INTRODUCTION and WELCOME Dear friends, Welcome to the 43rd edition of the RallyRACC-Catalunya COSTA DAURADA! It’s been longer than usual since the 2006 edition due to the reorganization of the FIA World Championship Calendar. We have moved from spring to autumn. But there are actually no major changes to highlight, apart from the change of dates. The route has only been slightly modified, as you will be able to see in the comparison we have included in this Guide. All our last year's sponsors are also supporting us this year: Telefónica Movistar, our main sponsor, and Würth, as co-sponsor, the city of Salou and the Costa Daurada, as well as the Tarragona Chamber of Commerce and PortAventura. The podium will be located in Salou to host the official start of the rally on Thursday 4th October from 19.30h, the finish and the prize giving on Sunday 6th October. The PortAventura theme park will be the venue of the Service Park after Leg 1 and 2 and the Rally Village. The Rally HQ, including Race Direction, Media Room and Secretariat will be located in the Hotel PortAventura. As every year, the whole team of the organization is at your disposal to assist you in anything you should need to prepare your participation. Once again, on behalf of my entire team, welcome to the 43 edition of the RallyRACC-Catalunya COSTA DAURADA. See you in October and with our best wishes for a successful event! In 1916, the RACC promoted the first Volta Catalunya, the forerunner of the Rally Catalunya, which would appear in 1957. In 1965, and for nine years, it was replaced by the Rally Barcelona-Andorra. In 1988 the two most important rallies in the country which score for the European Championship, the Rally Catalunya and the Rally Costa Brava, came together with a view to becoming a rally that would score for the World Championship. Finally, in 1991, the FIA included the Rally Catalunya-Costa Brava in the World Championship Calendar. The high organisation and sports level the event has achieved is reflected by the two prizes obtained in 1996 and 1997, when it was elected the Best Rally of the Year by the World Rally Team Association (WRTA), and was also considered the Best Event of the World Championship by the World Rally Press Association (WRPA) in 1997. In 2005 the rally changes its nerve centre and moves to the Costa Daurada. Stages already used in previous editions of the rally are recovered from the years when one leg of the rally was staged on the roads of Tarragona. Salou and PortAventura will host the HQ and the Rally Service Park. Five months later, in march 2006, the rally was celebrated again, moved from October to March. Do to FIA calendar reasons, edition 2007 moves again to Autumn. 2.4 Previous winners I 1957 Sebastián Salvadó - «MILANO» Alfa Romeo 1975 II 1958 Luciano Eliakin - Augusto Lluch Saab 93 III 1959 Alex Soler-Roig - Manuel Romagosa Porsche IV 1960 Max Hohenlohe - Augusto Lluch BMW 700 V 1961 Joan Fernández - Ramon Grifoll BMW 700 VI 1962 «CLERY» - «CALA» BMW 700 VII 1963 Jorge Palau-Ribes - Jorge Palou Fiat Abarth 850 VIII 1964 Jaume Juncosa - Salvador Cañellas Fiat Abarth 1000 IX 1973 Salvador Cañellas - Daniel Ferrater Seat 1430 / 1800 X 1974 Marc Etchebers - Marie Christine Etchebers Porsche Carrera XI 1975 Antonio Zanini - Eduardo Martínez Seat 1430 / 1800 XII 1976 Jorge de Bagration - Manuel Barbeito Lancia Stratos XIII 1977 Antonio Zanini - Juan José Petisco Seat 124 / 1800 XIV 1978 Antonio Zanini - Juan José Petisco Fiat 131 Abarth XV 1979 Beni Fernández - José Luis Sala Fiat 131 Abarth XVI 1980 Antonio Zanini - Jordi Sabater Porsche 911 SC XVII 1981 Eugenio Ortiz - Guillermo Barreras Renault 5 Turbo XVIII 1982 Antonio Zanini - Víctor Sabater Talbot Sunbeam Lotus XIX 1983 Andártico Vudafieri - Tiziano Siviero Lancia Rallye XX 1984 Salvador Servià - Jordi Sabater Opel Manta 400 6 43 RallyRACC Catalunya COSTA DAURADA – Rally de España 2007 Rally Guide 1 XXI 1985 Fabrizio Tabaton - Luciano Tedeschini Lancia Rallye XXII 1986 Fabrizio Tabaton - Luciano Tedeschini Lancia Delta S4 XXIII 1987 Dario Cerrato - Giuseppe Cerri Lancia Delta HFAWD XXIV 1988 Bruno Saby - Jean François Fauchille Lancia Delta 4 WD XXV 1989 Yves Loubet - Jean-Marc Andrié Lancia Delta Integrale XXVI 1990 Dario Cerrato - Giuseppe Cerri Lancia Delta Integrale XXVII 1991 Armin Schwarz - Arne Hertz Toyota Celica GT4 XXVIII 1992 Carlos Sainz - Luis Moya Toyota Celica T 4WD XXIX 1993 François Delecour - Daniel Grataloup Ford Escort Cosworth 4x4 XXX 1994 Enrico Bertone - Max Chiapponi Toyota Celica T4WD XXXI 1995 Carlos Sainz - Luis Moya Subaru Impreza 555 XXXII 1996 Colin McRae - Derek Ringer Subaru Impreza 555 XXXIII 1997 Tommi Makinen - Seppo Harjanne Mitsubishi Lancer Evo4 XXXIV 1998 Didier Auriol - Denis Giraudet Toyota Corolla WRC XXXV 1999 Philippe Bugalski - Jean Paul Chiaroni Citroën Xsara Kit Car XXXVI 2000 Colin McRae - Nicky Grist Ford Focus WRC XXXVII 2001 Didier Auriol - Denis Giraudet Peugeot 206 WRC XXXVIII 2002 Gilles Panizzi – Hervé Panizzi Peugeot 206 WRC XXXIX 2003 Gilles Panizzi – Hervé Panizzi Peugeot 206 WRC XL 2004 Markko Martin – Michael Park Ford Focus RS WRC04 XLI 2005 Sébastien Loeb – Daniel Elena Citroën Xsara XLII 2006 Sébastien Loeb – Daniel Elena Citroën Xsara 7 43 RallyRACC Catalunya COSTA DAURADA – Rally de España 2007 Rally Guide 1 3. Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Spain Volkswagen are World Champions* – manufacturers’ title following one-two victory in Spain Wolfsburg (27 October 2013). Part two of the World Champions’ story: Volkswagen has won the manufacturers’ title in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) with an outstanding one-two victory at the Rally Spain. That means all the WRC titles* for 2013 will go to the car maker from Wolfsburg. Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ crown three weeks ago at the Rally France. The French duo went on to score an impressive win – their eighth this season – ahead of their team-mates Jari- Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) at the “Rally de España”. As a result, Volkswagen has an unassailable lead in the Manufacturers’ Championship with one round still to go this season. Winning three titles in its debut year with the Polo R WRC is Volkswagen’s greatest motorsport achievement to date. Title wins that will go down in history – Volkswagen’s debut Volkswagen’s achievements in the 2013 WRC season are unparalleled. The German team clinched all of the titles in the top category of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) in its debut year – the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ Championship and the manufacturers’ trophy. No other manufacturer has managed to win a World Championship in its first year since the World Rally Championship began. Even in the history of Formula 1, no car maker has yet taken the title in its opening season through their own efforts. Volkswagen’s performance has exceeded all expectations.

Volume 2, Issue 4 May 2010 The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue Contents Race control Clinical review Recent race results Worldwide motorsport update Caught by the cameras Race control Welcome to the May edition of the ASMMR newsletter. The various racing categories are moving on a pace and there is plenty to talk about in the world of motorsport medicine and rescue. This issue takes a look at some track safety devices; namely the run-off areas and gravel traps – the pros, the cons and the downright scary. There is a review of recent race events and a few highlights from other aspects of motorsporting news. If you have ever wanted to know what a tank slapper, a lambda reading or reactive suspension was, then skip to the Wikipedia motorsports terminology link. Good luck. Matthew Mac Partlin Technical review Track safety devices – Run-offs and gravel traps Competitors and race vehicles can be fully prepared with safety equipment, but at some point or other a vehicle will unintentionally veer off the track. Sometimes the driver will be able to gather it up and rejoin the race, if there is sufficient space to do so. However, there is often a conflict between race track safety, spectator friendliness and geography. The safest track would probably be a straight road, with a wide run-off to either side and at either end and have no more Copyright Matthew Mac Partlin, 2010 Page 1 of 9 than a couple of cars competing on it at any one time. But it wouldn’t be terribly interesting to compete in or to watch.

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Finland The king of the forests: Sébastien Ogier wins for Volkswagen in Finland Wolfsburg (3 August 2013). Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed their fifth win of the season with Volkswagen in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) – and took a big step towards the World Championship title in the process. 180 km/h through the Finnish forests, jumps of up to 60 metres in length, and all between the ubiquitous trees: the WRC put on a thrilling show for hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic fans in Finland, who saw the overall lead constantly change hands on the first two days of the rally. A sixth triumph for the Polo R WRC in only its eighth rally outing saw Ogier and Ingrassia extend their lead in both the driver and co-driver standings to 90 points. Volkswagen also increased its advantage in the Manufacturers’ Championship. Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) finished 17th in the Polo R WRC and contributed six points to the total. Their team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/FIN) ended their home rally in tenth place, earning them one World Championship point. King at the rally of all rallies – Ogier fulfils his dream of winning in Finland The Rally Finland has been taking place since 1951, and Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia this year became only the fifth duo from outside of Scandinavia and Finland to win the rally. 2013 marked the eleventh time that a non-Nordic driver had won this iconic event in the World Rally Championship: in 1990 it was current Volkswagen Motorsport consultant Carlos Sainz (E) and his co-driver Luis Moya who broke the stranglehold of the Finn’s and Swedes for the first time.
