formed Bastro, Bitch Magnet, and Gastr Del Sol; vocalist Peter Searcy formed Big Wheel. Slint (101), who also featured drummer Britt Walford, bassist Ethan Buckler and guitarist David Pajo, represented a major shift in musical purpose: they were more intimidating than exciting. The mostly- instrumental music of Tweez (fall 1987 - ? 1989) kept the tension and the neurosis of hardcore but lost the passion and the narrative logic.
