Grapevine Summer 2018 #27.Pub Coseley Grapevine SUMMER 2018—E DITION 27 Coseley group wins prestigious award The friends of the Silver Jubilee Park Coseley have worked tirelessly as a group in transforming the unused and overgrown old bowling green into a community garden alongside MCDONALDS who have very kindly sponsored them. Imagine their surprise when, in July of this year, they were nominated for and WON the very prestigious Community Inspiration Award 2018 at the Al Miraj Banqueting Suite in Birmingham. The Community Inspiration Award (now in its 8th year) is organised by the Community Foundation in Birmingham to recognise outstanding contributions from public sector organisations and members of the community whose efforts have made a positive difference. The award ceremony consisted of twelve categories with each being awarded finalist and winner. The Friends of the Silver Jubilee Park were successful in the Environmental Champion Award section for working together as a group, showing leadership skills and making a positive impact in their local community. Pictured here are some of the members who attended the Awards ceremony along with Councillor Waseem Zaffar ( Cabinet member Birmingham City Council ) and Nozmul Hussain ( Chief Executive Community Foundation ) ECBL steps in to help…….. Following a break in at Christ Church, in which several items were stolen, including the portable communion set, East Coseley Big Local stepped in to contribute a new set using funding provided by the National Lottery Community fund. It is used to outreach to people unable to get to the church for Sunday worship, and is shown here in use at Jack Newell Court, where every Tuesday morning communion is held for the residents. Parish Priest Emma Stanford is shown leading the service. Also at the service is Pastoral Lay Reader, Bob Hill. Brought to you by volunteers from the East Coseley Community Forum Martial Arts Training Darren Langston has been training in the Martial Arts since the early 80s but only started to take his training seriously in early 90s when he was bullied at work. This explains why Darren has always been driven by self defence and self development in the Martial Arts rather than the sporting side. At 11 years of age he started training in Boxing before moving on to Lau Gar Kung and Wado Ryu Karate along with many other styles. From this foundation Darren went on to study and develop what he felt were more practical Martial Arts (with the main focus being on striking) and as a result currently holds a 5th Dan in Karate Jutsu. After teaching for and with others for many years Darren opened his own school (Langston Martial Arts Academy) in 2008 and Developed LMAA Kickboxing and also holds a 6th Dan in this style. Several years ago he took up Bruce Lee's system of Jeet Kune Do under Instructor Marcie Harding and is now a senior Instructor in this style. It is Bruce Lee's fighting method that Darren now brings to Darkhouse Baptist Church on Monday nights. ECBL Tea Dance is returning to Darkhouse Baptist Church On Friday 21st September 11am to 2pm Cost is £3 per person For more information, contact Neil on 07472 627497 Or [email protected] www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life Coseley Buzz Garden The Buzz Garden is well under way now, thanks to Joe Gittins and other members of the Coseley Bowling Club, it is brightening up a corner of a great Bowling Green. In addition to looking rather good, it is now being visited by bees, butterflies and all manner of insects and small animals that make it not only a haven for plants and wildlife but good for our environment. East Coseley Big Local’s small part in providing the money to start this project has now made a big difference. If your Community Group or Club in the East Coseley area want to help make a difference, then get in touch with Neil (all details are on the back page). Coffee Mornings at Summerhill Community Centre First Tuesday each month 11am to 2pm www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life Jack Newell Court celebrates 30 Years The Jack Newell Court celebrated 30 years in July when Elaine and friends laid on a party with drinks, food and a singer to get everyone there in the party spirit. It was a lovely afternoon, where most of the residents were joined by family and friends. Jack Newell Court is a sheltered housing scheme managed by Dudley MBC with 38 self-contained flats. Each flat has its own front door, which opens onto a street-like scene with raised garden beds and a big TV room where people can meet, play games or use the small kitchen to make a brew to accompany their chat. East Coseley Big Local loves working with the residents of Jack Newell Court and some of