Dave “Kahuna” Nicholas XTERRA World Tour Race Director About the XTERRA England Trail Runs The XTERRA England Trail Runs are held in conjunction with the XTERRA European/XTERRA England Championship and XTERRA World Tour ‐ a global series of off‐road triathlons spanning twenty‐eight countries that qualifies athletes to race at the XTERRA World Championship on Maui. Trail Runners are offered the chance to test themselves over a 10K or 20K course. There’s also a Family Fun Run that is free to all children and their parents. The main event of the weekend is the XTERRA European Championship off‐road triathlon. We will also host XTERRA England Sprint distance. Visit the event website here. You can join the discussion by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (use hashtag #xterraUK15). Volunteers wanted Know someone who is not racing, but wants to be a part of XTERRA? Vachery Estate is in the heart of London’s playground and is a great place to relax, unwind and recharge your batteries. Camp out under the stars or find a great local inn, hotel or B&B. The Race Village is the place to hang out and watch the races – rain or shine (there’s a large tented area in case of rain). When it’s all over we’ll party with food, drinks and live music –and with the holiday on Monday, there’s no excuse not to let it rip! Getting there The Estate is located just outside the picturesque village of Cranleigh in the Surrey Hills, only minutes from London and the M25, M23 and M3 motorways. If you’re from overseas, fly into London to either Heathrow or Gatwick and rent a car from rentalcars.com for the short drive. From Heathrow (to the north) it is about 1hour 15 minutes by car and about 40 minutes from Gatwick (to the west). For the route from London – see Google maps here. From the M25 take exit 10 to the A3 towards Guildford. In Guildford take A281 south towards Bramley Take B2130 towards Cranleigh Take B2128 until you see the XTERRA flags identifying the entrance Please note the annual “Wings and Wheels” Festival is taking place in nearby Dunsfold on Saturday and Sunday. 15,000 vehicles are expected in/out of the event and it may cause traffic delays in the area. Please check 87.7FM for “Wings and Wheels”‐related travel, weather and show updates, and make sure to allow extra time to get to the race venue. Accommodations There are a variety of inns, hotels and B&Bs in Cranleigh and the surrounding towns of Guildford, Godalming, Peaslake, Dorking, and Horsham. Camping is available at the Estate beginning at noon on Thursday, August 27 through 2pm on Monday, August 31. Cost is £10 per car per night and can be purchased online until Wednesday at 8pm or onsite at Race Pack Collection. More information about camping is here. Camper Entry: Do not enter the race/transition field. Camping entry is through the wider metal gates, past the large barn. The vehicle access gate into the PRIVATE Vachery Estate will be open Thursday at 12 noon to 5pm, and Friday from 8am until 5pm. There is no in‐and‐out after this time. On Saturday and Sunday, the gate opens at 8am and will remain open overnight. All campers must leave the estate by 12pm on Monday. There is strictly no access to the swim, bike or run course after the triathlon event on race day or on Monday. Your emergency contact is Richard Campbell, who will also be camping and can be reached at 07 921920925. Note: If you paid/registered to camp, you should have received a camping permit and shower coupons by email. Check your spam filter. If you need a resend, email our camping coordinator. Vachery Estate Privacy XTERRA is fortunate to be allowed to use Vachery Estate for the event. It is a private home and we must respect their privacy. Barriers are in place that will provide you with guidance to off‐limits areas. Access to the estate on the far side of the lake is strictly prohibited. There is no race practice allowed outside of stated times. It is important that you refrain from uploading course details to social networking sites and strava (or similar sites). Thank you for your cooperation. Spectators Spectators are encouraged to explore the race course within course open hours and race management will point them towards the best places to watch the race – many of which are within a 5‐minute walk of the transition and race village. What to bring Here is a suggested list of things trail runners should bring on race day: Picture ID (present at Race Pack Collection) Race clothing Race belt for race bib on the run leg (safety pins will be included in your Race Pack should you not have a race belt) Water bottles Running shoes Sunglasses Hat/Visor (optional for the run) Sunscreen Rain gear (optional) Camping permit and shower coupons (if applicable) Leave no trace The XTERRA England team ask that you respect the environment and the trails.
