PRESIDENT The Victorian Football League announced recently that Sir Maurice Nathan K.B.E. was elected President of the V.F.L. The N.S.W. League Preside.nt, Mr. Bill Hart wrote on behalf of N.S.W. to congratulate Sir -Maurice on his election. Sir Maurice Nathan, a keen sportsman and Carlton supporter of many years standing succeeded the late Sir Kenneth Luke. In accepting office Sir Maurice paid tribute to his predecessors and said that he would strive to carry on their work. GRAND FINAL PROSPECTS This week end there will be a "mini" grand final on Sunday. The supporters of East Sydney and North Shore are confident that after Easts beat Wests a fort- night ago and Norths polished off St. George last week that an Easts versus Norths final is a strong possibility in the Sydney First Grade Competition. These two teams meet at Trumper Oval on Sunday and the winner will emerge firm favourite for the 1971 pennant. Both teams are very evenly matched and drive from the centre could make the difference. Both rucks are first class, with Norths new- player Ken Mathews possibly giving the Bears a slight edge. East rovers might be slightly ahead and the clash of the two champion centremen Brian Tyler of Easts and Roy Klau of North Shore will with the giant nick duels decide who gets the drive from the centre. With both teams at full strength a most thrilling game will be seen with the result in doubt until the final bell. S.D.A. FIRST SEMI FINAL - This Saturday the first semi final of1±he Sydney Districts Association competition will be played at Trumper Oval at 2.30 p.m. Penshurst who finished third in the competition will meet East Sydney who scraped into 4th place by a small percentage over North Shore. This competition now in its second year has been indeed a most successful one and a talent nursery for Senior Clubs. Mr. W. H. Hart, President of the N.S.W. League this week congratulated all clubs that participated in the S.D.A. competition this year. "They certainly kept up the high standard set last season," he said, "and the League can look forward to a strong S.D.A. competition in the future." S.D.A.
