DEVELOPMENT OF BILINGUAL CHILDREN’S FICTION WITH THE THEME JAMBINESE LOCAL WISDOM, LOCAL LANGUAGE AND CULTURE Armiwati, Tubagus Zam Zam Al Arif Jambi University E-mail: [email protected] Abstract: Children’s literature is as an creative imagination which is expressed in a series of events that are full of simple messages. Children's literature aims to introduce life descriptions that are meaningful to children related to their age. Through this creative imagination , children will get to know and explore their environment both in the natural and social environment in an entertaining and fun way without coercion or stating of being adjusted. Norton (2010:3) states developing positive attitudes toward our own culture and the culture of other is necessary for both social and personal development. Through a collection of children's stories with the theme of Jambinese local wisdom, language and culture in the frame of the diversity, in hopes, to introduce and build children’s attitudes to always appreciate what is in their environment. The collection of children's stories is a medium of communication with children to stimulate children’s imagination and develops a positive attitude towards their social environments; parents, teachers, brothers, sisters and their friends as instilling ethical values as the character of the Indonesian nation. Thus children's literature will provide an aesthetic experience of Jambinese local wisdom, language and culture and will stimulate intellectual and emotional responses for children through imagination in accordance with their age. Determining the bathymetry of lakes is important to assess the potential and the vulnerability of this valuable resource. The dilution and circulation of nutrients or pollutants is largely dependant on the volume of water and the incoming and outgoing fluxes, while the degree and frequency of mixing depends on the water depth. The bathymetry of lakes is also important to understand the spatial distribution of sediments, which in turn are valuable archives of natural hazards and environmental change. -

Hanya seorang saja yang berlatar belakang akademik antropologi tari. Selain itu, tim kami ini ada dua orang yang berlatar belakang pendidikan strata dua antropologi dan sosiologi. Oleh karenanya latar belakang keilmuan ini, sangat mewarnai apa yang kami tulis dalam buku ini. Corresponding author: J. Nurdin, [email protected] Abstract. Intensive freshwater fish farming using floating-net-cages in Lake Maninjau has been conducted since 1992. Fish farming intensification can reduce water quality and affect aquatic biotic communities. This research aims to study the impact of floating-net-cages activities on the phytoplankton communities, and its correlation to primary productivity, chlorophyll-a, and water quality of Lake Maninjau. Five representative sampling sites from Lake Maninjau were chosen purposively. Primary productivity, chlorophyll-a, and water quality were analyzed using the oxygen method, chlorophyll extract from autotrophic organisms and the tropical index respectively, then all parameters were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) to present the pattern. Water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), light intensity, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total P, and total N were also measured. From the results, we found 17 species of phytoplankton from 5 classes. Phytoplankton abundance ranged from 1980 to 3540 individual L-1, with the lowest abundance found in Sigiran Site (incubation zone) and the highest in Kubu Baru Site (surface waters). The biomass estimation value of chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.415 to 0.104 mg C m-3, with the highest value found on the surface water in Sigiran Site and the lowest in incubation zone in Tanjung Sani Site. -

Geographically is located between 00 45' to 20 45' Latitude South and 1010 10' to 1040 55' Longitude East. Jambi Province is separated by Riau Province in the north, Malacca strait in the east, West Sumatra in the west and South Sumatra in the south. The width of Jambi Province is 53.534 km2 that consists of. Kerinci Regency 4.200 Km2 (7.86%) Bungo Tebo Regency 13.500 Km2 (25.26%) Sarolangun Bangko Regency 14.200 Km2 (26.57%) Batang Hari Regency 11.130 Km2 (20.83%) Tanjung Jabung Regency 10.200 Km2 (19.09%) The Municipality of Jambi 205 Km2 (0.39%) The agricultural and forestry sector is the main emitter of green house gas (GHG) in this area. A study was done by Prasetyo et al (1998) to estimate GHG emission using remote sensing and geographical information system in Jambi. Unfortunately there was not discussion concerning the gas emission from animal. In fact, the emission of GHG also builds up from animal. Machmüller and Clark (2006) reported that methane emissions comprise 37 % of total greenhouse gas emissions whereas enteric emissions from cow and sheep are the main source. Methane Methane, the simplest alkanes, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula of CH4. -

Chapter 3 Geology & Tectonics 3.1 Geology The general geological features of Indonesia are shown in Figure 3.1. The basement formation is metamorphic and it is intruded with plutonic formations. They are overlain with Mesozoic, Cenozoic, recent volcanic formations and quaternary deposits. The oldest rocks of Sumatra Island are gneiss, schist and quartzite and the schists often contain gold. They probably belong to several geological periods, but all were folded and denuded before the Carboniferous beds were deposited. They form the backbone of the island, and crop out on the surface at intervals along the mountain chain which runs parallel to the west coast. They are penetrated by granitic rock at several locations, which are also Pre-Carboniferous. The next series of rocks consist of slates below and limestone above. It lies unconformably upon the older rocks; and the limestone contains Fusulina, Phihipsia and Productus, indicating that it belongs to the Upper Carboniferous. They are accompanied by intrusions of diabase and gabbro, and they are sometimes folded, but they are little disturbed. No Permian beds are known, and Mesozoic deposits such as Triassic clays and sandstones with Daonella have been found in the upper part of the basin of the Kwalu (East Sumatra). They rest unconformably upon the Carboniferous beds, and have been steeply tilted. Cretaceous beds also have been buckled. Tertiary deposits are very widely spread over the plains and low-lying regions. They consist of breccias, conglomerates, sandstones, marls, and limestones, with seams of coal and lignite. -

Intersectoral Management of River Basins Water Management in the Upper Sub-Basin of the Inderagiri River Basin in Indonesia: Issues and Implications Related to Integrated Water Resources Management Helmi Lecturer, Centre for Irrigation, Land and Water Resources Development Studies Andalas University, Padang, Indonesia Abstract Integrated water resources management (lWRM) is an important development agenda for addressing institutional problems and capacity building for the 41se, control, preservation and sustainability of water systems. Pursuing this requires understanding of related issues and their implications for dev~/opment of effective water management institutions. Indonesia is in the process of reforming its water resources management policy, which will give emphasis to putting IWRM principles into action. One of the elements of the new policy is related to the improvement of river-basin management. Although experience on river-basin management has been developed in one basin (Brantas river basin in East Java), this was not the case for other regions of the country until lately. This paper discusses the dynamics of water use and management in the upper sub-basin of the Inderagiri river basin, in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Issues and implications related to IWRM are identified. The topics covered are: the policy and institutional context of river-basin management, with an overview of the water management policy reforms and related aspects of policy relevant to improvement of river-basin management in West Sumatra Province; a more specific discussion on the setting and hydrology of the upper sub-basin; a special case illustrating water use competition and water allocation in a river (Ombilin River) within the upper sub-basin.
