PARALLEL INTERFACE

Many useful data commun ication devices and assoc iated peripheral equipment maintain communi cation li nkage through para ll el data transmission. Parallel transmission techniques enable these devices to transmit one word (byte) of informati on at a time as opposed to serial transmission techniques In parallel communication, transm itted information is presented on a group of parall el communi cati on wires, each wire correspondin g to a sin gle bit of the transmitted word. Th e Datapoi nt 2200/ Parall el I nterface is designed to provide the most efficient and flexible parallel communication capability to the Datapoint 2200. Users with appli cations in volvin g interface to various types of peripheral equipment or electron ic in strumentation will find the Parall el Interface useful for this purpose.

6 Datapoint 2200/Servo Printer

The Servo Printer contain s a variety of highly desirable data processing fea tures not usually foun d in one printer Th e heart of the printer is a servo-dri ven, rosette shaped, type wheel made of fl exible plastic Thi s type w heel is positioned according to th e character desired and stru ck by a small e lectric hammer against a c loth or carbon ribbon. Thi s straightfo rward constructi o n results in a heavy d uty printer that run s mu ch qui eter than a standard offi ce typewriter and has few moving parts Print quali ty equals or surpasses most standard typewriters and the type wheels ca n be easily changed to accommodate a variety of upper and lower case fonts. Print speed is 30 c haracte rs/second altho ugh the printe rs prod uction rate can be much hi g her than conve ntional 30 cps printers due to an ability to shuttle or slew ' across blank areas. The 30 cps rate appli es to soli d text as the print mechan ism can move at 30 inches per second over blank areas. Using thi s print and slew requi rin g a dot-plotting graphi c functio n w ill fin d this technique. th e Servo Printer can match conventi onal feature usefu l. printers with hi gher print speed ratings Either fri ction Whi le the rugged, simple construction of th e Servo or sprocket feed can be used. Prin ter all ows constant use in standard data processin g Most data processing printers can onl y move o ne work, the exceptional print quality w ill permit the user to c haracter space to the right or left. Th e Servo Printer can apply this device to tasks usuall y requiring a typewriter space as li ttle as 1/ 60 in ch per space givin g th e user an style printer such as text-processing and let ter-typing abi li ty to justify text by inserting fractions of character Th e Servo Printe r plugs directly into the Datapoint spaces at appropriate intervals. 7 Datapoint 2200/Tape Drives 7- and 9-Channel

Th e Datapoint 2200 tape systems offer the 2200 user a complete line to suit his tape storage requirements. Two models are avai lable-9 channel, 800 bpi , and 7 channel, 800 or 556 bpi. Either of these fully industry compatible tapes can be console mounted with the 2200 or free-standing in a separate cabin et. I n either case, the units connect directly to the Datapoint 2200 with no interfaci ng or other adaptors required. Th e tape control unit is included in the cabi net and automaticall y generates vertical parity (VP), a cyclic redu nd ancy check ch'aracter (C RCC), and a longitudinal redundancy check character (LRCC ). Upon reading the tape, the VP, CRCC, and LRCC are automaticall y regenerated and checked. A 1,057 byte buffer provides interm ed iate storage of characters, permitting asynchronous data transfer to and from the deck. Records can be written up to a length of 1,057 words.
