  • Universe and Inner Self in Early Indian and Early Greek Thought
UNIVERSE AND INNER SELF IN EARLY INDIAN INDIAN AND INNER SELF IN EARLY UNIVERSE ‘The philosophical traditions of Greece and India are divergent but also GREEK THOUGHT AND EARLY show striking convergences. This book is an important and valuable contribution to the comparative study of the two ancient cultures. The various chapters are learned and sophisticated and considerably enrich our understanding of Greek and Indian philosophy.’ Phiroze Vasunia, University College London How can we explain the remarkable similarities between early Indian and early Greek philosophy? UNIVERSE AND Around the middle of the first millennium BCE there occurred a revolution in thought, with novel ideas such as that understanding the inner self is both vital for human well-being and central to understanding INNER SELF the universe. This intellectual transformation is sometimes called the beginning of philosophy. The revolution occurred in both India and Greece, but not in the vast Persian Empire that divided them. How was IN EARLY INDIAN this possible? This is a puzzle that has never been solved. This volume brings together Hellenists and Indologists representing AND EARLY GREEK a variety of perspectives on the similarities and differences between the two cultures, and on how to explain them. It offers a collaborative Richard Seaford Richard THOUGHT contribution to the burgeoning interest in the Axial Age, and is of interest to those intrigued by the big questions inspired by the ancient world. by Edited Richard Seaford is Emeritus Professor of Ancient Greek at the University of Exeter. Let us hope that the month of January turns out better for DXers like Jeff Falconer and Bill Hepburn, both of whom got caught in that terrible ice storm before Christmas that ran from Maine to the midwest. Bill reported about 1.1” of ice covering everything and Jeff had about ¾” of ice on his APS-13. As far as we can tell, no equipment got totaled in that event, which was just plain rain in many areas to the south. We welcome Stephen Parker to the WTFDA. Stephen lives in London, ON and for all we know, he could be Robert Ross’ neighbor. During the period from 11/14 through 12/22 we had renewals from Russel Lay, Bill Nollman, Randall Trapp, Wolfgang Schneiter, Ted Liczewski, Edward MacDonald, Marv Shults, Edward Ritchie, Matt Sittel, Les Prus, Roger Sabella, Chester Jaffee, Tom Bryant and Garth Jensen.

(“Gray”) requests that the Commission cancel the Notice of Apparent Liability (the “NAL”) and proposed forfeiture in this matter. This is a case of mistaken identity. Gray is not the willful and repeated violator of Commission rules that the NAL portrays. Gray’s activities in the Anchorage DMA have fully complied with the Commission’s announced rules and unquestionably have improved broadcast television service to Anchorage television viewers. The NAL seeks to enforce against Gray a rule that, quite literally, does not apply to the transaction under review and proposes an unprecedented penalty for a transaction that was completely lawful. Gray should be lauded, not punished, for the improvements it has made to high-quality television service in Anchorage. Accordingly, the NAL should be cancelled.
