Transcending Cover Bastian Wolber at work Transcending Trade Portfolio Terroir April 2021 Our Story — Our Story A New Old World In 2014, Newcomer Wines emerged as an unconventional wine importer specialising in ‘The New Old World’, sourcing wines from Austria that lie close to our hearts. Since then, we have ventured to other countries that culturally and historically share deep common grounds. Whether borrowing from or rewriting tradition, our growers share a common purpose — to make wines that are an honest reflection of the place and the people that make them, leaving as little imprint and re- establishing bio-diversity on the natural world — as they go. In 2018, we partnered with Jimmy from Kiffe My Wines, who shares the same ethos and passion as us, with a speciality in French wines. Speaking about ’The New Old World’, this expression does not only mean looking off the beaten paths of Europe — it also means going beyond the topic of wine — connecting our growers with an audience and colleagues who they usually wouldn’t have the chance to meet in their local communities. Given the recent circumstances and restrictions that we all faced in 2020 with regards to travels around the world, we initiated a virtual forum called In—House — a unique, global platform for exchange between some of the deepest thinkers and pioneers of the natural wine world, hospitality and agriculture. These inspiring conversations unfolded on topics such as The Art of Balance and Back to Basics, and we concluded the series in December 2020 with a brilliant chat with Sebastien Riffault, Aris Blancardi and Karl Schnabel. These are still available online via our website, and we’d encourage you to explore them as there is a wealth of knowledge available. Cheers, Peter & Jimmy on behalf of the team 2 2 Inspiration Quote — Inspiration ‘When I work with other producers and friends in their cellars, I like the idea of experimenting with some of their fruit and making my own wines from them too. I like the sharing of ideas and learning like this.’ — Bastian Wolber 3 Inspiration Quote — Grower focus: Bastian Wolber Bastian Wolber joins the portfolio as an exciting new addition, focusing on small parcels of vines spread out across Haut-Savoie, Alsace and Baden. When we spoke to him, we joked that he must do a lot of driving around harvest time, and he just laughed and agreed. Clearly the excitement of producing wines that transcend appellation and countries supersedes the intense manhours required to pull off a project of this nature. And we salute those efforts. This is the first vintage of Bastian’s wines that he has produced, and the first time they are showing in the U.K. From a complex, white field blend cuvee, using old vine Riesling as the base, to a light and lifted Gewürztraminer (from Alsace) and Spätburgunder (from Baden) co- ferment, these wines are bound to ignite intrigue. 4 Grower Index 1 — Click and explore the growers Our Growers Austria Czech Republic Burgenland Moravia Markus Altenburger 10 Milan Nestarec 51 Nittnaus 12 Claus Preisinger 14 Rennersistas 16 France Hannes Schuster 18 Christian Tschida 20 Alsace Christoph Wachter-Wiesler 22 Michael Wenzel 24 Domaine Rieffel 54 Kamptal & Wagram Beaujolais Alwin & Stefanie Jurtschitsch 26 Pierre Cotton 56 Clemens & Lukas Strobl 28 Burgundy Kremstal & Wachau NEW Raphaelle Guyot 58 Christoph Hoch 30 Domaine des Rouges Queues 60 Martin Muthenthaler 32 Lesehof Stagård 34 Champagne Styria Émilien Feneuil 62 Christoph Neumeister 36 Aurelien Lurquin 64 NEW Karl & Eva Schnabel 38 Flavien Nowack 66 Franz & Christine Strohmeier 40 Thomas Perseval 68 Alice & Roland Tauss 42 Timothée Stroebel 70 Werlitsch — Ewald Tscheppe 44 Jura Vienna & Weinviertel Valentin Morel 72 Jutta Ambrositsch 46 Michael Gindl 48 Languedoc Domaine Inebriati — Victor Beau 74 Olivier Cohen 76 NEW Domaine Mada 78 5 Grower Index 2 — Click and explore the growers Our Growers Loire Germany Pierre Ménard 80 NEW Alexandre Giquel 82 Baden Sébastien Riffault 84 Sylvain Dittière 86 Enderle & Moll 115 Wasenhaus — Alexander Götze & Jacques Antoine Toublanc 88 117 Christoph Wolber Les Jardins de Theseiis 90 NEW Bastian Wolber 119 Württemberg Rhône Roterfaden — Olympia Samara & 121 Thomas Finot 92 Hannes Hoffmann Les Frères Soulier 94 Valentin Valles 96 Mosel Thorsten Melsheimer 123 Rita & Rudolf Trossen 125 Roussillon Matassa — Pfalz 98 Tom Lubbe Odinstal 127 Domaine de Majas 100 Les Arabesques — 102 Saskia van der Horst