Why I Take Seriously…
Policy Manual Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan Policies and Procedures Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan Preamble What you are holding is the Policies and Procedures Manual of the Archdiocese of Grouard- McLennan. This manual has been put together with a couple of goals in mind: 1. To provide information on the history and development of the Archdiocese, that is not easily found elsewhere; 2. To provide the policies and procedures that pastors, lay pastoral animators, councils and committees may need to follow in their administration and ministry in the Archdiocese. As much as possible, this same information will be available on the Archdiocesan web-site (http://archgm.ca), but it is found here in a printed format for the benefit of those who do not easily use a computer or have access to one. In selecting policies and procedures, the College of Consultors / Council of Priests has made every effort to include here only those matters which are not adequately found elsewhere in the Code of Canon Law (CGC), or the Canonical and Pastoral Guide for Parishes (CPGP) Canadian Edition 2006, published by Wilson & Lafleur (Montreal). Every parish must have a copy of these two works as well. As further policies and procedures are enacted, or as those found in this manual are amended, the current policies and procedures will be sent to every parish, as well as posted on the Archdiocesan website. UMBRIA Is a Region of Central Italy
UMBRIA Is a region of central Italy. It includes lake Trasimeno and Marmore Falls, and is crossed by the River Tiber. The regional capital is Perugia. Umbria is known for its landscapes, traditions, history, culinary de- lights, artistic legacy, and influence on culture. The region is characterized by hills, mountains, valleys and historical towns such as the university centre of Perugia, Assisi, a World Heritage Site associated with St. Francis of Assisi, the Basilica of San Francesco and other Franciscan sites, works by Giotto and Cimabue, Terni, the hometown of St. Valentine, Norcia, the hometown of St. Benedict, Città di Castello, main center of the early Renaissance situated in the Tiber High Valley, Gubbio, the hometown of t. Ubaldo, Spoleto, Orvieto, Todi, hometown of the Fran- ciscan mystic Jacopone da Todi, Castiglione del Lago, Narni, Amelia, and other small cities. Umbria is bordered by Tuscany to the west and the north, Marche to the east and Lazio to the south. Partly hilly and mountainous, and partly flat and fer- tile owing to the valley of the Tiber, its topography includes part of the central Apennines In antiquity, the plain was covered by a pair of shallow, interlock- ing lakes, the Lacus Clitorius and the Lacus Umber. They were drained by the Romans over several hun- dred years. The eastern part of the region, being crossed by many faults, has been often hit by earth- quakes: the last ones have been that of 1997 (which hit Foligno, Assisi and Nocera Umbra) and those of 2016 (which struck Norcia and the Valnerina). -
PROFESSIONE VISITANDINA – M Falco

May, 2019 Worthy Sir Knights, We are finally closing in on the end of the fraternal year and it has been a great one. May is upon us and with it comes beautiful weather, Mother's Day, Graduations, and the honoring of service members that made the ultimate sacrifice, Memorial Day. The recent Patriot Trail event to the National Museum of the Marine Corps was a great opportunity to reflect on these brave soldiers and we will have more opportunities to do so in the future. -
The Martyrology of the Monastery of the Ascension
The Martyrology of the Monastery of the Ascension Introduction History of Martyrologies The Martyrology is an official liturgical book of the Catholic Church. The official Latin version of the Martyrology contains a short liturgical service the daily reading of the Martyrology’s list of saints for each day. The oldest surviving martyologies are the lists of martyrs and bishops from the fourth-century Roman Church. The martyrology wrongly attributed to St. Jerome was written in Ital in the second half of the fifth century, but all the surviving versions of it come from Gaul. It is a simple martyrology, which lists the name of the saint and the date and place of death of the saint. Historical martyrologies give a brief history of the saints. In the eighth and ninth centuries, St. Bede, Rhabanus Maurus, and Usuard all wrote historical martyrologies. The Roman Martyrology, based primarily on Usuard’s, was first published in 1583, and the edition of 1584 was made normative in the Roman rite by Gregory XIII. The post-Vatican II revision appeared first in 2001. A revision that corrected typographical errors and added 117 people canonized by Pope John Paul II between 2001 and 2004, appeared in 2005.1 The Purpose and Principles of This Martyology The primary purpose of this martyrology is to provide an historically accurate text for liturgical use at the monastery, where each day after noon prayer it is customary to read the martyrology for the following day. Some things in this martyrology are specific to the Monastery of the Ascension: namesdays of the members of the community, anniversaries of members of the community who have died, a few references to specific events or saints of local interest. -
