It means I get to display my car in numerous concours, and have the opportunity to win trophies and awards. And It means about 25+ more items that I can add to the list. I bet you can even think of more than that. It’s so much more than just a car club, it’s an ability to participate in a life style that we all are so fortunate to have the means to do so. Maranello Motorsport History of the 1962-1964 Ferrari 250 GTO Considered by many to be the best and most beautiful sports car in the world, the Ferrari 250 GTO is also one of the rarest and most desirable. The last front-engined sports racing car that was competitive on the world’s stage, the GTO was billed to the FIA as a “continuation” of the 250 SWB, and its legendary initials stand for “Gran Turismo Omologato”. 100 cars were required for homologated for Grand Touring competition, but only 36 were constructed with an additional three 330 GTOs (the same car with a 4.0-liter V-12), meaning that Ferrari was indeed able to convince the FIA that the GTO was an evolution of the SWB.

  • COMPETIZIONE DAYTONAS, from $300,000 to $2,000,000 by Michael Sheehan
COMPETIZIONE DAYTONAS, FROM $300,000 to $2,000,000 By Michael Sheehan The first 365GTB/4 to be entered in competition was this example, s/n 12547, which was unsuccessfully campaigned by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team in 1969 and 1970. It may seem that the Ferrari Daytona was always destined for a racing career. Its fabled name came from the internal designation for the new 365 GTB/4 coupe, a tribute to the 1-2-3 victory of the Ferrari 330 P4s at the 1967 Daytona 24 hours. Yet checkered flags couldn’t have been further from the factory’s plan for the 365 GTB/4. When it entered production in 1969, Ferrari was already overcommitted to both its Formula 1 program and the 512 M Sports Prototype program. With 1970 FIA regulations requiring 500 examples be built to be eligible to race in Group 4 for Special Grand Touring cars, it seemed unlikely that a Daytona would ever run in its namesake race. To top it all off, in a fit of pique over the leak of the name to the public, Enzo Ferrari dictated that “Daytona” was never to be used by the factory. ENTER NART With no factory interest or support, North American Ferrari importer Luigi Chinetti and his North American Racing Team took matters into their own hands. They were the first to race a Daytona, an early production car, S/N 12547. Delivered by Scaglietti with an alloy body, a token roll cage and an outside fuel filler, Chinetti entered it in the 1969 Le Mans 24 hours.

  • Seventy Years of Le Mans Triumphs on Display at the Ferrari Museum
Seventy years of Le Mans triumphs on display at the Ferrari Museum Maranello, 16 Jan. 2019 - The ‘Ferrari at 24 Heures du Mans’ exhibition opened at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, to celebrate seventy years of Prancing Horse victories in the world's most famous endurance race. Visitors can look back over the 36 wins recorded on the French track, with the help of some of the cars that competed in the famous races plus multimedia and interactive contents. The exhibition opens with the 166 MM Barchetta Touring. With a similar car, Lord Selsdon and Luigi Chinetti triumphed on 26 June 1949, on Ferrari's debut at Le Mans. The British aristocrat and the Milanese driver transplanted to America faced a large number of British and French professionals whose cars had twice the engine capacity of the Ferrari. Nevertheless, they won with an average speed of 132.946 kilometres per hour. Chinetti went down in history by driving for over 23 hours, handing the wheel to Lord Selsdon for just 30 minutes. The exhibition also includes the 275 P in which Jean Guichet and Nino Vaccarella won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 with an astonishing average speed of 195.63 km/h, ahead of two Ferrari 330 Ps. The 275 P is part of the legendary P series, packed with very successful cars: the number refers to the unit displacement, while the letter P stands for prototype. Then, of course, there is the 488 GTE with which Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Daniel Serra won the last edition of the French marathon, gifting Ferrari its 27th class victory, seventy years after the first triumph of the 166 MM.

Longtime Ferraristi are aware of this since they witnessed it frsthand in 1989 and again in 2008-2009, but that institutional memory doesn’t necessarily extend to younger owners who have only seen the values of their cars rise. Until now. Virtually every Ferrari
