H-9. The reasons for the designation are as follows: The McNaught Homestead dates from about 1911. Architecturally, it is an excellent collection of early homestead structures including a log house, frame pump house, large log and frame barn, small log barn, log chicken coop that date to the initial settlement 1827 THE ALBERTA GAZETTE, PART I, AUGUST 15, 2003 period of the homestead. The development of the homestead site allowed for the addition of buildings as they became required, including the former Appleton Log School that was moved onto the property in the 1930s. The site planning is organic with buildings being located in a seemingly haphazard fashion to the south and west of the main house. The integrity of the collection of buildings is very high. The historical interest of the McNaught Homestead lies in its direct association with Euphemia (Betty) McNaught, one of Alberta's most highly recognized artists who lived there most of her life. The McNaught homestead, and its immediate environs were featured in many of her paintings and the former Appleton School that was moved onto the site in the 1930s, functioned as her studio. The natural environmental features of the homestead and surrounding property have remained unaltered over the years and contribute greatly to the integrity of the site. Historically, the McNaught Homestead is also associated with the Christian Association and is one of the most complete collections of buildings dating from 1910 to 1914, the first settlement wave of the Peace River Region of Alberta. It is therefore considered that the preservation and protection of the resource is in the public interest. Dated July 23, 2003. Mark Rasmussen, Assistant Deputy Minister Cultural Facilities and Historical Resources Division. _______________ File: Des. 2119 Notice is hereby given that sixty days from the date of service of this Notice and its publication in Alberta Gazette, the Minister of Community Development intends to make an Order that the sites known as the Searle Grain Company and United Grain Growers-Alberta Wheat Pool Grain Elevator Site Complexes together with the land legally described as: FIRST: MERIDIAN 4 RANGE 20 TOWNSHIP 32 SECTION 21 THAT PORTION OF THE NORTH WEST QUARTER LYING TO THE NORTH OF A LINE DRAWN PERPENDICULAR TO THE WESTERN BOUNDARY OF THE SAID QUARTER SECTION FROM A POINT HEREIN DISTANT 1082.5 FEET SOUTHERLY THEREON FROM THE NORTH WEST CORNER OF SAID QUARTER SECTION AND LYING TO THE WEST OF THE WESTERLY LIMITS OF THE STATION GROUNDS ON PLAN RY428 AND SOUTH OF THE SOUTHERLY LIMIT OF PARCEL 'D' ON PLAN 53/58 EXCEPTING THEREOUT: THAT PORTION INCLUDED WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE SURVEYED ROAD ON PLAN 4457EZ EXCEPTING THEREOUT ALL MINES AND MINERALS SECONDLY: MERIDIAN 4 RANGE 20 TOWNSHIP 32 SECTION 21 THAT PORTION OF THE NORTH WEST QUARTER BOUNDED AS FOLLOWS: ON THE NORTH BY A STRAIGHT LINE DRAWN AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE WEST BOUNDARY OF SAID QUARTER SECTION FROM A POINT 1082.5 FEET SOUTHERLY THEREON FROM THE NORTH WEST CORNER THEREOF, ON THE EAST BY THE WEST LIMIT OF PLAN RY428, ON THE SOUTH BY THE NORTH LIMIT OF ROAD PLAN 4456EZ, ON THE WEST BY THE WEST BOUNDARY OF THE SAID QUARTER SECTION CONTAINING 1.365 HECTARES (3.372 ACRES) MORE OR LESS EXCEPTING THEREOUT ALL MINES AND MINERALS and municipally located at Rowley, Alberta be designated as PROVINCIAL HISTORIC RESOURCES under Section 20 of the HISTORICAL RESOURCES ACT, R.S.A.
