Cindy Gilman, WHJJ Talk Show Host, ESP consultant. Barbara J. Caslowitz, executive director, Israel Bonds. "In reflecting on the New Year, I like to look at this season as a blending of the past and "Being thankful for another beautiful year, and as I look forward to the New Year, I hope the future. I always look at a time of reflection as going over what has been, and the kinds it will be filled with the same enthusiasm. Happiness is not always there, and life is not of goals and plans we can make for things to come. I think letting go of things of the past always easy, but if we're happy within ourselves, it can lead to all sorts of wealth. To my is just as vitally important as making new plans. We have to let go of the old to make room family and friends -- May your hearts and homes be filled with only happiness and peace for for the new and this year not only being an election year, we are where we are. I think it's the New Year." a good time for people to really sit down and take a look within themselves, and see what they can do to plan ahead, even if it's short-term goals. I am a goal-oriented person, and I think even if we work on one specific area or goal to help make our own lives better, and to reach out to others to help others make t heir lives better. So I'm looking at the New Year in a very positive way1"

Harvey Millman, CPA, and Shofar blower' during the High Holy Days at Temple Beth-El for the past 25 years. " I've been thinking about the world, and the increase in violence throughout the world that's been happening over the years. The world has become smaller and smaller, and it seems that violence has increased in proportion to the smallness of the world. I was thinking back to the Holocaust that we Jews were subjected to, and the people in the concentration camps who asked where are the good people, where is help .. . which came eventually, but not in time to save a lot of people. With all the violence going on, I think of the number of holocausts that are continuing in the world today ... the Cambodians, whose children watched their families decimated, the Vietnamese who have gone through a holocaust. T hose who finally got out, arrived here with many psychological problems, looking for help in getting their lives together in a new land. Now that we have the opportunity to give, I've wo ndered how much have we given them in relation to the time we Jews were in the position of asking. I haven't fo und a very comfortable answer. What are we doing for the Asians? What are we doing for those here who have gone through the wars? In my private world, I've been pondering these questions. There was a philosopher who said, 'We live our lives in three phases. The first phase is to learn. The second phase is to earn. The third phase is to give service.' Unfortunately, there are too many people living their lives in two phases. They learn and they earn, but they don't participate in the most rewarding phase of life . . . giving service. There are many refugees who have settled in southern Massachusetts and South Providence, just like we settled there. I was recently asked to do some service, which I was happy to do. We had a conference for the Asian immigrants. Many of them wanted to know how to start a business. I discussed financing. We had a restaurateur and a lawyer talk about how to begin a restaurant. I get so much enjoyment out of this. What I wish for the New Year is that more people participate in giving service, and remembering that they have an opportunity to help those who suffered through holocausts. They will be rewarded greatly. Survivors need help.'' =4' Lola Schwartz, executive director, Jewish Community Center of Rhode Island. "Each autumn, the approaching New Year presents an opportunity to reflect on what one hopes the New Year will bring. For my family and friends, I hope for challenges for the mind, tranquility for the heart, harmony in our homes, mutual caring in our community, and peace fo r us all. L 'Shanah Tovah!" ,
