Even today this is a field to deal with cliches, stereotypes, a platform for discussions about this activity type independence and its role in modern society.

FROM GAY Wc NG The HAI CHAI VARIETY SHOW was here in Chinatown for 13 days, and will start another two weeks in Los Angeles from February 26th0 After that they v/ill be in New York for-tv/o weeks* The show cbtoges some of the acts every three to five days* They do have at least the total of 28 different acts, consisting o^ singing, dancing, acrobatics, juggling, high wire, balancing, magic .strong men, trapeze, etc* Some of the juggling tricks were done by a fellow juggling three fire torches* He starts by placing one lit fire torch on his forehead in a balance* He then juggles the three torches over the left and right shoulders, under both legs and then he showers them. A FREE H.EADSTAND is done with the sister being the bear er, and the younger_brother on top. What really got me is this is the first time I ever saw a free headstand with part- ener WITHOUT ANY HEAD GRUMF/.ET OR HEAD DOUGHNUT! They balance for well over five minutes doing the cha-cha-cha dance and then later on they light up a cigarette. They also do some ^ugp-ling and the brother on top spins some rings with his feet. A great act indeed* I am happy to say that I saw the show 3 times, Mr. Hai Ken Hsin, Captain of the team, invited me two of the times* I was talking to him in his room and I just mentioned could he perform the free headvStand also? He hopped right into it -right on the rug, no rings, *nothirig.

Josip Marcan - President For the 1981 and 1982 season, my new mixed act of lions and tigers has been exclusively contracted by the Hawthorn Circus Corp. for bookings. But the ani- mals and equipment remain solely owned by me. However, I have trained and added to my act - 8 ti- gers belonging to the Hawthorn Circus Corp., enlarg- ing my act to 19 animals. My enlarged act shall be re- ferred to as: Marcan's Mixed Lions and Tigers Com- bined with the Hawthorn Tigers. "There's no reason why the circus can't change with the times." – Guy Caron At the end of 1998, the creative team behind so many of Cirque du Soleil's productions in the 1990s - Franco Dragone, Michel Crete and Dominique Lemieux - concluded their remarkable run of artistic and professional development with the company, leaving the creative reins to future shows in the hands of others and giving Cirque du Soleil an interesting dilemma to overcome during the first-half of the new millennium: how to move on from a very successful run of productions under the helm of Franco Dragone and his team of conceptors and show the world it could still re-invent the circus. Faced with the challenge of mounting a new show, with a new team, in a compressed period of time, Guy Laliberté turned to an old friend: Guy Caron. Since he had left Cirque in 1988, Caron had maintained friendly relations with Laliberté. In 1992, he had even directed a show called “Cirque Knie Presents Cirque du Soleil” for the Swiss National Circus, produced in collaboration with Cirque. Caron's job wasn't easy, though. He'd have to pick up the creative pieces and attempt to meet or exceed the expectations laid down by the likes of Quidam, “O” and La Nouba. Despite the challenges - or perhaps because of them - Laliberté and Caron were able to show that it was the creative juices of the whole rather than just one man that drove the company, and it was during this period of transition that Cirque du Soleil began to branch out beyond theatrical productions; Cirque would dive into the realm of motion pictures and television full-force with Journey of Man (IMAX film), Fire Within (reality series) and Solstrom (variety series).

    America's News English It's a Toss Up Catch the juggling craze at annual festival - in Lincolnshire Daily Herald - Thursday, April 22, 2004 Author: Abby Scalf Daily Herald Staff Writer Every month, festivals are planned around the country to bring people together to toss around a few balls or clubs or other props. This weekend, Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire is the location for Toss Up, a juggling festival that attracts the best jugglers from every state. The eighth annual event is sponsored by the school's community juggling club, said club sponsor Larry Scalzitti. The club is made up of students and area residents. "Once you get the juggling bug, it is hard to put things down," he said. Every day, spectators can either juggle or watch others in the school's field house. Open juggling will run from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event attracted 500 people last year. Scalzitti said juggling is a great hobby because the list of props and tricks for each prop is endless. Toss Up attracts some of the greatest jugglers, not only to meet and greet visitors, but also to lead workshops. Workshops from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday are geared for beginners to advanced jugglers. Instructors will cover all types of props, such as balls, clubs, cigar boxes and devil sticks. The festival also will feature vendors around the country who will sell props and juggling games and offer a free raffle Sunday.
