However, the Leopards couldn’t finish the job in the second half, falling LAFAYETTE STATISTICS HOLY CROSS by a 75-58 score. 3/2 Starters Returning/Lost 4/1 7/6 Letterwinners Returning/Lost 12/3 Lafayette managed just 17 points in the second 20 minutes and went almost nine minutes before 6’5’’ Average Height 6’4” scoring its first bucket, digging a 10-point hole at 53-43. The Leopards worked it back to within six, but the Terriers answered with 22 of the final 33 points to close it out. 194 Average Weight 192 66.6 Scoring Average 60.9 The 41-point first half was the best first 20 minutes for the Maroon and White since scoring 47 77.3 Scoring Defense 63.4 in the first against Moravian on Dec. 19, and was also Lafayette’s first halftime lead since a Jan. 5 win over Army. -10.7 Scoring Margin -2.5 42.8 FG% 43.2 Senior captain Nick Lindner led three Leopards in double-figure scoring with 13 points to go along 46.0 FG% Defense 46.7 with three assists and a steal. Malachi Alexander is one of the more versatile players in the Patriot League, averaging 14.3 points per game to lead Holy Cross offensively. The 6-7, 217-pound forward can score in a variety of different ways, supplementing his play on the block with a 41.3 percent mark from three-point range. Additionally, he paces the Crusaders on the glass, ripping down 5.3 boards per night. Robert Champion and Karl Charles are the others averaging in double-figure scoring for the visitors at 12.3 and 10.0 points per contest, respectively. Last Meeting Look for a defensive game when Holy Cross comes to town as the Crusaders rode their 1-3-1 zone to a Patriot League championship a year ago. Holy Cross averages just 60.9 Holy Cross 71, Lafayette 54 points per night, but forces more than 16 turnovers per game and gives up just over 63 January 11, 2017 | Worcester, Mass. points to its opponents. Lafayette will try to attack on the glass as the Crusaders are getting out-rebounded by just under nine boards per game. LAST MEETING Lafayette began to settle in during the second half, but it was too little, too late in Worcester, Mass. as the Leopards fell to Holy Cross by a 71-54 score on Jan. 11. The Leopards were off for the majority of the night, scoring just 13 points in the first half, their lowest output since putting up 11 at Boston U. on Jan. 9, 2016. The effort was definitely there for Lafayette in the second half as it trimmed what was once a 33-point deficit down to as little as 15 in the final minute, not giving up until the buzzer sounded. The Holy Cross defense was stifling, though, holding the Leopards to 18-of-51 shooting from the field (35.3%) and 6-of-27 from beyond the arc (22.2%) on the night.
