A Message from the Aubrey I.S.D. Superintendent Dear Chaparral Parents & Students, I would like to welcome your children to Aubrey ISD for another school year. We are looking forward to another great year. I know how hard it is to leave the fun of summer behind; however, I also know this year will be educationally and socially rewarding for those students who choose to actively participate. Students are expected to attend school regularly, complete all assignments and behave appropriately. This year will be exciting and filled with many opportunities for growth and fun. We are thrilled to have you as our partner in academics during your child’s most impressionable years. The staff at Aubrey ISD is always available to assist you throughout the school year. As the year progresses, and as you become either more informed or more puzzled, I encourage you to call the school and talk with those who might be of help. If your question deals with classroom activities, homework, etc., please ask to speak to the appropriate teacher. If it deals with the overall program, curriculum or activities, please contact the counselor or principal. Please consider this handbook a valuable guide throughout the school year. The handbook explains in great detail the Aubrey Independent School District rules and procedures along with our expectations for each student. We ask that you also review, complete, sign and return to school the appropriate forms located to the back of this handbook. Completion of these forms is required by state law. Aubrey High School Academic Course Guide 2018-2019 2/1/18 Dear Parents and Students, As you begin the registration process for each school year, we would like for you to take some time to consider the following information. Please remember that the schedule selections you are about to make are extremely important decisions. Each course should be carefully considered and checked with graduation requirements. The course selections for next year, the number of classes available, and the number of teaching positions that will be allocated are all dependent upon the choices that the student body makes during the course selection process. Not all courses listed in this guide are offered each school year. Students who do not complete and return a course selection form will have a schedule arranged for them by the counselor according to their academic need and course availability. Remember to make your course selections carefully. After the school year begins, when students request random schedule changes, classes become unbalanced and overcrowded. As a result, all students are affected. Even the most effective course planning is compromised. Very seldom does one course change affect only one course! In accordance with AISD policy, random schedule changes will not be approved. Schedule changes will only be granted under rare circumstances and with principal approval. It is our desire that all students have a satisfactory schedule. Careful planning and processing of the following course selections will help all students, teachers, administration and parents have a better school year. Greetings Aubrey, America! As we kick off this new school year, I am excited about the many opportunities available to our students and have high expectations, as I’m sure you do. We’ve set new goals to improve academic opportunities for our students and to close the achievement gaps providing all students a greater rate of success. My focused intention is on commitment, collaboration and trustworthiness in order to ensure the most effective learning environment for our children. We recognize that quality education is not merely a destination but a journey. We will continue to challenge ourselves and accept nothing less than every child learning to the best of his/her ability. I also believe we have a diverse group of educators and program sponsors who are capable of connecting with our students and guiding them to success. As our community continues to grow, we will make every effort to improve your child’s educational experience through additional programs, activities, classes and opportunities. As a district, we are also finding new ways to make an effort to reach out more to our parents and our communities. Here at Aubrey ISD, we believe that parent involvement in our schools is crucial.
