    1. Vineyard areas and areas under vine by grape variety Austrian Wine statistics report 1.2 Vineyard areas and areas under vine by grape variety 2 The data in this section is based on the 2015 Survey of Area under Vine, as well as feedback from the wine-producing federal states of Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), Burgenland, Steiermark (Styria) and Wien (Vienna). The main source of data for the 2015 Survey of Area under Vine was the Wein-ONLINE system operated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (BMNT). Data from the remaining federal states was collected by means of a questionnaire (primary data collection). Information relating to the (approved) nurseries was provided by the Burgenland and Lower Austrian Chambers of Agriculture and the Styrian state government (Agricultural Research Centre). According to the 2015 Survey of Area under Vine, Austria’s vineyards occupied 45,574 hectares. The planted vineyard area was 45,439 ha, which corresponds to 94 ha less (or a 0.2% decrease) in comparison to the 2009 Survey of Area under Vine. The long-running trend that suggested a shift away from white wine and towards red was quashed by the 2015 Survey of Area under Vine. While the white wine vineyard area increased by 2.3% to 30,502 ha compared to 2009, the red wine area decreased by 4.9% to 14,937 ha. Figure 1 shows the evolution of Austrian viticulture after the Second World War. The largest area under vine was recorded in 1980 at 59,432 ha. From 1980 onwards, the white wine vineyard area has continuously decreased, while the red wine vineyard area has expanded.

COMMUNICATION OF A STANDARD AMENDMENT TO THE SINGLE DOCUMENT ‘VAUCLUSE’ PGI-FR-A1209-AM01 Submitted on: 2.7.2020 DESCRIPTION OF AND REASONS FOR THE APPROVED AMENDMENT 1. Description of the wine(s) Additional information on the colour of wines has been inserted in point 3.3 ‘Evaluation of the products' organoleptic characteristics’ in order to add detail to the description of the various products. The details in question have also been added to the Single Document under the heading ‘Description of the wine(s)’. 2. Geographical area Point 4.1 of Chapter I of the specification has been updated with a formal amendment to the description of the geographical area. It now specifies the year of the Geographic Code (the national reference stating municipalities per department) in listing the municipalities included in each additional geographical designation. The relevant Geographic Code is the one published in 2019. The names of some municipalities have been corrected but there has been no change to the composition of the geographical area. This amendment does not affect the Single Document. 3. Vine varieties In Chapter I(5) of the specification, the following 16 varieties have been added to those listed for the production of wines eligible for the ‘Vaucluse’ PGI: ‘Artaban N, Assyrtiko B, Cabernet Blanc B, Cabernet Cortis N, Floreal B, Monarch N, Muscaris B, Nebbiolo N, Pinotage N, Prior N, Soreli B, Souvignier Gris G, Verdejo B, Vidoc N, Voltis B and Xinomavro N.’ (1) OJ L 9, 11.1.2019, p.

UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI UDINE in agreement with FONDAZIONE EDMUND MACH PhD School in Agricultural Science and Biotechnology Cycle XXX Doctoral Thesis Chemical characteristics of wine made by disease tolerant varieties PhD Candidate Supervisor Silvia Ruocco Dr. Urska Vrhovsek Co-Supervisor Prof. Doris Rauhut DEFENCE YEAR 2018 To the best gift that life gave us: to you Nonna Rosa CONTENTS Abstract 1 Aim of the PhD project 2 Chapter 1 Introduction 3 Preface to Chapter 2 17 Chapter 2 The metabolomic profile of red non-V. vinifera genotypes 19 Preface to Chapter 3 and 4 50 Chapter 3 Study of the composition of grape from disease tolerant varieties 56 Chapter 4 Investigation of volatile and non-volatile compounds of wine 79 produced by disease tolerant varieties Concluding remarks 140 Summary of PhD experiences 141 Acknowledgements 142 Abstract Vitis vinifera L. is the most widely cultivated Vitis species around the world which includes a great number of cultivars. Owing to the superior quality of their grapes, these cultivars were long considered the only suitable for the production of high quality wines. However, the lack of resistance genes to fungal diseases like powdery and downy mildew (Uncinula necator and Plasmopara viticola) makes it necessary the application of huge amounts of chemical products in vineyard. Thus, the search for alternative and more sustainable methods to control the major grapevine pathogens have increased the interest in new disease tolerant varieties. Chemical characterisation of these varieties is an important prerequisite to evaluate and promote their use on the global wine market. The aim of this project was to produce a comprehensive study of some promising new disease tolerant varieties recently introduced to the cultivation by identifying the peculiar aspects of their composition and measuring their positive and negative quality traits.
