It seemed to me a simple and sensible way of saying that the reader of these pages must not look for many jokes, certainly not merely for jokes, because these are controversial essays, covering all subjects on which a controversialist is challenged, and not particular subjects chosen as they are chosen by an essayist. It is an awful revelation of the world of unreason into which we have wandered, that people more practical than I are convinced that if I say that this is apart from joking, everyone will think it is a joke. -

[email protected] https://eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/ Shameless Television: Gendering Transnational Narratives Beth Johnson ([email protected]) and Laura Minor ([email protected]) School of Media and Communication, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK Abstract The UK television drama Shameless (Channel 4, 2004-2011) ran for eleven series, ending with its 138th episode in 2011. The closing episode did not only mark an end, however, but also a beginning - of a US remake on Showtime (2011-). Eight series down the line and carrying the weight of critical acclaim, this article works to consider the textual representations and formal constructions of gender through the process of adaptation. -

The film stars Ellar Coltrane (BOYHOOD), Ian Nelson (THE BOY NEXTDOOR), Analeigh Tipton (TWO NIGHT STAND), Callan McAuliffe (THE GREAT GATSBY), Ella Hunt (ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE), Hayden Szeto (TRUTH OR DARE), Bill Milner (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS), Lana Condor (TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE), Elena Kampouris (BEFORE I FALL), Khris Davis (DETRIOT), Melina Vidler (TV’s 800 Words), with Victoria Justice (THE OUTCASTS), and Justin Chatwin (TV’s Shameless). The film will be released in Spring 2019. It’s the last days of summer. Best friends Seth and Jameson are getting ready to perform—and party—at local rock venue The Alamo. But before the night begins, both young men come face- to-face with serious reality checks: Seth receives life-changing news from his girlfriend Mel, and Jameson has to choose between his on-again-off-again girlfriend Corin and a new girl he’s just met, the outspoken Harmony. At the show, Seth and Jameson’s friends are too caught up in their own lives to be much help: young rocker Taylor romances his new crush Dana, and awkward Jack “Rabbit” avoids his childhood friend Lexi after learning what she did at her sister’s wedding. These intertwining friend-dramas, fueled by a lot of drinking, unfold against a backdrop of live music performed by the best bands in town.
