A Message from the Aubrey I.S.D. Superintendent Dear Chaparral Parents & Students, I would like to welcome your children to Aubrey ISD for another school year. We are looking forward to another great year. I know how hard it is to leave the fun of summer behind; however, I also know this year will be educationally and socially rewarding for those students who choose to actively participate. Students are expected to attend school regularly, complete all assignments and behave appropriately. This year will be exciting and filled with many opportunities for growth and fun. We are thrilled to have you as our partner in academics during your child’s most impressionable years. The staff at Aubrey ISD is always available to assist you throughout the school year. As the year progresses, and as you become either more informed or more puzzled, I encourage you to call the school and talk with those who might be of help. If your question deals with classroom activities, homework, etc., please ask to speak to the appropriate teacher. If it deals with the overall program, curriculum or activities, please contact the counselor or principal. Please consider this handbook a valuable guide throughout the school year. The handbook explains in great detail the Aubrey Independent School District rules and procedures along with our expectations for each student. We ask that you also review, complete, sign and return to school the appropriate forms located to the back of this handbook. Completion of these forms is required by state law. I want to assure you that we will do our best to help every child experience academic, social and emotional growth. By working together, we will have another outstanding school year. I understand that the handbook contains information that my child and I may need during the school year and that all students will be held accountable for their behavior and will be subject to the disciplinary consequences outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. Printed name of student: Signature of student: Signature of parent: Date: Grade: ________________________________________________________________________ Please sign, date and return to your child’s teacher or the front office of your child’s school. iv Notice Regarding Directory Information and Parent’s Response Regarding Release of Student Information State law requires the district to give you the following information: Certain information about district students is considered directory information and will be released to anyone who follows the procedures for requesting the information unless the parent or guardian objects to the release of the directory information about the student. If you do not want Aubrey ISD to disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your prior written consent, you must notify the district in writing by September 7, 2012. This means that the district must give certain personal information (called ―directory information‖) about your child to any person who requests it, unless you have told the district in writing not to do so. The district is providing you this form so you can communicate your wishes about these issues. [See Directory Information on page vi. for more information.] v The district has defined directory information for district students into two separate categories [see Policy FL(local)]: 1. Items for use only for school-sponsored purposes; and 2. Items for all other purposes. Parent signature Date vi Parent’s Response Regarding Release of Student Information to Military Recruiters Federal law requires that the district release to military recruiters, upon request, the name, address, and phone number of secondary school students enrolled in the district, unless the parent or eligible student directs the district not to release information to these types of requestors without prior written consent.
