Diwali, the festival of lights, originated as a harvest festival that marked the last harvest of the year. Indians celebrate with family gatherings, glittering clay lamps, festive fireworks, strings of electric lights and sharing of sweets. It reminds us of the festive season of joy, splendor, enthusiasm and happiness. To celebrate this optimistic change within, people decorate their homes in a colorful manner. James Creek too with a vision of bringing the diaspora together, celebrating Indian culture and traditions, as well as coming together to give back to the community that has enriched our lives. We are a group of James Creek residents hailing from India or are of Indian descent. As Indians living in the United States, we want our children to experience our rich cultural heritage. This group has been formed to celebrate our arts, folklore, festivals, and traditions together as a community. With this aim in mind our community gathered on November 11th at Sexton Community Hall with an estimated attendance over 300 people to celebrate Diwali.

Our celebration showcased performances by our very own community children and adults. If you were in the midst, you could feel the excitement and anticipation in the air as months of effort from 2018 James Creek our Diwali organizer, adult and kids’ Board Members coordinators, volunteers, decor team, food team, performance choreographers and Suresh Inakoolu performers culminated today. The event President was scheduled from 12 – 4 pm. About an [email protected] hour prior to the event, we had the food, Sanjay Tiwari decoration and logistics team with their Vice President large group of volunteers arrive to setup [email protected] everything required within the centre. The Teresa Pagani next hour was a swarm of activity with all Secretary volunteers–little kids, middle schoolers, adults all working next to each other on the final touches. Our [email protected] guests started arriving at 12:30 pm and were warmly welcomed at the entrance by the reception team Richard Heenan ensuring that each family were given a Raffle ticket. We had a live DJ to entertain all guests to some Treasurer foot tapping music and a photo booth to create memories with lots of pictures clicked. Then there was a [email protected] plethora of performances that stole the hearts of one and all in the audience as we watched them dance Lawrence Davis their way through the journey of love over decades unfolding in front of our eyes. I can assure you, you’ll see desired results. As you choose healthier foods, choose to add exercise in your routine. It’s great to lose the weight you want, but it’s even better when you are stronger. So, let’s lose the fat mass you don’t want for the muscle mass you do want! Pumpkin Soup Recipe

Pumpkin comes to mind in this fall season. So here’s one you can enjoy…this is delicious and healthy!
