RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World Produced by Montreal film company Rezolution Pictures Selected for 2017 Sundance Film Festival in World Documentary Category Executive Producer: Tim Johnson, Senior Advisor of Bravo Niagara! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 1, 2016 - (Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario) Bravo Niagara! proudly congratulates Rezolution Pictures and Tim Johnson, a conceptual author and executive producer of the documentary RUMBLE: The Indians Who Rocked the World, on their film being invited to have its World Premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Inspired by the Smithsonian Institution exhibit “Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians In Popular Culture," created by Tim Johnson (Mohawk) and Stevie Salas (Apache) for the National Museum of the American Indian, RUMBLE will tell the story of a profound, essential and, until now, missing chapter in the history of American music. In their role as executive producers of the documentary Tim and Stevie have continued to provide input and guidance on its content and development. “We couldn’t be more pleased than to have Tim as our senior advisor,” said Christine Mori, Artistic Director of Bravo Niagara!. “His experience at the highest level of directing a world-class art, history, and culture institution and of producing critically acclaimed exhibits and inspirational performing arts programs adds great strength and value to Bravo Niagara!’s persistent pursuit of curatorial excellence.” RUMBLE is the only exclusively Canadian-produced film announced by Sundance on Wednesday. RUMBLE, which is currently in post-production, is produced by the award-winning Montreal film company Rezolution Pictures. Directed by Catherine Bainbridge and co-directed by Alfonso Maiorana, RUMBLE was one of 113 feature-length films selected from among 13,782 Sundance film submissions (including 4,068 feature-length films and 8,985 short films). RUMBLE features biographies of Native music icons such as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Robbie Robertson, Mildred Bailey, Charley Patton, Oscar Pettiford, Jimi Hendrix, Rita Coolidge, and Jesse Ed Davis, supported by interviews with an impressive roster of participants including Quincy Jones, Tony Bennett, Martin Scorsese, Buddy Guy, Steven Van Zandt, and many others. “The honour of being invited to World Premiere RUMBLE at Sundance is both humbling and deeply gratifying,” said Mr. Johnson. “The thesis and concept for our original exhibit emerged when we were researching Native musicians who had success crossing over into mainstream culture. We discovered that their individual and collective contributions actually influenced and shaped several music genres spanning generations within popular music history.” Over a period of ten years Mr. Johnson’s executive leadership at the Smithsonian, as associate director for Museum Programs at the National Museum of the American Indian, produced a long list of critically acclaimed exhibits, influential programs, award-winning books and films, lectures, events, and periodicals, creating an era that significantly advanced the institution's museology and reputation. Bravo Niagara! believes music has the power to provide a platform for underrepresented voices and histories and is thrilled that Rezolution Pictures will be bringing international recognition to the vital contributions Native North Americans have made to popular music history.
