Steve Sanders is committed to working with the city and county to aid them in securing extra money from thestate for improvements to our roads and bridges. We simply do not have enough tax base in this county to have the quality of roads that other counties have. We wereSHOCKED to learn two reasons why many roads are in the poor state of repair. First, our State Highway Department has experienced almost no growth in the last five years, having grown only 5% for the period July 1982 to July 1987. Obviously, roads have not been a priority of our current legislature. . Second, we learned that in years past, many areas of this State have received millions of dollars directly from the state legislature to aid in improving their roads. However, this part of Lincoln County has received no such special assistance. These moneys do not come from the State General Fund, but from severance tax bond revenues. To g~ve an example of the swns expended in the last four years and the places it went just read on: 600,000 Texico port of entry 1,000,000 Alamogordp 2,000,000 Santa Fe 400,000 Espanola 4.000,000 White Rock 3,000,000 Farmington 100,000 Aztec 900 000 Hobbs 1,175,000 State Road 170 583:500 RUidoso 3,000,000 State Road 264 2,000,000 San Jon 4,500,000 White Horse 3,500,000 N.M.170 250,000 White Horse 3,500,000 Laguna 1,000,000 ~ogordo 750,000 Atrisco 52\b000 Clovis 7;),000 Deming historical museum / 100,000 Lovington geneology facility 19 0 1983 Road Project/> 7,000,000 Highway 44 1,900,000 Roswell 1,200,000 Highway 39 3,975,000 Silver City, Taos, Hobbs, 2,500,000 Hobbs FarmintW>n 500,000 Roosevelt County Road 3,000,000 Crownpoint to Ambrosia 750,000 Roswell Lake 500,000 Ocate 5,000,000 Corrales 1,000,000 State Road 279 5,000,000 State Road 44 500,000 Rio Castilla 1,500,000 Alamogordo 300,000 Tomasita 200,000 Atrlsco street 350,000 Sandoval County 900,000 State Road 39 2,700,000 Alamogordo 200,000 Atrisco 1,500,000 Santa Fe Clearly, millions of dollars are provided each year for specific community and county projects all over this state. SENIOR CITIZENS As W:it~ roa~ and water px:ojects, the state legislature has beengeperous in aiding in the building or unprovement of Senior Centers across the State.
