COATESVILLE AREA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1445 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320 11/12 Center - Phone (610) 383-3730 COATESVILLE AREA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 1445 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320 11/12 Center - Phone (610) 383-3730 Michele Snyder, Principal Jeff Colf, Assistant Principal Linda Giles, Interim Assistant Principal Matthew McCain, Director of Activities, Athletics, and Compliance April 8, 2019 Good Morning Parents and Guardians, The CASH is beginning another action-packed week. It is tech week for the cast and crew of “Willy Wonka”. They are gearing up performances on both Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. Tickets are available on line. Please come out and support this wonderful production. In addition, our spring sports teams are in full swing, thankfully, the weather has been cooperating for our teams. Our music classes are rehearsing and putting the finishing touches on their rehearsals in preparation for the upcoming Spring Concert Series which will begin in May. The last marking period is always a busy time. Last week I had the opportunity to visit Mr. Tassoni’s AP US Government class. Students are preparing for upcoming AP exams which begin in May. In this class, students need to write summaries about 15 groundbreaking Supreme Court decisions, cases such as Marbury v. Madison and Brown v. Board of Education. During my time in the classroom, students were working on creating Mnemonic devices to help them to learn the important facts of the case. Students worked together to discuss the key points and to look for patterns to help them remember the key themes. They then worked on multiple choice section of the test, by using released items from past AP exams to test their speed and accuracy in answering. College Board administers Advanced Placement exams nationwide beginning in the month of May. Students in all AP classes are preparing for the upcoming tests. Any student who scores three or better can transfer that course for college credit. Allowing families to save money on college expense. Best of luck to all who are scheduled to take the exams. Mid Atlantic Percussion Society (MAPS) Championships was held at the Intermediate High School with 28 Drumline Percussion Groups competing for the Championships. Schools from Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey competed. Also performing were two Independent groups, Imperial Dynasty from Wilmington, DE and United Percussion and Arts from Vorhees, NJ. Our very own CASH drumline performed in this annual event. Thank you to all the members of the community and parents who helped to make this event possible. With band and spectators, the place was filled with approximately 1500 people, what a great way to show our Red Raider Pride. The CASH Student Council sponsored its Annual Varani Prom Fashion Show on Friday to raise money for the senior prom. The young men modeled the latest in prom formal wear while performing on the red carpet for their peers. Pictured above from left to right: Bodey Shallis, Quill, Lance Brocious, Anthony Boccio, Joe Chimino, Andreas Perry, Ed Easterday, Charles “CJ” Brown, Micah Kranzel, Joseph Hughes. • 2017-2018 Annual Report
The Pennsylvania Basic Education/Higher Education Science and Technology Partnership 2017-2018 Annual Service Report Executive Summary The Science In Motion program sustained bipartisan support by members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and was inserted back into the 2017-2018 state budget after deletion by the Governor. Science In Motion(SIM) was very eager to be able to provide hands-on, inquiry-based experiences to the participating schools in its role as the premier high school science education outreach program for the Commonwealth. Financial hardship of program funding over the past several years has forced many of the SIM host sites to reduce service area size, delay service to schools for several months, or completely stop service before the end of the school year. Of the sites that had science education specialists (mobile educators) from the ten-member colleges and universities, Science In Motion staff members presented over 1,590 hands-on laboratory experiences to 212 different schools. The program also provided an additional 6,206 drop-off laboratory kits for short term loan and offered 13 days of professional development workshop opportunities consortium-wide for over 55 teachers. Overall, Science In Motion provided 470 different teachers with 759 different labs creating 158,320 student experiences during the 2017-2018 school year. What is Science In Motion? Most Pennsylvania high schools cannot afford the modern, well-maintained equipment that it takes to prepare students for today’s modern technological careers in science, engineering and other technical fields. Modern scientific training is especially expensive as it requires multiple sets of equipment so that each student can get a hands-on, inquiry-based experience.