Hungary Savoie & Isere Sopron Ça Boit Libre — 104 Damien Bastian Goddard Franz Weninger 130 NEW Corentin Houillon 106 Marie & Florian Curtet 108 Tokaj Cellier de la Baraterie — 110 Julien Viana Attila Homonna 132 Domaine de Chevillard — 112 Mathieu Goury 6 Grower Index 3 — Click and explore the growers Our Growers Italy Switzerland Alto Adige Gruyère & Thurgau Pranzegg — Martin Gojer 135 Cidrerie du Vulcain 149 Friuli Venezia Giulia Klettgau Markus Ruch 151 NEW Alexis Paraschos 137 Obstmosterei Oswald + Ruch 153 NEW Paolo Vodopivec 139 Liguria Valais Mythopia — Hans-Peter Schmidt 155 Selvadolce — 141 NEW Domaine de Chérouche 157 Aris Blancardi Slovenia Special Formats Kras Magnums & Key Kegs 159 Beers, Spirits & Juice 163 NEW Vina Čotar 144 Stajerska NEW Radovan Šuman 146 Glassware Gabriel Glassware 164 Other Delivery Information 165 Terms & Conditions 166 Contact Us 167 7 Legend — Legend Colours ⬤ Sparkling ⬤ White ⬤ Orange, Skin-Contact ⬤ Rosé ⬤ Light Red ⬤ Dark Red ⬤ Sweet ⬤ Beer, Cider ⬤ Other 8 AUSTRIA INDEX Austria 9 Markus Altenburger — INDEX Austria, Burgenland Markus Altenburger ’Our fields look different to neatly trimmed and properly cut vineyards you might know from fancy advertisements. COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES Brussels, 24.6.2003 COM (2003) 377 final 2003/0140 (ACC) Proposal for a COUNCIL DECISION on the conclusion of an agreement between the European Community and Canada on trade in wines and spirit drinks (presented by the Commission) EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM 1. This agreement between Canada and the European Community is the result of bilateral negotiations which took place from 7 November 2001 to 24 April 2003 on the basis of a negotiating mandate adopted by the Council on 1 August 2001 (Doc. 11170/01). The agreement comprises arrangements for the reciprocal trade in wines and spirit drinks with a view to creating favourable conditions for its harmonious development. 2. The agreement specifies oenological practices which may be used by producers of wine exported to the other Party, as well as a procedure for accepting new oenological practices. The Community's simplified system of certification will be applied to imported wines originating in Canada. Canada will not introduce import certification for Community wines and will simplify the extent of such testing requirements as are currently applied by provinces, within a year of entry into force. Production standards are agreed for wine made from grapes frozen on the vine. Concerning production standards for spirit drinks, the agreement provides that Canada will adhere to Community standards for its exports of whisky to the Community. 3. Procedures whereby geographical indications relating to wines and spirit drinks of either Party may be protected in the territory of the other Party are agreed. The current "generic" status in Canada of 21 wine names will be ended by the following dates: 31 December 2013 for Chablis, Champagne, Port and Porto, and Sherry; 31 December 2008 for Bourgogne and Burgundy, Rhin and Rhine, and Sauterne and Sauternes; the date of entry into force of the agreement for Bordeaux, Chianti, Claret, Madeira, Malaga, Marsala, Medoc and Médoc, and Mosel and Moselle.

  • Aglianico from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Aglianico From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Aglianico (pronounced [aʎˈʎaːniko], roughly "ahl-YAH-nee- koe") is a black grape grown in the Basilicata and Campania Aglianico regions of Italy. The vine originated in Greece and was Grape (Vitis) brought to the south of Italy by Greek settlers. The name may be a corruption of vitis hellenica, Latin for "Greek vine."[1] Another etymology posits a corruption of Apulianicum, the Latin name for the whole of southern Italy in the time of ancient Rome. During this period, it was the principal grape of the famous Falernian wine, the Roman equivalent of a first-growth wine today. From Greece it was brought to Italy by settlers to Cumae near modern-day Pozzuoli, and from there spread to various points in the regions of Campania and Basilicata. While still grown in Italy, the original Greek plantings seem to have disappeared.[2] In ancient Rome, the grape was the principal component of the world's earliest first-growth wine, Falernian.[1] Ruins from the Greek Along with a white grape known as Greco (today grown as Greco di Tufo), the grape settlement of Cumae.
