If kids are from the same household they are allowed to sail together. Under the current DOBAR rules: "No more than two people are allowed on any boat in state waters unless they are part of a single residential or family unit sharing the same address. Both people on the boat are required to maintain physical distancing of six feet from one another, as is reasonably possible." It would be impractical to keep 6' of distance in our small boats. In the 17' whalers and other safety boats we will be able to keep this distancing and use one instructor plus one other in the motorboats. US Sailing has been very helpful in putting out guidelines on starting sailing classes back up during the COVID-19 Pandemic with three different modification levels. You can also find their guidance for return to competition and Sample Regatta and Non-Regatta Waiver Templates here: Bic sailors Michael Kai, Cameron, Makani and Sage https://www.ussailing.org/membership/organizations/resources/ I am on the COVID-19 think group for US Sailing and it's been really insightful seeing what other programs are doing around the country. Some states that have lesser boating regulations are allowing double handed sailing with waivers signed from parents saying that they agree to their child sailing with another specific crew member. If our Boating regulations loosen up we could use this as well. For now we have been having afternoon recreational sailing days three days a week and have had El Toros, Toppers, Lasers, O'Pen Skiffs and many WASZPS out. When our personal WASZP arrives, hopefully this month, it will be the tenth one at KYC! 7 of these boats are in the back on the new WASZP/Laser rack that we built in February. US Sailing has also had many interesting and informative online group discussions on a wide variety of sailing talks. From racing tips from Olympic sailors to one coming up on June 4 titled Sailing/COVID-19 FAQs.     The Economist as Plumber Esther Duflo ∗ 23 January 2017 Abstract As economists increasingly help governments design new policies and regulations, they take on an added responsibility to engage with the details of policy making and, in doing so, to adopt the mindset of a plumber. Plumbers try to predict as well as possible what may work in the real world, mindful that tinkering and adjusting will be necessary since our models gives us very little theoretical guidance on what (and how) details will matter. This essay argues that economists should seriously engage with plumbing, in the interest of both society and our discipline. Economists are increasingly getting the opportunity to help governments around the world design new policies and regulations. This gives them a responsibility to get the big picture, or the broad design, right. But in addition, as these designs actually get implemented in the world, this gives them the responsibility to focus on many details about which their models and theories do not give much guidance. There are two reasons for this need to attend to details. First, it turns out that policy makers rarely have the time or inclination to focus on them, and will tend to decide on how to address them based on hunches, without much regard for evidence. Figuring all of this out is therefore not something that economists can just leave to policy makers after delivering their report: if they are taking on the challenge to influence the real world, not only do they need to give general prescriptions, they must engage with the details.

The boat reluc- tantly responds, the mast tilting skyward, rising from the sea. I taste the salt of ocean spray that catches me unaware after so many years of sailing fresh-waters. Equilibrium restored, seawater emptying through the automatic bailers, our sailboat moves across the water in ecological tension between human, craft, wind, and geography. Martin tends to the navigation, attentive weight- ing of hand on tiller, as I set the jib and cleat the sheet. Shifting body weight, secured by the trapeze,I feel the arc of body, an embodied inter- pretation of movement in response to the wind’s presence in the tautness of the sails.     2019 One Design Classes and Sailor Survey [email protected] One Design Classes and Sailor Survey One Design sailing is a critical and fundamental part of our sport. In late October 2019, US Sailing put together a survey for One Design class associations and sailors to see how we can better serve this important constituency. The survey was sent via email, as a link placed on our website and through other USSA Social media channels. The survey was sent to our US Sailing members, class associations and organizations, and made available to any constituent that noted One-Design sailing in their profile. Some interesting observations: • Answers are based on respondents’ perception of or actual experience with US Sailing. • 623 unique comments were received from survey respondents and grouped into “Response Types” for sorting purposes • When reviewing data, please note that “OTHER” Comments are as equally important as those called out in a specific area, like Insurance, Administration, etc. • The majority of respondents are currently or have been members of US Sailing for more than 5 years, and many sail in multiple One-Design classes • About 1/5 of the OD respondents serve(d) as an officer of their primary OD class; 80% were owner/drivers of their primary OD class; and more than 60% were members of their primary OD class association. • Respondents to the survey were most highly concentrated on the East and West coasts, followed by the Mid- West and Texas – though we did have representation from 42 states, plus Puerto Rico and Canada. • Most respondents were male.

Turluck Every year the LMSRF Grants-in-Aid Fund is assigned monies from the LMSRF Endowment Fund for distribution to LMSRF Individual Members and LMSRF Member sailing organizations to improve skills and competition of sailors in the Lake Michigan area by its Grants-in-Aid Committee. In 2017, $20,278.57 was assigned; to date $12,790.00 has been pledged or distributed. Funds that remain after December 31 are returned to the LMSRF Endowment Fund. We have funded individuals and teams to US and International Championships, individuals and teams to clinics, and Sailing Instructor scholarships. Applying for a grant is easy! First review the requirements: http://lmsrf.org/grants-in-aid/grants-requirements. Second, download, fill in our application, save and email it to the LMSRF Grants-in-Aid Committee Chair and the Office as described on the form: http://www.lmsrf.org/images/stories/docs/lmsrf_grants_in_aid_application.doc.
