Financed by the European Union. I. Description of the Obstacle 1.1.-Context of Rio Minho Mobility Minho River cross-border area is located between the North of Portugal and Galicia Euro- Region, in the Vigo-Porto corridor, comprising 26 municipalities with an area of 3312km2 and a population of 376000 inhabitants. As a cross-border area, this is the main border with excellent road links, the most permeable border, and also the most densely populated area in the entire Spanish-Portuguese border1. One of the major shortcomings that border municipalities face is transport, which is usually very scarce in these territories, even though they are a key element or facilitator in the achievement of other cross-border cooperation initiatives and projects. -
Escalada Do Sil Tinto
Escalada do Sil Tinto Like many of the wines Alberto Orte makes, Escalada do Sil is a history project. Intrigued by century-old wine writing that described elegant, aromatic reds from Valdeorras, Alberto sought to replicate this style, veering away from the Godello that is the predominant grape now planted in the region. He found an old-vine parcel, terraced because of its almost cliff-like steepness, at the western end of the appellation adjacent to Ribera Sacra. He found a plot to Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet), and Merenzao, the grape known as Bastardo in Portugal and Trousseau in the Jura region of France. With these cool-climate, aromatic red varieties, Alberto knew he could bring this history to life with Escalada do Sil – the Staircase to the Sil. Whole cluster fermented with ambient yeasts, the swirling, shimmering aromatics of Escalada do Sil evoke the mountain reds of old Galicia with sanguine and floral notes and a bright, elegant profile. WHAT MAKES THIS WINE UNIQUE?: A history project from Alberto Orte, Escalada do Sil is a elegant, powerfully aromatic red from a region that has become best known for white wine production. Produced from Merenzao (also known as Bastardo, and in France, Trousseau), Mencia and Garnacha Tintorera, this is a blend that evokes a time gone by, when red wines were favored in the region. The fruit all comes from steeply sloped mountain sites that are terraced, requiring hand harvesting only. -

Salvaterra E As Neves Coñecen Os Tesouros Humanos Vivos Do Miño
Todos eles Tesouros Humanos Vivos do Miño.

Abstract: Compilation and research of 839 basic Galician proverbs (without counting variants) about wine. These Galician proverbs were collected from 282 people or points of information that comment on wine production, preservation, drinking effects, medical use, quality (depending on different production areas in Galicia), pairing to certain dishes, historical distribution of wine by mule drivers (‘arrieiros’) and also about its sacralization and other popular beliefs associated with Galician wine. This article is a tribute to historical and present-day Galician winemarkers and is at the same time trying to explain the socio economic effect of the current international prestige of Galician wines. Keywords: Galician paroemiology, wine, viniculture. -

Connectivity Study in Northwest Spain: Barriers, Impedances, and Corridors
sustainability Article Connectivity Study in Northwest Spain: Barriers, Impedances, and Corridors Enrique Valero, Xana Álvarez * and Juan Picos AF4 Research Group, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering, Forestry Engineering College, University of Vigo, Campus A Xunqueira, s/n, 36005 Pontevedra, Spain; [email protected] (E.V.); [email protected] (J.P.) * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +34-986-801-959 Received: 9 August 2019; Accepted: 14 September 2019; Published: 19 September 2019 Abstract: Functional connectivity between habitats is a fundamental quality for species dispersal and genetic exchange throughout their distribution range. Brown bear populations in Northwest Spain comprise around 200 individuals separated into two sub-populations that are very difficult to connect. We analysed the fragmentation and connectivity for the Ancares-Courel Site of Community Importance (SCI) and its surroundings, including the distribution area for this species within Asturias and in the northwest of Castile and León. The work analysed the territory’s connectivity by using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The distance-cost method was used to calculate the least-cost paths with Patch Matrix. The Conefor Sensinode software calculated the Integral Connectivity Index and the Connectivity Probability. Locating the least-cost paths made it possible to define areas of favourable connectivity and to identify critical areas, while the results obtained from the connectivity indices led to the discovery of habitat patches that are fundamental for maintaining connectivity within and between different spaces. Three routes turned out to be the main ones connecting the northern (Ancares) and southern (Courel) areas of the SCI. Finally, this work shows the importance of conserving natural habitats and the biology, migration, and genetic exchange of sensitive species. -