the residents join us for our Lunches and Community Chats where we hope will help to reduce isolation and loneliness for residents of East Coseley. Happy 30th Birthday to Jack Newell Court. Here’s to another 30 years! Providence Baptist Church Coffee In The Park Last Monday of each month 10:45 to 12:15 At The Hub, Silver Jubilee Park www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life All-round great day at www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life this year’s BIG EVENT This was our 5th BIG Event on Clayton Playing Fields and once again, East Coseley Big Local did not disappoint the hundreds of people who came along and enjoyed another family fun day. There were the usual inflatables, face painters, donkey rides, children’s entertainers together with two fairground rides which were new this year for the younger ones, not to mention the burgers, ice cream, cake and candy floss. It’s great to see so many people of all ages from Coseley enjoying what is becoming a significant annual event for our community. The Reverend Emma Stanford from Christ Church said a few words, blessing the event and then Councillor Hilary Bills (Deputy Mayor) accompanied by her consort, John Bills, officially opened the event. Many thanks to all. Councillor Susan Ridney, Brian Guest (Chair of ECBL) and Neil Langford (Support Officer for ECBL) escorted the Deputy Mayor and MP for Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden, introducing them to everyone. We were also joined on the day by Ian Austin (MP for Dudley) and our new Councillor for Coseley, Bec Gentle. Visiting the Big Event this year was Kevin Sugrue, who is Chair of Big Local and we hope he and his family had a good day with us, despite the long journey! Huge thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make this such a success. We really couldn’t do it without all your hard work but greater thanks to all the families who came along for a fun filled day and made it all worthwhile. We look forward to seeing you all next year! www.eastcoseleybiglocal.net - [email protected] - fb Coseley Life Rewarding trip for Allotments On Thursday 28th June, Neil and Helena from Big Local were invited to join Dave, Ron and Maria from Coseley Allotments to join Natalie at Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster. The invitation was from West Midlands Trains who now run the trains on the Liverpool to London line. West Midlands Trains took over the franchise in December 2017 and they extended the invitation as a way of thanking everyone at Bayer Street Allotments for all the hard work they do in planting and maintaining the flower bed and window boxes at our lovely Coseley Railway Station. All of the group were invited but due to prior commitments, only four were able to attend. The group were able to meet not only the new Community Rail Staff but other Station Adopters, also doing great work on their local railway stations. Everyone had a great day, met some great people and shared ideas about what makes Coseley Railway Station unique., thanks to the generosity of West Midlands Trains. Thursday 28 November 5.30-11pm Friday 29 November 12noon-11pm Saturday 30 November 12noon-11pm Organised by the Campaign for Real Ale Sponsored by Holden’s Brewery OFFICIAL PROGRAMME Welcome to Dudley Winter Ales Fayre 2019 Firstly, welcome to Dudley Winter Ales Fayre 2019 (DWAF19), sponsored by Holden’s Brewery of Woodsetton; a special thanks for all the brewery’s help. Once again, we are lucky enough to be hosted by Dudley Town Hall. A big thank you to all the staff and their continuing hard work to make our Beer Festival such a success. As always DWAF is run completely by volunteers; we started planning the festival in June, but really it never stops. Special thanks go to all the volunteers and their undying loyalty to putting on such a long running festival. The set up started on Monday morning and in a few short hours the setup, cooling and cellar teams created the largest bar in Dudley at the grade 2 listed Town Hall. Again, this year, the beer selection team has tried to choose a varied range of beer and cider. Some local breweries are featured along with some lesser known breweries. We again feature a Key Keg Bar and Foreign Beer Fridge. DWAF is once again judging several competitions including the Champion Beer of the West Midlands.

'1n particular, the railway system must be remodelled to meet current needs, and the modernisation plan must be adapted to this new shape.' It may appear that the lapse of three years between the date when the original reference was made to the necessity for reshaping the railways and the emergence of a plan is excessive, but there are two reasons why it took so long.
