"Meytav" Vocal Ensemble aus Rosh Ha'ayin An international event for the Christian - Jewish Understanding in Bremen, including young people of Muslim belief 15 Israelis hosted by families in Bremen The Meytav Vocal Ensemble is from the Israeli city Rosh Haayin. It was founded in 2005 by its present conductor and music director and the following year it became a member of the Israeli Hallel Choral Organization. The ensemble, which is part of the Rosh-Haayin Music Conservatory, includes 18 singers aged 13-18 years old who come together twice a week at the Rosh-Haayin Music Institute, Meytav's home base. Soon after its establishment the Meytav Vocal Ensemble became Rosh-Haayin's most celebrated vocal group. The group regularly performs at a variety of major events including municipal, ceremonies, and at concerts throughout Israel. The young singers come from various social and economic backgrounds and often join the group with no prior musical knowledge or education. They are motivated by their talent and have a deep sense of dedication to the art of music, and a desire to perform at the highest professional level. Once they are accepted into the group, the singers undertake a program of voice and language training, instrumental training, music theory and appreciation, movement and drama. The group often hosts well known artists: singers, choreographers, and conductors, who share their artistry with Israel's young generation of musicians through workshops and master classes at the Rosh Haayin Music institute. Meytav Vocal Ensemble also collaborates with other Israeli, Arab, and international vocal groups in intercultural activities. In July 2008 Meytav will host the New York Collegiate Chorale Youth Choir in a special joint workshop at the institute. Meytav's repertoire is varied and ranges from classical music to Israeli folk-songs, international folk-music, pop, jazz and blues classics, as well as contemporary classical and avant-guard works. Eager to explore new artistic ideas, Meytav often collaborates with aspiring young composers who write pieces especially for the group. In April 2008 the Meytav Vocal Ensemble will travel to the United States on its first international concert tour, followed by an invitation to perform in Germany in Bremen 2009. As a part of Christian –Jewish Encounters there will be a a meeting of young people from Israel and Germany in Bremen 2009. Titel: BEGEGNUNGEN 2005 „Instruments of Peace“ The Project: Young people from Israel and Germany will meet in Germany and come together in workshops and projects. They can get to know eachother, learn a way of respect and Understanding and can make friends with their partners from Israel. A visit of the German group in Israel will give the students a chance to get to know eachother`s cultures even more intensively. In workshops and projects the young people will hae the chance to discuss issues of the past, of intercultural topics and get a better insight of eachothers backgrounds. One example that provides the students with a base for discussion is the film made (by the BertelsmannFoundation) “Conversations” about the experiences of young Germans in Israel. Preparation 13 young Israeli and 2 adults are visiting Germany. They are young people who got to know eachother in Israel through their shared love for music. Together with their hosts in Bremen they will take part in our programme and in all the activites we organize. They will for instance experience school lessons in English together. In this way, our young visitors from Israel can see what the daily school life is like in Germany. Besides other activites and trips, the young people will have the chance to get to know eachother especially well in the organization process of our concert “We are all neighbours around the Mediterranian Sea” (“Wir sind alle Nachbarn rund ums Mittelmeer”) The schedule of our program will of course be discussed and planned in cooperation with the German schools. The schools will also receive all material about our projects in advance. In various meetings in the school and in the evenings with the host families we will represent and show our project as a demonstration of Understanding, Peace and Cultural Exchange. – The Multifaceted City Leading edge attractions pace the way into the future Bremen, home to the world famous Town Musicians, puts itself on the map as the pulsating, multifaceted heart of North West Germany. A popular hive of heritage, science, high technology and space industry keeps up breathtakingly pacy innovations. The 1,200 year old Hanseatic city has a unique quality that ensures a metropolitan city experience like no other – from rejuvenated Schlachte Promenade on the River Weser and the full-sized Columbus Space Module of the International Space Station to world beating attractions like the Universum