Report on the Continuation of the Invertebrate Survey from End of February to the End of September 2015 Pinkham Way: Report on the continuation of the invertebrate survey from end of February to the end of September 2015. By Edward Milner 1. Results The trapping described in the Preliminary Report was continued from the end of February 2015 until the end of September 2015. A further 11 (possibly 12) species of spider were added, making a current list of 86 spp. A total of 14 new species of beetle were recorded, and all the beetle records (79 spp.) from the earlier (Ove Arup) survey were added to the database. In total this resulted in a list of 243 spp. of beetle recorded from the site. Lists of the two groups are included below in the Appendices. In the Preliminary Report it was suggested that it might take five years trapping (plus sweepnetting, which has not been permitted) to reach 100 spp. of spider but this limited extension has shown that such a list might be produced much sooner than that. Beetles Of the newly recorded species (in heavy type in the species list)most were common and widespread in the London area. The only one of note was Kissophagus hederae(Scolytidae)Nationally Notable B, a scarce bark beetle which is known to visit ivy flowers for nectar. It is scarce in the London area. Among the beetles recorded during the Ove Arup survey 12 were species not recorded by the author at other sites in the London area, and at least 10 further species appear to be scarce in the whole London area; the conclusion that should have been drawn was that in the London context this is an unusually rich site for beetles. Spiders The newly recorded spiders (in heavy type in the list) are all fairly common species mostly known from at least 20 sites in London and Middlesex. Pseudoscorpion During the Ove Arup survey a pseudoscorpion Chthonius tetrachelatus was recorded. This is a scarce species only known from two other sites in north London. Conclusion and recommendations The newly recorded species do not throw additional light on the conservation value of the site except to confirm the earlier conclusion that the site is of considerable conservation value both in the local context within Haringey, and in the wider London context. 1 It is strongly recommended that the site be protected, and that the invasive alien plants in particular Russian Comfrey and Goat’s Rue be removed from the site as far as possible. Current stewardship by the North London Waste Authority does not appear to be addressing this issue. At a future date further pitfall-trapping and, ideally, regular summer sweepnetting should be done across the site, including the south-facing railway bank. It must be assumed that there are numerous species of beetle and spider (and possibly pseudoscorpion) present on the site that are yet to be recorded. JEDM 5/10/2015 2 2. Appendices Appendix 1. E-mail: [email protected] Abstract. Faunal data on four species of the genus Neocrepidodera Heikertinger, 1911 and on five spe- cies of the genus Crepidodera Chevrolat, 1836 are presented. A total of 806 specimens of these genera have been processed. The bibliographic information on these flea beetle genera in Latvia is summarised for the first time. One species, Crepidodera lamina (Bedel, 1901), is deleted from the list of Latvian Coleoptera. The annotated list of Latvian species is given, including five species of Neocrepidodera Heikertinger, 1911 and five species of Crepidodera Chevrolat, 1836. The garden, of about 850 sq meters, including also a small pond, is close to a house on the outskirts of a village in Romagna lowland. Despite several negative factors due to the human presence, the biodiversity is surprisingly rich. The list includes 566 species of insects, 262 belonging to the Order Lepidoptera, 187 to Coleoptera and 117 to other Orders. These species only represent material identified at least at Genus level, but the collected material includes also many insects not identified at such level, that do not appear on the list. Furthermore many species probably escaped the research because they were neither manually collected nor attracted by light-traps. So it is deemed that the actual over-all insect biodiversity of the garden includes at least some hundreds more additional species. No previous records from Romagna were known of the tortricid Cochylis millierana Peyerimhoff = sannitica Trematerra, and the zopherid Synchita mediolanensis A. & G.B. Villa . The caddis-fly Hydropsyche guttata Pictet is recorded for the first time south of the Po river. The dermestid beetle Paranovelsis aequalis Sharp is new to Italy.     Bugs and Beasties of the Western Rhodopes (a photoguide to some lesser-known species) by Chris Gibson and Judith Poyser [email protected] Yagodina At Honeyguide, we aim to help you experience the full range of wildlife in the places we visit. Generally we start with birds, flowers and butterflies, but we don’t ignore 'other invertebrates'. In the western Rhodopes they are just so abundant and diverse that they are one of the abiding features of the area. While simply experiencing this diversity is sufficient for some, as naturalists many of us want to know more, and in particular to be able to give names to what we see. Therein lies the problem: especially in eastern Europe, there are few books covering the invertebrates in any comprehensive way. Hence this photoguide – while in no way can this be considered an ‘eastern Chinery’, it at least provides a taster of the rich invertebrate fauna you may encounter, based on a couple of Honeyguide holidays we have led in the western Rhodopes during June. We stayed most of the time in a tight area around Yagodina, and almost anything we saw could reasonably be expected to be seen almost anywhere around there in the right habitat. Most of the photos were taken in 2014, with a few additional ones from 2012. While these creatures have found their way into the lists of the holiday reports, relatively few have been accompanied by photos. We have attempted to name the species depicted, using the available books and the vast resources of the internet, but in many cases it has not been possible to be definitive and the identifications should be treated as a ‘best fit’.

Sou časná zem ědělská politika Evropské unie podporuje opat ření na zvýšení biodiverzity a heterogenity agroekosystém ů. Cílem této práce bylo reáln ě zhodnotit smysluplnost dvou agroenvironmentálních opat ření (úhoru a chemicky neošet řeného pásu plodiny) na st řevlíkovité brouky v polích. Výzkum probíhal b ěhem let 2009 – 2011 na polích na Znojemsku, Královéhradecku a Vyškovsku. Pomocí padacích zemních pastí umíst ěných ve čty řech liniích v různých vzdálenostech od opat ření bylo celkov ě uloveno 58 805 jedinc ů st řevlíkovitých v 99 druzích. Druhová bohatost a po četnost spole čenstva byla nejvyšší v opatření (bez ohledu na typ) a klesala sm ěrem do pole.

Na území sekundárních bezlesí podhorských luk a pastvin byl hodnocen vliv zem dlského hospoda ení na brouky a další bezobratlé. Studium vlivu lyža ského areálu prokázalo, že p estože jsou sjezdové trat v alpínské zón zájmového území provozovány zp sobem šetrným k vegetaci, tak pr kazn m ní pvodní spole enstva epigeických brouk .
