Expression of Language Etiquette in Russian Folktales Ildiko Csajbok-Twerefou, Department of Modern Languages, University of Ghana Yuriy Dzyadyk, Department of Modern Languages, University of Ghana Abstract Using different methods of analysis, this paper examines maxims of language etiquette, such as request, address forms and greetings in selected Russian folktales. Though language etiquette as a segment of politeness has its standards, it is dynamic, so it varies due to political, social, economic or cultural factors. Yet, folktales as a source of customs and beliefs, constitute an integral part of cultural heritage, serve as a means of upbringing, and play an important role in the linguistic development of a person. In Russia, expressions of politeness found in folktales are applied in accordance with the current requirements of Russian society. Keywords: Politeness, folklore, culture, language. Introduction Culture, traditions, language, and folklore are strongly related to each other and vary from nation to nation. Knowing the culture of a society, one may be acquainted with the traditions, language and folklore of that particular society, since culture encompasses all of them. The word folklore can be translated as “knowledge of people”. When referring to folklore in general, one may think about different genres, such as music, dance, tales, arts, crafts, etc. Usually, folklore is characterized by its collectiveness, since it is made on the earlier established traditions and standards of a society, taking into consideration its requirements and perceptions (Keszeg 2008). On the other hand, folklore is a piece of art, which exists not only by means of verbal units, but it often includes gestures, theatrical elements, dancing and singing. -

Karlova* Siberian Federal University 79 Svobodny, Krasnoyarsk, 660041, Russia Received 20.12.2016, received in revised form 22.02.2017, accepted 14.03.2017 The article is devoted to the up-to-date contents of fairy tale as a cultural gadget of the humankind. Clarifying the functions of a fairy story as a carrier for cultural memory and intuitive normative knowledge of the humankind, the author raises the problem of folk ideals in the historical and cultural retrospective reflected in fairy tales, including the age of post-industrial network information society, outlines the framework for the involvement of fairy tale in life design, formulates the hypothesis of the nature of fairy tale indifference to the borderline between life and death. www.bookvica.com SPRING CATALOGUE 2018: Early Soviet Culture. A Selection of Books 1 F O R E W O R D Dear friends and collegues, Bookvica team is happy to present to you the spring catalogue of 2018! Our focus is once again on the life of the USSR in 1920s-1930s when new ideas have found its embodiment in the life of the Soviet man. Most of the books we have gathered for this catalogue are not one the classic checklist of early Soviet books. No works by Mayakovsky or Lissitzky are present and some of them are practically unknown and barely recorded. However this collection is not accidental but the one with a purpose. With some exceptions we tried to look into the lesser researched sides of the life of new Soviet man and the propaganda that was creating her/him. What toys were they playing growing up and what notebooks used to write their lessons in? What shoes did they wear and what parks they attended back in the days? What did they do in a free time? How the factory libraries looked like and what could be written in the factory newspapers? The answers could be found in the books featured in our catalogue this time. As usual we tried to include books that would have the harmonious balance of rarity, interesting content and the design. That’s why you should expect to find the constructivist wrapper on the catalogue of the library equipment or photomontage cover of the second grade notebook. Apart from the experimental sections we did include our standard selection on architecture, art theory (this time focusing on color theory) and science books as well as handmade children’s books on their life in pioneer summer camps. -

The focus is on leadership and female domination pictures. Just as the role of kings and princes, the role of their female hero is defined. There are strong and weak women, but by a special interest in the contribution is the development of the last of the first to power versus strength. Leadership means to deal with one's own person, 'self-rule, then, of rulers'. In fairy tales, we find different styles of leadership and management tools. As properties of the good boss is praised in particular the decision-making and less the organizational skills. -

BALTIC SCREEN MEDIA REVIEW 2016 / VOLUME 4 / ARTICLE Article On the Topics and Style of Soviet Animated Films ÜLO PIKKOV, Estonian Academy of Arts; email: [email protected] 16 DOI: 10.1515/bsmr-2017-0002 BALTIC SCREEN MEDIA REVIEW 2016 / VOLUME 4 / ARTICLE ABSTRACT This article provides a survey of Soviet animation and analyses the thematic and stylistic course of its develop- ment. Soviet animated film emerged and materialised in synch with the fluctuations of the region’s political climate and was directly shaped by it. A number of trends and currents of Soviet animation also pertain to other Eastern European countries. After all, Eastern Europe constituted an integrated cultural space that functioned as a single market for the films produced across it by filmmakers who interacted in a professional regional network of film education, events, festivals, publications etc. Initially experimental, post-revolutionary Russian ani- mation soon fell under the sway of the Socialist Realist discourse, along with the rest of Soviet art, and quickly crystallised as a didactic genre for children. Disney’s para- digm became its major source of inspiration both in terms of visual style and thematic scope, despite the fact that Soviet Union was regarded as the ideological opposite of the Western way of life and mindset. The Soviet animation industry was spread across different studios and republics that adopted slightly varied production practices and tolerated different degrees of artistic freedom. Studios in the smaller republics, such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in particular, stood out for making films that were more ideologically complicated than those produced in Moscow. -

The barrier of cultures becomes obvious only when the native culture collides (or compares) with others different from it. That is why we considered it necessary to research and compare different types of cultures, namely, their representatives are tales, since they are familiar to us from childhood and which reflect the soul of the people. In our research, we decided to consider folklore texts A.N. Afanas`eva [2014], N.E. Onchukova [2017] and other authors. Methodological and theoretic base of research compose fundamental studies for theory of text and folklore (A.N. Veselovsky [1939], V.I. Gusev [1995], I.I. Kravcov [1977], E.V. Pomeranceva [1975] etc). Main method is comparative analysis folkloristic texts. As a result of our research, we came to the conclusion that the religious, cultural and other preconceptions of nations are not a barrier for appreciation of the different cultures. Russian, English, Korean cultural mentality are different, but have common features. All tales connect advocacy of positive humanity, exposure of the evil, acculturate. We consider general national aspect in every tale, in particular educe national specific of folklore, and conclude that it has similar didactic tasks and there is cultural historical value for every nations, because this form of folklore factor influenced the cultural and social progress. -
