We studied specifically the combination between CIR-SM01 and Marsellesa® (a Sarchimor line), which provides a hybrid population called Starmaya. We demonstrated that the establishment of seed garden under natural pollination is possible and produces a sufficient amount of hybrid seeds to be multiplied efficiently and economically. As expected for F1 hybrid, the performances of Starmaya are highly superior to conventional cultivars. However, we observed some heterogeneity on Starmaya cultivar Edited by: in the field. Among them, 205 cultivars were identified at one time by the genotypes of 18 markers, but 13 cultivars belonged to six groups in which cultivars were indistinguishable from each other. The 205 cultivars were individually distinguished from the others using combinations of up to six markers. This result was considered to be useful for the identification of Japanese commercial rice cul- tivars, monitoring the contamination of rice with other cultivars, and rice breeding using these cultivars. PERFORMANCE REPORT State: Louisiana Project Number: W-55-25 Project Title: Upland Survey Period Covered: July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011 Study Number and Title: V-4, Bobwhite Fall Whistling Surveys Study Objective: To determine relative size and distribution of bobwhite populations in Louisiana. Study Abstract Bobwhite fall whistling counts were conducted statewide along 32 routes (7 additional routes were assumed zeros and 4 others were unable to be run). Fall whistling counts did not differ (P = 0.3482) among the 5 habitat types for 2010. They did, however, differ between 2009 and 2010, with more whistling counts detected in 2009 than in 2010 for both the Northwest mixed shortleaf and loblolly pine-hardwood and Florida Parishes loblolly pine habitats. No coveys were recorded on the Northwest mixed shortleaf and loblolly pine- hardwood or Mississippi/Atchafalaya agricultural belt (0.00 whistles/stop) in 2010 (Tables 1 and 2). Jackson- Bienville WMA, Camp Beauregard, and Vernon District No. 1 routes yielded 0.25, 0.00, and 0.10 whistles/stop, respectively (Table 3). Five (5) summer bobwhite counts were conducted on the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area. Counts ranged from 12-45 (Figure 1). The 2011 mean count was 27.6, which is the same as in 2010. The peak count (45) was lower than the long-term (1986-2010) average peak count of 89.3, but was higher than 8 of the past 10 years (Figure 2). A. Activity: Fall whistling counts were conducted along 37 pre-selected routes to determine relative size and distribution of fall bobwhite populations. The 5 habitat types surveyed were historic longleaf pine, mixed shortleaf and loblolly pine-hardwood, loblolly pine (Florida Parishes), the rice belt and the Mississippi/Atchafalaya agricultural belt. -

On November 9, 2000, the President signed the Grain Standards and Warehouse Improvement Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-472) which amended the USWA in its entirety and modernized the regulation of Federal warehouses to better reflect current trade and operational practices. The 2000 Act authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to license and examine public warehouse operators that store agricultural products. It also gives the Secretary broad authority to improve the administration of various aspects involving the trade of agricultural products under the purview of the USWA, including the use, establishment and maintenance of electronic warehouse receipts and other electronic documents for all agricultural products. The USWA is considered a “permissive regulatory act.” It is permissive because it only applies to warehouse operators who voluntarily apply for licensing and regulatory because each licensee must operate under its provisions and be subject to the regulations and licensing agreements administered by the USWA. -

Asopcafa was formed in 2013 by 88 coffee growers living in and around the municipality of Aipe. The growers, above all, sought to promote agriculture (in particular, coffee) as a means of human development in the region. Like much of rural Colombia, Huila was heavily affected by the Colombian Armed Conflict of the 1990s and early 2000s. FARC guerrillas took over huge swaths of Northern Nariño and neighbouring Tolima & Cauca, creating a corridor of migration into Huila as families fled FARC control and the ensuing violence. Governmental presence was limited, the FARC had a heavy hand in the local economy, and families and communities had great difficulties making ends meet. -

Abstract In layers of phosphorites and gray calcareous mudstones of the Loma Gorda Formation, in the vicinity of the municipal seat of Yaguará in Huila department, Colombia, were found fossils teeth of chondrichthyes, these were extracted from the rocks by mechanical means, to be compared with the species in the bibliography in order to indentify them. The species were: Ptychodus mortoni (order Hybodontiformes), were found, Squalicorax falcatus and Cretodus crassidens (order Lamniformes). This finding constitutes the first record of these species in the Colombian territory; which allows to extend its paleogeographic distribution to the northern region of South America, which until now was limited to Africa, Europe, Asia and North America, except for the Ptychodus mortoni that has been described before in Venezuela. I previously had a little bit of knowledge of the drug problem taking place in Colombia, so I decided to do some more research on it. After finding out a little more background knowledge on Colombia, I decided that this would be a good country for me to complete a research project on. Colombia is currently home to some of the most sophisticated and violent drug cartels in the world. Since the 1970s, many of the original cartels have died off, but some that have survived have actually multiplied. There are currently 300 known active drug smuggling cartels in Colombia that transport drugs, mainly cocaine, to all parts of the world. The United States is the biggest recipient of Colombian cocaine. The Colombian government along with the help of United States officials have been battling the drug trafficking problem in Colombia for years. That is why I thought a drug rehab center in Colombia would be an appropriate non-profit organization to start up.
