OFFICE OF THE BISHOP

March 6, 2019

Dear Pastors, Pastoral Leaders and Parish Administrators,

As we travel the path of missionary discipleship together, I think it is only fitting that we remember the grave challenges faced by Christians today in the Holy Land. Unfortunately, life for our brothers and sisters in the Middle East is of great trial, as war and terrorism claim the lives and livelihoods of innocent Christians.

I write to you today to ask you to inspire awareness and charitable generosity among your parishioners toward the severe hardships Christians face in the Holy Land and the Middle East. This time of year provides a fitting opportunity to reflect on the trials of these families by encouraging your congregation to offer their Lenten prayers and sacrifices for them.

Once again we will be conducting the Good Friday Holy Land Collection. This is another way to offer assistance to the Christians in the Holy Land. The monies raised from the Good Friday Collection go to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land who oversee the preservation of the Holy Sites and assist the Christians who have lived in the Holy Land since the time of Christ.

Just as last year, the Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem have offered to help promote this collection in our diocese during the upcoming Lenten season. They have developed promotional materials, including posters, weekly reflections, bulletin and Mass announcements, which are included in these Parish Pages.

In parishes that have members of the Equestrian Order, they may ask for permission to give a short announcement at the weekend Masses prior to the collection and perhaps request assistance in facilitating it. I want to express my sincere gratitude to you in advance for any and all assistance that you offer them to help promote awareness of the devastating plight of Christians in the Holy Land. Your inspiration and pastoral encouragement will help increase the donations collected during this Good Friday Collection.

In this Lenten season, I am grateful for your continued efforts on behalf of Christ and His Church as I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend David L. Ricken, DD, JCL, KC*HS Bishop of Green Bay eptember - October 2013P.O. Box 23825 1825 Riverside Drive Green Bay, WI 54305-3825

Mass Intentions and Stipends for Senior (Retired) Priests

March 2019

Mass Stipends are needed for our retired priests. The priests appreciate being able to have an intention for the Masses that they pray, and the stipends also are a source of help for them in their retirement. Currently, we have few intentions and stipends to offer them.

You may send stipends from your parish to:

Mass Stipends Fr. William O’Brien E490 County Road KB Denmark, WI 54208

Please include the name of the intention for the stipends. Fr. O’Brien will forward the intentions and stipends to our senior priests.

Please make checks payable to the Leo Benevolent Association

The World Mission Office of the Diocese also receives Mass stipends, and forwards them to missionary priests.

Gratefully, Fr. Luke Ferris Vicar for Clergy 920-272-8165 [email protected]

PS - You may also wish to include this message in your parish bulletin:

MASS INTENTIONS: In recent years, our parish has not been able to accept as many Mass intentions as in earlier years. However, there are other options for you to remember your deceased loved ones through a Mass intention. Many retired priests in our diocese, as well as priests in mission areas, would be happy to pray for your intention at Masses they celebrate. You may contact the parish office to make these arrangements. The offering/stipend for a Mass is $10.

Parish Software Replacement Project Update

The process of migrating Parish data from ParishSOFT to Gabriel Software has begun. We have 6 Parishes that have converted to Gabriel. We have been working with the 6 pilot parishes to develop a template that we can use to convert the remaining 151 parishes in the Diocese of Green Bay. I am able to report that the first 6 migrations have gone smoothly and data integrity checks after the migration have been minor adjustments to the process and data.

The template for migration is a four step process.

1. Clean current ParishSOFT data. Addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses are important data elements in Gabriel Software. The current registration, family, and member status will convert to Gabriel in their current state if not adjusted before moving day. 2. Train all Parish staff in Gabriel Software. We have a great deal of training material available all online. Travel to another location is not required to receive the material needed to operate the software. Getting staff logged in and comfortable with Gabriel should be completed at this time. 3. Move Parish data to Gabriel. Plan on one day without the software. We have been converting in less time, but a day without any software available should be planned. 4. Validate the accuracy of the data moved to Gabriel. Once the number of records and the accuracy of the records moved have been validated in Gabriel. The Parish is live in Gabriel and regular ministry can begin in the software.

Gabriel Software is different than what we have been using. Gabriel is designed to support relationship building with our families and membership. Gabriel even trademarked the name Parishioner Relationship Management. This software is a tool to support our mission of fostering households and communities of discipleship through the mission and ministry of the Catholic Church. A way to keep us organized as we Discover Jesus, Follow Jesus, Worship Jesus, and Share Jesus with each household in our mission field.

St Gabriel is the patron of communications because Gabriel delivered God’s most important messages. Gabriel has a reputation of being the messenger. This is the reason Gabriel was chosen as the name for this software tool.

If you have any questions, or your need to schedule time to implement your Parish, please contact Roy Verstegen at Phone (920) 272-8251 or email [email protected].

Revised 2/2017

Dear Parish Leaders,

We are called to love our neighbor. But, like the scholar in the scripture passage, we may find ourselves wondering, “Who is my neighbor?” This Lent, CRS Rice Bowl—Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program, will help us answer that question.

We are invited to reflect on how an encounter with our neighbor can be transformative. We will see how our prayers, fasting and alms can support those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities.

Join nearly 14,000 faith communities in 180 dioceses around the U.S. in prayer, fasting and almsgiving this Lent. Together, we will serve our brothers and sisters most in need around the world while forming families and faith communities in global solidarity. I invite you to take action to build the culture of encounter as missionary disciples with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) this Lent.

Here are some easy ways to get started:

1. Watch “How to Kick off CRS Rice Bowl” for 5 easy steps to getting CRS Rice Bowl started in your parish. (Check it out at crsricebowl.org/parishes!)

2. Order FREE English or Spanish materials online at crsricebowl.org/order or by calling 1-800-222-0025. (And download the CRS Rice Bowl app in English and Spanish for iOS and Android devices!)

• Order CRS Rice Bowls (one per household). These cardboard bowls are used to collect each family’s Lenten alms. Each CRS Rice Bowl comes with a Lenten calendar with a reflection for each day of Lent which families can read together. • The Coordinator’s Guide comes with each order and contains resources to help integrate CRS Rice Bowl into your faith community.

3. Plan a time to distribute CRS Rice Bowls to each member of your parish community. Your pastor can bless the CRS Rice Bowls during Mass (find a sample blessing in the Coordinator’s Guide). Consider asking students in your parish to distribute CRS Rice Bowls after Mass.

If you have any questions about CRS Rice Bowl, please contact me [email protected] or [email protected].

Thank you for considering CRS Rice Bowl as a part of your parishioners’ faith journey!
