White City Living will see 1,400 new homes built over eight acres of parkland and gardens, all within 15 minutes of central London. This new neighbourhood will create innovative uses for the refurbished railway arches; providing the area with cafés, shops and a connection to nearby Westfield. A development by Computer generated image, indicative only. REGENERATION LONDON DOCK In the 18th century, this 15 acre site lay at the heart of London’s docklands. It is now being transformed into a new neighbourhood with 1,800 homes, 486 of which will be affordable, set within a series of landscaped public squares and gardens containing cafés and shops. We have collaborated with Bow Arts to create studios in the listed Pennington Street Warehouse, which are being used by almost 100 artists and makers. A development by HERITAGE ST JOSEPH’S GATE The award-winning Grade II listed chapel and seminary college at Mill Hill was originally conceived by Cardinal Vaughan 150 years ago. This is now the centrepiece of 49 new and converted homes at our St Joseph’s Gate development in north London. The Chapel itself has been transformed into an 8,000 sq ft home with vaulted ceilings and views looking across the village below. A development by INTRODUCING ST JOSEPH St Joseph is Berkeley’s newest brand, created to bring our passion for quality and placemaking to Birmingham and the West Midlands.     tt Collected case studies: Housing • Strategic site allocation and densification • Building new suburbs • Delivering housing across the UK This paper brings together a number of case studies on how cities from the UK and beyond have delivered housing where it is needed most There is now broad consensus that the UK needs to build more homes. But the need for new homes is far more acute in some places than in others, and housing in Britain’s most economically successful cities tends to be the least affordable. Our case studies show how cities are addressing these challenges by increasing the density of existing communities, evaluating land on its merits rather than its existing designation, and working with neighbourhood authorities. The case studies demonstrating how cities deliver housing and what they are trying to achieve are split into four groups: • Strategic site allocation and densification The UK needs to deliver more housing in high-demand areas where houses are least affordable.
