To study the socio-system of whole Kirat people of Nepal is very much vague content area by nature. So, introduction, history and demography of Kirat people of Nepal is comprised wholly, then, the study is narrowed down to only Kirat-Limbu. Focusing to Kirat-Limbu, this study deals the family structure, family system along with social concept and practice including birth to death rite and rituals, food habits, provisions of social system in Mundhum. This study also tries to indicate contrastive areas between social system of Mundhum and family laws of Nepal, drawing the conclusion. Keywords : Kirat; Nepal; Limbu; Mundhum. The Abolition of Monarchy and Constitution Making in Nepal
THE KING VERSUS THE PEOPLE(BHANDARI) Article THE KING VERSUS THE PEOPLE: THE ABOLITION OF MONARCHY AND CONSTITUTION MAKING IN NEPAL Surendra BHANDARI Abstract The abolition of the institution of monarchy on May 28, 2008 marks a turning point in the political and constitutional history of Nepal. This saga of constitutional development exemplifies the systemic conflict between people’s’ aspirations for democracy and kings’ ambitions for unlimited power. With the abolition of the monarchy, the process of making a new constitution for the Republic of Nepal has started under the auspices of the Constituent Assembly of Nepal. This paper primarily examines the reasons or causes behind the abolition of monarchy in Nepal. It analyzes the three main reasons for the abolition of monarchy. First, it argues that frequent slights and attacks to constitutionalism by the Nepalese kings had brought the institution of the monarchy to its end. The continuous failures of the early democratic government and the Supreme Court of Nepal in bringing the monarchy within the constitutional framework emphatically weakened the fledgling democracy, but these failures eventually became fatal to the monarchical institution itself. Second, it analyzes the indirect but crucial role of India in the abolition of monarchy. Third, it explains the ten-year-long Maoist insurgency and how the people’s movement culminated with its final blow to the monarchy. Furthermore, this paper also analyzes why the peace and constitution writing process has yet to take concrete shape or make significant process, despite the abolition of the monarchy. Finally, it concludes by recapitulating the main arguments of the paper. -

130| Gaurab KC & Pranab Kharel DJSA (2017) 11, 130–150 DOI:http://dx.doi.org/11.3126/dsaj.v11i0.18827 The Dynamics of Representing Nepal’s Struggle for Modernization: from Nepalization to Fatalism Gaurab KC and Pranab Kharel Abstract This article examines the popular as well as controversial work Fatalism and Development: Nepal’s Struggle for Modernization (1991) by anthropologist Dor Bahadur Bista. The authors historically chart out and evaluate the writing trajectory of Bista. The paper focuses on Bista’s consistent pitching for fatalism to be the root cause of underdevelopment in Nepali society starting with his writings in the 1960s, even though he may be using different terms to refer to the process. He pointed out certain groups close to the power structures including priestly Brahamins to be responsible for the underdevelopment and fatalism. His iconoclastic stance on the value system revolving around the power centers found many takers in the changed context of Nepal after 1990. This was furthered by his silence on the similar acts of other cultural groups. The objective of the study is to explore the understanding of religious leaders on secularism and their idea of religious rights. Based on interviews with these leaders (Islam, Hindu and Christian), the thesis describes how their understanding of secularism contrasted in daily life. Based on primary and secondary information, the study further deals about how religious tensions are evolving among different religious groups. Furthermore, it helps to understand how Nepalis secularism differs from western modal of secularism and explains different reasons why the ideal definition of secularism (separation of church and the state) could not be practical one in Nepalese society. The hope of religious equality beaten when the constitution barred to religious conversion. Though conversion is not allowed, different Christian organizations are conducting missionary activities. Consequently, police actions are increased against Christians on the charge of conversion. Christians are raising voice against state interference in religion. They are demanding conversion right if the state is secular. Secularism has been interpreted as a right to convert people, other features of secularism has become minor. -

In the interval many important books dealing with Hinduism and Buddhism have appeared, but having been resident in the Far East (with one brief exception) since 1912 I have found it exceedingly difficult to keep in touch with recent literature. Much of it has reached me only in the last few months and I have often been compelled to notice new facts and views in footnotes only, though I should have wished to modify the text. Besides living for some time in the Far East, I have paid many visits to India, some of which were of considerable length, and have travelled in all the countries of which I treat except Tibet. I have however seen something of Lamaism near Darjeeling, in northern China and in Mongolia. But though I have in several places described the beliefs and practices prevalent at the present day, my object is to trace the history and development of religion in India and elsewhere with occasional remarks on its latest phases. I have not attempted to give a general account of contemporary religious thought in India or China and still less to forecast the possible result of present tendencies. -
