No Park harvesting is to occur in the NP buffer zones on the National Park side of French’s Creek Road and Middle Ridge Road. Harvesting crew is to ensure that no logging debris falls into the NP. SMZ / FMZ FMZ 2 – Special Management - includes HCVOG & Rainforest FMZ 3A – Harvesting Exclusion – Rainforest & Biriwal National Park buffer FMZ 3B - Visual Protection – areas adjoining Knodingbul Road & Blue Knob Forest Road are to be treated as FMZ 4 for silvicultural purposes and are displayed as FMZ 4. FMZ 4 - General Management – available for harvest. FMZ 5 – Hardwood plantation – not authorised – not to be harvested Research There is a Permanent Growth Plot within these compartments. HC to engage local Tactical planner prior to harvesting in this area to facilitate plot data collection. Cultural Heritage Surveys have been conducted. If any potential heritage sites are identified they should be recorded on FCMapApp, and the ACHO notified immediately. A 20m interim buffer must be observed pending further investigation. There are no known sites of European heritage within these compartments. Modified Harvest Areas A modified harvest area has been located within this planning unit. A 10m total harvest exclusion applies; existing trails and roads can be used for haulage if they traverse through these exclusions. HC to check that these sites are adequately marked immediately prior to harvesting commencing in the vicinity. 3. Infrastructure Infrastructure Conditions Utilities Underground Nil Transmission lines Nil Gravel Pits Blue Knob Road – as per Quarry Management Plan 7. Harvesting Conditions The harvesting objectives in this operation is to harvest the endpoint and defective stems and set the stand up for a combined plantation and native forest harvest in 15 – 20 years when sawlog potential and economic viability is maximized. These compartments contain areas of plantation that are unauthorized. It is recommended that these areas are Authorised prior to future thinning/harvesting operations. The compartments also contain large areas of regrowth native forest that has not reached its economic potential. Small isolated stands of good HQ do exist within these compartments, although these are generally located adjacent to drainage lines and require snigging through these pre-merch areas. Silviculture Type Harvesting Objectives and Condition for each stand condition Heavy STS In stands dominated by commercial endpoint 47b Blue Gum (SBG) Tallowwood (TWD), and small areas of type 53 Brush Box (BBX) mainly along drainage lines, the Mixed-age moist objective is to implement a regeneration harvesting treatment to establish a new, mixed species vigorous stand. forest types, mainly Blue Gum, Forest technician to mark for retention well-formed seed trees of preferred Tallowwood and species at ~40 m spacing. H trees with well-formed crowns and at required Brushbox. spacing may be used as seed trees. Generally adjacent Crews to remove all merchantable stems not marked for retention and ensure to drainage lines mechanical disturbance creates a suitable seed bed for regeneration especially in areas of viney scrub associated with the mesic understorey. Light/Medium STS In the 60/62 forest types (Grey Gum, Grey Ironbark and Red/White Mahogany) the objective is to harvest the merchantable component of the mature aged crop Mixed-age dry and retain the vigorous younger age class trees for a future cut. hardwood species forest types, Forest technician to mark growers (potential saw-logs, poles) for retention. mainly Grey Gum, Grey Ironbark & White Mahogany. Generally mid slope & ridge tops Document title: C_90_94_95_96_Bulga_Harvest_Plan_Printed_Signat Version No.: 1 Page 4 of 13 ures Harvest Plan no.: 60850 Approval Date: 24/10/2018 Expiry Date: 10-2-2026 Warning: a printed copy of this document may be uncontrolled. Please verify this is the latest version prior to use. Light STS All compartments have areas of pre-merchantable (<45cm DBH) regrowth stands and these areas in conjunction with the plantation are the basis of a future cut in Pre-merchantable 15-20 years stands – All species Forest technician to mark growers (potential saw-logs, poles) for retention. Generally mid slope & ridge tops Crew in consultation with the HC to retain clumps of pre-merchantable regrowth and advanced regeneration and avoid damage to these retained areas using directional falling techniques. Note. Do not confuse pre-merchantable regrowth with suppressed and defective stems that are sub-optimal to stand improvement. Future Treatment These areas within the compartment are not viable now and are to be retained for Area future harvesting treatments and to contribute to the management of IFOA basal area limits for this harvesting event.
