JAMIE STEWART The Shafter Press The Kern County Public Works Department proposed an increase in land use fees for residents and the rest of Kern County. Currently, residents pay SHAFTER $82.89 per household for land use fees, which are billed with residents’ property tax bills. The increase would be $22 for homes and $17 for apart- ments. This increase is to give cities in Kern County extra money to deal with illegal dumping. According to Lynn Brooks, of Kern County Public Works, said illegal dump- ing is a growing problem that needs to be addressed.