Science Center Bremen. Famously historic city. 1,200 years have woven a rich tapestry of Hanseatic heritage and cosmopolitan culture in Bremen. Strife for independence left an indelible mark on the city. Today, Bremen and Bremerhaven are near neighbours banded together in a two-city state, which is Germany’s smallest Federal state from sixteen. The magnificent architecture that radiates from the distinct Weser Renaissance Rathaus and the graceful Roland statue in Market Square (UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004), the city’s oldest living quarter at Schnoor, the exceptional structures in historic Böttcherstrasse and the imposing cathedral are etched in history. The delightful sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians remains a defining monument for the Grimm Brothers’ celebrated fairy tale. Waterfront city. Central Bremen has renewed its links with the River Weser in a way that has revitalised the city’s distinctive waterfront. The waterway, which transformed the Hanseatic city into a proud metropolitan centre, still echoes nautical rhythms and is a magnet for the entire city. Just minutes from the city centre, Schlachte with its wealth of trendy bars, friendly cafes, international restaurants and outdoor seating for some 2,000 people gives almost two million visitors each year plenty to watch over. The quayside is lined with vessels large and small, including a subtle pancake ship, the three-masted frigate Admiral Nelson and a replica cog ship, which typifies a Hanseatic vessel from the 13th and 14th centuries. Some 60km away on the North Sea coast, Bremerhaven holds the key to Northern Germany. The air of a seafaring port bursts from every corner of the busy but young seaport, which offers a remarkable range of leisurely yet informative attractions within easy reach of each other – from landscaping and pedestrian areas along miles of waterfront promenades, in generous areas of parkland and on the scenic River Geeste walking trail to close-up views of world beating harbours that flood your senses. Visitors to the maritime city will find a number of unmissable experiences in close proximity, like the German Maritime Museum with its attractive museum harbour, the new Zoo by the Sea, the recent German Emigration Center, a tour by Harbour Bus or the Lloyd Shipyard Visitor Centre in one of the world’s busiest ports. City of Science. Bremen and Bremerhaven have long been fostering a lively exchange of science and public awareness including visitors to the two cities. In 2005, the city-state was even declared ‘City of Science’ as new attractions wow the crowd like no others with new ways of looking at the natural world and science. Cutting edge technology brings the universe alive in the Universum Bremen, which exceeded all expectations since the spectacular new building opened in September 2000. Each day, the triple attraction on earth, man and cosmos welcomes around 1,300 visitors to 200 visuals, interactives, simulations and playful settings where learning goes hand in hand with having a good time. Centre of aerospace technology. Bremen is shaped by stunning engineering, spanning ship building, aircraft construction, space station assembly and space propulsion systems. Space industry divisions that make Bremen the most significant centre of aerospace development in Germany include EADS Astrium, OHB System AG and ZARM drop tower. Those intrigued by space flight can step straight into today’s hi-tech aerospace industry at EADS Astrium to appreciate a full-scale walk-through of the European Columbus science module, which is expected to hook up with the International Space Station (ISS). The tour allows visitors to stand shoulder to shoulder with space engineers and find out about how astronauts take a shower, eat, run missions and rest in orbit, giving them the chance to explore what it takes to get man into space. EADS develops and produces orbital facilities, launch vehicle propulsion means and the wings for the Airbus family of aircraft. Close to nature. Bremen is a green city, which is not surprising for a metropolitan centre that inhabits two global players with ‘green’ corporate branding colours – Werder Bremen Football Club and Beck’s Brewery. But the city’s real claim to fame are its many magnificent parks, gardens and open spaces. The Rhododendron Park in Bremen has won unrivalled recognition, containing around 680 of the world’s 1,000 rhododendrons, in addition to some 1,000 hybrids of each rhododendrons and azaleas. The park also boasts the green science centre botanika, which is home to three dazzling attractions: discovery centre, the Himalayas/Borneo and a Japanese Garden. The near-natural sceneries are the exciting backdrop for an amazing trail that brings the botanical richness of blooming rhododendrons to life.
