Photo: Les Nakashima/Nextimage3D Hello FCA Southwest Region Members, Wow! The Ferrari Club of America’s International Meet that we hosted in Palm Springs was incredible. The Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa’s 18th fairway was the perfect setting for the Concours. Over 125 gorgeous prancing horses were judged in all their glory. The mountains, palm trees and perfectly manicured grass accentuated the beauty of the Ferraris. There were a record number of Platinum winners that moved onto the Coppa Bella Macchina competition. I was so very pleased that several of our members said they were inspired to show their cars because of the message I wrote many months ago encouraging them to do so. The Rallies were also a big hit with the attendees. I had several reports that the routes chosen were some of the prettiest scenic drives ever! The Chuckwalla Valley Raceway was a blast! 2.67 miles of testing your skills of handling your Bella Macchina on 17 turns with elevations and off camber maneuvers.

2 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello FCA Southwest Region Members, “I am a member of “The Ferrari Club of America, Southwest Region.” What does that mean? To me it means I’m a member of the best car club anyone could be a member of. It means I get to meet people who share the same pas - sion I have for my favorite Italian car. It means I have made lasting friends and relationships. It means I get to see cars under normal circumstances I would never see. It means I have ample opportunity to drive my car on the track, with plenty of opportunities to go on scenic drives for the day –the weekend –and sometimes longer that that. It means I get to display my car in numerous concours, and have the opportunity to win trophies and awards. And It means about 25+ more items that I can add to the list. I bet you can even think of more than that. It’s so much more than just a car club, it’s an ability to participate in a life style that we all are so fortunate to have the means to do so. That’s what it is to me. Think about it, see what it means to you. We have a fantastic year of events coming up. By the time you are reading this, the Holiday Party, Kart racing, The Tech Inspection at South Bay Ferrari, The Nethercutt Collection, the Mullin Museum Run, and the Enzo Cruise In event would have passed. ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.

Maranello Motorsport History of the 1962-1964 Ferrari 250 GTO Considered by many to be the best and most beautiful sports car in the world, the Ferrari 250 GTO is also one of the rarest and most desirable. The last front-engined sports racing car that was competitive on the world’s stage, the GTO was billed to the FIA as a “continuation” of the 250 SWB, and its legendary initials stand for “Gran Turismo Omologato”. 100 cars were required for homologated for Grand Touring competition, but only 36 were constructed with an additional three 330 GTOs (the same car with a 4.0-liter V-12), meaning that Ferrari was indeed able to convince the FIA that the GTO was an evolution of the SWB.

  • Pirelli-Ferrari Monza-Press Release
PRESS RELEASE A NEW CHAPTER FOR PIRELLI AND FERRARI: BESPOKE P ZERO RUBBER FOR THE FERRARI MONZA, MARANELLO’S FIRST CAR WITH 21-INCH TYRES AT THE PARIS MOTOR SHOW, THE FERRARI MONZA SP1 AND SP2 WILL SHOWCASE TYRES SPECIFICALLY DEVELOPED TO MATCH THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LIMITED EDITION SPORTS CAR Paris, October 2, 2018 – The traditional collaboration between Pirelli and Ferrari starts another chapter inspired by the open-topped racing cars of the 1950s, brought right up to date with the latest technology from Maranello: the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2. These limited edition cars – highlighting a new “Icon” range – reinterpret the open cars that used to dominate the Mille Miglia and World Sports Car Championship. Pirelli has created a bespoke P Zero for the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2, starting with a precise requirement for the car’s development: 21-inch diameter tyres. This choice has been made for the first time in Ferrari’s history, presenting Pirelli’s engineers with the challenge of offering the usual levels of stiffness, comfort and performance that is synonymous with Ferrari, despite the record size. The front P Zero tyres also have the crucial task of faithfully conveying to the driver what the road is doing via the steering wheel, in order to maximise driving pleasure. Furthermore, the tyres had to play their part in keeping weight to a minimum on the new car. To achieve this, instead of the traditional reinforced textiles, the bead area was redesigned to maintain lateral rigidity while minimising weight: this solution has saved 1.2 kilograms.
