Escalada Do Sil Tinto
Escalada do Sil Tinto Like many of the wines Alberto Orte makes, Escalada do Sil is a history project. Intrigued by century-old wine writing that described elegant, aromatic reds from Valdeorras, Alberto sought to replicate this style, veering away from the Godello that is the predominant grape now planted in the region. He found an old-vine parcel, terraced because of its almost cliff-like steepness, at the western end of the appellation adjacent to Ribera Sacra. He found a plot to Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet), and Merenzao, the grape known as Bastardo in Portugal and Trousseau in the Jura region of France. With these cool-climate, aromatic red varieties, Alberto knew he could bring this history to life with Escalada do Sil – the Staircase to the Sil. Whole cluster fermented with ambient yeasts, the swirling, shimmering aromatics of Escalada do Sil evoke the mountain reds of old Galicia with sanguine and floral notes and a bright, elegant profile. WHAT MAKES THIS WINE UNIQUE?: A history project from Alberto Orte, Escalada do Sil is a elegant, powerfully aromatic red from a region that has become best known for white wine production. Produced from Merenzao (also known as Bastardo, and in France, Trousseau), Mencia and Garnacha Tintorera, this is a blend that evokes a time gone by, when red wines were favored in the region. The fruit all comes from steeply sloped mountain sites that are terraced, requiring hand harvesting only. Godello 2017
GODELLO 2017 THE COLLECTION OF SPANISH GRAPE VARIETIES A white grape variety native to the north-eastern region of Spain, probably originating from the slopes of the Sil River in the D.O. Valdeoras... It can be found throughout Galicia, northern Portugal and the D.O. Bierzo. Traces of its production have been found dating back to the 12th century in the areas of Castile-Leon and Bierzo. Outside of these regions, it is grown in the D.O. Abona, El Hierro, La Palma, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro, Tacoronte-Acentejo, Valle de Güimar, Valle de la Orot- rava and Icoden-Daute- Isora (Tenerife). Sometimes there is confusion with Verdejo if you don’t see its leaves. Respected for its well develo- ped qualities, Godello shows a complex aromatic profile. It prefers dry climates and low humidity soils. Ages well in barrels. 1.200 Ha planted in Spain TECHNICAL INFORMATION Harvest time: End of September Classification: Bierzo DO Origin of the grapes: Bierzo Grape Variety: Godello Vinification: Fermentation at 12ºC for 15 days and completion of the fermentation at 16ºC. Aging on lees 60 days with daily batonages of 5 minutes Barrel ageing: No Winemaker: Ruben Magallanes TASTING NOTES Superb golden colour, delicate and radiant. Fresh and expressive nose, with a seductive note of lemons, white fruit (golden apple) and early spring flowers and a hint of yeast from the lees. The supple and full bodied mouthfeel is complemented by exquisite acidity. The mid-palate is ample and the lingering finish reveals citrus notes, cut grass and spices. PAIRING Ribs, roasts and cutlets, as well as curried poultry, pasta with shellfish and seafood will all go perfectly with this wine for dinner with friends. -
GALICIA: VINO DE LA RIBEIRA SACRA Enoturismo
Xogo De Bolos De Parada Do Sil
XOGO DE BOLOS DE PARADA DO SIL. Ourense DIFUSION DA RECOLLEITA DE XOGO TRADICIONAL DE PARADA DO SIL “UN CONTO DE MESTRES” O CONTO DO XOGO E OS MESTRES EN PARADA DE SIL -Conta Jose Luis, mestre, hoxe xa en Cantabria xubilado, que se deixou de xogar á Renca (ou Reca) (chamada tamén Porca1 no País) o mesmo día que el tendo 12 anos recibiu un golpe na cara co pau cando un brutolas lle tentaba meter a porca defendendo o seu guá. O mestre prohibiuno solemnemente. -

Connectivity Study in Northwest Spain: Barriers, Impedances, and Corridors
sustainability Article Connectivity Study in Northwest Spain: Barriers, Impedances, and Corridors Enrique Valero, Xana Álvarez * and Juan Picos AF4 Research Group, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering, Forestry Engineering College, University of Vigo, Campus A Xunqueira, s/n, 36005 Pontevedra, Spain; [email protected] (E.V.); [email protected] (J.P.) * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +34-986-801-959 Received: 9 August 2019; Accepted: 14 September 2019; Published: 19 September 2019 Abstract: Functional connectivity between habitats is a fundamental quality for species dispersal and genetic exchange throughout their distribution range. Brown bear populations in Northwest Spain comprise around 200 individuals separated into two sub-populations that are very difficult to connect. We analysed the fragmentation and connectivity for the Ancares-Courel Site of Community Importance (SCI) and its surroundings, including the distribution area for this species within Asturias and in the northwest of Castile and León. The work analysed the territory’s connectivity by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The distance-cost method was used to calculate the least-cost paths with Patch Matrix. The Conefor Sensinode software calculated the Integral Connectivity Index and the Connectivity Probability. Locating the least-cost paths made it possible to define areas of favourable connectivity and to identify critical areas, while the results obtained from the connectivity indices led to the discovery of habitat patches that are fundamental for maintaining connectivity within and between different spaces. Three routes turned out to be the main ones connecting the northern (Ancares) and southern (Courel) areas of the SCI. Finally, this work shows the importance of conserving natural habitats and the biology, migration, and genetic exchange of sensitive species. -
