    Saverio Clemente Andrea De Amici Luca Targetti Sicilian tenor with a rich and extensive voice, remarkable scenic qualities and an extremely versatile repertoire, Enea Scala is now considered a reference name in the Belcanto baritenor repertoire. After graduating from classical studies, he studied singing at the Conservatory of Bologna and later he specialized with Fernando Cordeiro Opa with whom he is still working. Since his debut in Bologna in 2006 he has ranged from Mozart (Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, La finta giardiniera) to brilliant Rossini, the Italian Belcanto, works such as Il cappello di paglia di Firenze, L'heure espagnole, L’amico Fritz, Die Fledermaus, La Juive/Leopold to get to his first Verdi titles (Falstaff and Traviata). In the belcanto repertoire beyond Bellini (Sonnambula, Zaira, Puritani, Adelson e Salvini) he is particularly interested in exploring the vast Donizetti’s repertoire (from Don Pasquale, Elisir, Convenienze teatrali to Caterina Cornaro, Lucia di Lammermoor, Maria Stuarda, Le Duc d'Albe). A close relationship links him to Rossini: after a debut in the brilliant genre (Italiana, Barbiere, Cenerentola, Il viaggio a Reims/Belfiore, Pietra del paragone) and the experience in Guillaume Tell (both as Arnoldo/Arnolde and Roudi) he reached now his repertoire of choice, starting with Armida/Rinaldo, later with Ermione/Pilade e Pirro and recently with Tancredi, Mosè in Egitto, Semiramide and La donna del lago/Rodrigo. Enea Scala In 2021 he will return at ROF, where he performed before in Tenore Sigismondo, Viaggio/Libenskof, Mosè in Egitto and Occasione fa il ladro.     24 JUNE 2015 CAST AMENDMENT GUILLAUME TELL (Gioachino Rossini ) Due to illness, Spanish tenor Mikeldi Atxalandabaso has withdrawn from singing the role of Ruodi. The role will now be shared between Italian tenor Enea Scala (29 June; 2 and 5 July) and Korean tenor and former Jette Parker Young Artist Ji Hyun Kim (8, 10, 14 and 17 July). Enea Scala makes his Royal Opera debut singing the role of Ruodi. He has previously sung this role for Bavarian State Opera and Munich Opera Festival, and he will sing the role for Geneva Opera in September 2015. His other recent engagements include Don Ottavio ( Don Giovanni ) for São Paulo Opera, Nemorino ( L’elisir d’amore ) in Brescia, Cremona, Como and Pavia, and Belfiore ( La finta giardiniera ) for Glyndebourne on Tour. Ji Hyun Kim was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists programme 2010–12. His roles for The Royal Opera during this time included First Prisoner ( Fidelio ), Gastone de Letorières ( La traviata ), Helenus ( Les Troyen s) and Roderigo ( Otello ). His recent engagements elsewhere include Bastien (Bastien und Bastienne ) at Sejong Arts Centre in Seoul, and Major Domo (Der Rosenkavalier ) for Marseilles Opera.     PRESS RELEASE Venice, 2 July 2019 2019-2020 Opera and Ballet Season and Symphony Season The 2019-2020 Opera and Ballet Season and Symphony Season of Fondazione Teatro La Fenice were presented Tuesday 2 July 2019 by the superintendent and artistic director Fortunato Ortombina, in the presence of the general director Andrea Erri, the artistic head of dance Franco Bolletta, the general director of Fondazione di Venezia Giovanni Dell’Olivo and the head of CTPS Direzione Regionale Veneto Friuli Giulia e Trentino Alto Adige Intesa Sanpaolo, Monica Cristanelli: since January 1, 2019 the group has been a supporting partner of the Venetian Opera House and has renewed its invaluable support of La Fenice’s Opera and Symphony Seasons. The 2019-2020 Opera and Ballet Season will open with Don Carlo: in continuation with the previous openings, Myung-Whun Chung will carry on with his interpretation of Verdi’s works. With direction by Robert Carsen, three interpreters will have their debut in the performance: Piero Pretti, Alex Esposito and Julian Kim. This will be followed by Pinocchio by the composer Pierangelo Valtinoni from Vicenza, one of the most frequently performed living composers worldwide, and the twentieth-century diptych A Hand of Bridge by Barber and Bluebeard’s Castle by Bartòk. In addition to the revivals of La traviata and Il trovatore, Verdi’s so-called ‘popular trilogy’ will be completed with the Italian première of a production of Rigoletto, with production by Damiano Michieletto. The programme continues with Vivaldi’s Farnace, conducted by Diego Fasolis. As regards the French repertory, Bizet’s Carmen will be revived, conducted by Myung- Whun Chung, with Varduhi Abrahamyan and Francesco Meli.

Along with a good crop of new releases, we have a particularly large selection of titles on special offer this month, including hundreds of new reductions from DG and Decca. Before we go into more detail, we need to get the bad news out of the way. As mentioned last month, we have unfortunately reached a point where we need to slightly increase our UK postage charges. We try to avoid doing this too often (the last time was January 2014), but with Royal Mail costs increasing significantly each year, it is impossible to absorb this indefinitely. As most people seem to appreciate the simplicity of a flat-fee charge, we are sticking with this approach, but increasing the amount to £2 and increasing the free-postage minimum to £50. Different companies structure their postage charges in a variety of ways, but we believe we remain competitive and hope to be able to hold it at this level for a number of years to come.
