Founded by Dave Gavitt in 1979, the BIG EAST reorganized in 2013, entering a new era by returning to its basketball-focused heritage. The BIG EAST continues to differentiate itself as one of the nation’s elite basketball conferences, sending each of its ten teams to a postseason tournament in 2019, including four to the ncaa tournament. In 2020, the University of Connecticut will rejoin the BIG EAST as the Conference’s 11th team. The conference's broadcasting contract with FOX Sports continues to provide maximum exposure for both organizations, as the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament delivered the highest conference tournament ratings for FOX Sports. During the 2018-19 season, every BIG EAST Conference Men’s Basketball game was broadcast on the FOX Sports family of networks which includes FOX Sports 1 and 2, as well as its digital streaming service, FOX Sports Go. FOX Sports College Basketball announcers Gus Johnson and Bill Raftery with BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman Men’s Head Coach Dave Leitao In 2019-20, Head Coach Dave Leitao is returning an exciting blend of new and returning players. DePaul will be led by Juniors Paul Reed, Devin Gage, and Jaylen Butz, all of whom delivered significant contributions to the team this past season. They will be supported by guards Flynn Cameron, Lyrik Shreiner, and starter Jalen Coleman-Lands, who will be returning to the lineup after a season-ending injury last year. Joining them will be the #25 recruiting class in the country comprised of Romeo Weems, winner of Michigan’s 2019 Mr. Basketball award and the 42nd ranked recruit in the country, Markese Jacobs, ranked #84 and viewed by many analysts as the Chicago-area’s best player, and all-around guard Oscar Lopez. The Blue Demons will also have three very talented transfer students joining the team: Carte’Are Gordon from St. Louis University, and Darious Hall from Arkansas University, who will both be eligible to play in 2019-20, and highly talented Charlie Moore from Kansas University, who may also be eligible to play next season. During his first stint as DePaul’s Head Coach (2002-05), Leitao led the Blue Demons to three consecutive post- season appearances and recruited three future NBA draft picks: Wilson Chandler, Sammy Meija and Dorell Wright.
