Estimating Railway Ridership
28-04-2016 Estimating Railway Ridership DEMAND FOR NEW RAILWAY STATIONS IN THE NETHERLANDS TSJIBBE HARTHOLT S1496352 COMMITTEE: K. GEURS (Chairman) University of Twente L. LA PAIX PUELLO University of Twente T. BRANDS Goudappel Coffeng 0 1 I. SUMMARY Demand estimation for new railway stations is an essential step in determining the feasibility of a new proposed railway stations. Multiple demand estimation models already exist. However these are not always accurate or freely available for use. Therefore a new demand estimation model was developed which is able to provide rail ridership estimations. Main question of this thesis that will be answered is: How can the daily number of passengers of a new train station be forecasted on the basis of departure station choice and network accessibility? Aim is to estimate a demand estimation model which is valid for the whole of the Netherlands and focusses on proposed sprinter train stations. Factors determining total rail ridership Rail ridership can be determined by three main factors: Built environment factors Socio-economic factors Network dependent factors Built environment factors are factors that describe the situation in the direct environment of the station. A subdivision can be made into station environment factors based on the three d’s as described by Cervero and Knockel-man (1997): o Density: Describing the amount of activities in the proximity of the station. This could be the e.g. number of jobs, number of students, shops or total population. o Diversity: describing the diversity of the activities that take place in the proximity of the station. o Design: variables describing the properties of a station (area) as a direct consequence of its design. -

Descendants of Petrus Dormans from Schinnen. Chapter 8. Descendants of Mathias Dormans from Schinnen. Chapter 9. Descendants of Nicolaas Dormans from Brunssum. !1 Chapter 1. Introduction. The oldest ancestor of the family Dormans was Mathias, who married in 1597 in Heerlen. It appears that even in the twentieth century near all relatives are born in South-Limburg. The very extensive lineages of this Limburgian family needed a clear overview . The period before 1700 has been described in chapter 4. It contains the first four generations from 1597. About 1700 five lineages come forward, respectively Petrus Dormans from Schimmert (chapter 5), Mathias Dormans from Nuth (chapter 6), Petrus Dormans from Schinnen (chapter 7), Mathias Dormans from Schinnen (chapter 8) and Nicolaas Dormans from Brunssum (chapter 9). In chapters 5-9 the five lineages have been described separately from the fifth generation . Reason for this investigation. For the 50-year anniversary of the marriage of my parents I would like to give them a pedigree of our family. It was not only interesting how the first names of my ancestors were, but also the birth places and their profession. My grandfather was Jan Peter Aloysius Dormans, he was a farmer in Doenrade. His father and grandfather were also farmers. It is a pity that in the ecclesiastical archives before 1800 no professions are mentioned. -

Dankzij een groot aantal ecoducten, faunapassages, looprichels, duikers en andere verbindingen kunnen otter, hert, das en vele andere diersoorten weer veilig oversteken. Brachiopod Gyrosoria Cooper, 1973 a Comparative Palaeoecological, Stratigraphical and Taxonomical Study
Brachiopod Gyrosoria Cooper, 1973 a comparative palaeoecological, stratigraphical and taxonomical study JAN SKLENÁØ & ERIC SIMON Cooper (1973) erected Gyrosoria as a monospecific genus for Terebratulites gracilis von Schlotheim, 1813. G. gracilis from white-chalk facies was studied in detail by Steinich (1965) and its morphological adaptation to the environment was discussed by Surlyk (1972). However, populations of G. gracilis, adapted to a high energy environment remained unnoticed and therefore special attention is paid to them in this paper. “Terebratulina” lata Etheridge, 1881, placed here in the genus Gyrosoria, has often been mentioned within the literature and has been used as a zone fossil for more than a century. However, its morphology and its relation to other reported cancellothyridid species has not been studied in de- tail since its erection. This paper presents an emended diagnosis of the genus, officially assigns the revised lata species to it and presents a detailed morphological study of the genus. The variability of G. lata, studied here, and compared to that of both, the low- and high-energy-environment forms of G. gracilis, points out a clear evolutionary lineage within the genus. Spicular skeletons have been investigated in some Upper Turonian G. lata shells. Particular attention is given to the shell infrastructure. Moreover this paper shows that the palaeogeographical area of G. lata can now be enlarged but a wider application of this species in biostratigraphy should be refused due to the extension of its stratigraphical range. • Key words: Brachiopoda, Cancellothyridoidea, Upper Cretaceous, environmental adaptation, palaeoecology, shell structure, biostratigraphy. ZONATTON AND DATING 104 1 2 C. R. JANSSEN CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION The history of the vegetation found in the southern part of the of to now unknown. This is province Limburg was up practically partly due to the scarcity of peat sediments which makes this region with other of the unattractive to palynologists. Compared parts Netherlands South Limburg shows in its soil as well as in its climate a particular character. The soil in the area investigated by us consists of limestone and of loess. For that reason and also on account of its somewhat different climate its vegetation presently differs conspic- uously from that found in the other parts of the Netherlands.
