LOS VAMPIROS DE MADAGASCAR El siguiente artículo está situado en torno a 2001, durante el gobierno del presidente Marc Ravalomanana Por Magus y Alexander Weiss LA ISLA DE LA LUNA Madagascar (en malgache: Madagasikara), es un país situado en una gran isla situada en el Océano Índico, frente a la costa oriental de África. Se separó del resto de continentes hace unos 80 millones de años, y durante mucho tiempo sus animales y plantas evolucionaron al margen del resto del mundo, hasta el punto que todavía en la actualidad más del 90 % de su flora y fauna son endémicas de Madagascar, no existiendo en ningún otro lugar del planeta. De la misma forma, la isla de Madagascar fue uno de los últimos lugares del mundo alcanzados por la expansión de la humanidad. Quizás fue ocasionalmente visitada hace miles de años, pero los primeros restos de comunidades humanas no aparecen hasta el siglo IV a.C. y sus primeros habitantes se confunden con el mito y la leyenda. No llegaron de la cercana costa de África, sino que afrontaron una larga travesía a través del océano, procedentes de la lejana Indonesia. La llegada posterior de emigrantes africanos también dio lugar a una mezcla heterogénea que constituye los cimientos de la civilización malgache. Posteriormente llegarían comerciantes, esclavistas y piratas árabes y europeos, que se asentarían en precarios asentamientos en la costa de Madagascar. En parte debido a la presión de los extranjeros y también a las luchas de poder, hacia finales del siglo XVIII en Madagascar había surgido un poderoso reino que abarcaba la mayor parte del territorio, pero que a pesar de ello no consiguió hacer frente al avance y conquista del imperio francés. -

4. MADAGASCAR Rakotondramihamina Jean de Dieu 4.1 Introduction Madagascar, an island nation, is situated in Indian Ocean. It was a French colony from 1896 until independence in 1960. It had the good fortune, in the past, to be governed and united under a great sovereign: ANRIANAMPOINIMERINA, who, in the 10 years from 1800 to 1810 succeeded in creating a government worthy of the name. He was succeeded, with varying degrees of success by RADAMA I, RADAMA II, RANAVALONA I, RANAVALONA II, and RANAVALONA III. The last queen was expelled from the country by French in 1895. It has a total area of 592.000 square kilometers with a total population of 14 million, 80 percent of whom live in the rural areas. Moreover, 55 percent of Malagasy people are under 20 age. The ancestor of Malagasy people came from Asia and Africa. Madagascar has 19 tribes which are: Sihanaka, Merina, Antesaka, Antambahoaka, Antandroy, Antefasy, Antemoro, Tsimihety, Bara, Betsileo, Bezanozano, Betsimisarka, Sakalava, Vezo, Mahafaly, Antankarana, Makoa, Tanala, and Antanosy. This implies the existence of different traditions and dialects. However, despite the diversity, Madagascar has a common language namely “ Malagasy Ofisialy”, which constitutes its official language apart from French. Malagasy people are animist. They believe traditionally in only one God “ ZANAHARY”, creator of the universe, the nature and the men. Only 45 percent of the population are Christian. However, there is no border between the two beliefs, since the Christians, Catholic or Protestant, continue to practice the traditional rites. In fact most practice a kind of syncretism with a more or less harmonious combination of monotheism and Ancestor worship. -

Case studies of the queens are provided alongside perspectives on female monarchy, evolving around the link between gender, marriage and succession in their queenly experiences. -

Women’s Access to Political Leadership in Madagascar: The Value of History and Social Political Activism Ave Altius1 and Joel Raveloharimisy2 Abstract Globally, wide gaps exist between men’s and women’s participation in leadership roles. This paper explores women’s access to leadership in Madagascar through an examination of women’s participation in politics and government. Research across the literature found three major reasons for women’s political participation: gender quotas, kinship and societal upheaval. However, upon examining Madagascar, women’s participation in leadership involves factors, which were not fully explored in this literature. The historical legacy of Madagascar and women’s social and political activism were the principal factors in women’s participation in leadership. -
