CARRIED EXEMPLARY PRACTICE - RVS’ NEW MULTI-DISCIPLINARY SUPPORT TEAM Presenters: Director of Learning Greg Roberts, Lead Psychologist Chris Pawluk, Leah Grossmith, Speech Language Pathologist Leanne Love, Autism Support Strategist Jaimie Waugh and Learning Specialist Kelly Gramlich Project Description This fall, the Learning Supports Branch established a Multidisciplinary Support Team (MST), charged with meeting an increasing number of students with complex needs. This team works alongside school teams to provide intensive, direct, highly specialized support to students whose complex needs are unable to be met with traditional supports. Specific focus is given to students who require support for complex communication needs (nonverbal or extremely limited functional language skills). The team is currently comprised of a learning specialist (0.1 FTE), speech pathologist (0.5), occupational therapist (0.5), and autism specialist (0.2). Limited psychology support may be provided as required. The team currently works with eight individual students or 0.04 percent of RVS student population. Best estimates indicate 210 students of 1 percent of RVS’ population have complex communication needs. In the past year limited services were provided through the Student Health Partnership, which is currently be restructured under the Regional Collaborative Service Delivery (RCSD) for Calgary and Area. ___________________ Chair/Treasurer Initials MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE ROCKY VIEW SCHOOL DIVISION NO. 41 REGULAR BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 5, 2015 HELD AT 2651 CHINIOOK WINDS DR. DESCRIPTORS Educational Assessment; Foreign Countries; High Schools; *Needs Assessment; *Program Development; Questionnaires; Secondary Education; *Social Studies; Surveys IDENTIFIERS *Alberta ABSTRACT In 2001, Canada's Alberta Learning embarked on development of a new provincial high school social studies program by conducting a province- wide needs assessment survey. Its purpose was to gather data, input, and suggestions to guide curriculum developers in the development of the new program. A needs assessment questionnaire was the primary tool for gathering qualitative and quantitative data from educational partners and stakeholders. During the needs assessment process, respondents submitted 1526 questionnaires, including feedback from Aboriginal and Francophone respondents. This report enumerates the results, summarizing the areas of concern surrounding the existing high school social studies program, as identified by questionnaire respondents and consultation participants. The report cites as areas of concern: program content; program rationale; curriculum overlap; quantity of curricular content; and skills and processes. It also provides general advice and input provided by questionnaire respondents, and consultation participants, regarding breadth of coverage, depth of coverage, program focus, program content, skill development, two course sequences, learning and teaching resources, and stakeholder participation.

  • Key Messages Prince of Peace Feb 2021
Key Messages Date: March 3, 2021 RE: High School Grad for 2020/21 Issue: • RVS established guidelines for high school graduation celebrations based on three potential scenarios of COVID-19 restrictions. Guidelines promote student, family and staff safety, strive for consistency across RVS high schools and continue to recognize the important milestone within our school communities. The following messages are for schools to use in their communications to students, parents and staff until a scenario is confirmed. These can also be used by RVS to respond to inquiries from other stakeholders. Position: • We are excited to celebrate our RVS high school graduands this spring. We do not know yet what this will look like, but we are working hard to find ways to acknowledge our students’ achievements. The safety of our students and staff continues to be our priority and all RVS celebrations will follow government direction at the time. Key Messages: • We are currently working through a few scenarios that would allow recognition of our graduands while following health guidelines and restrictions. • High schools will follow the same RVS graduation ceremony guidelines to provide our students with a similar graduation experience across the district, while providing opportunities for each school to be creative and recognize their unique school community. • We have heard from our RVS families that in-person ceremonies are preferred. Given current Alberta Health Services (AHS) indoor/outdoor social gathering restrictions, in-person ceremonies would not be possible at this time. We will hold off on making a final decision on ceremony format for a little longer to see how the pandemic and restrictions evolve.

April 1, 2011 Alberta teachers and principals honoured for inspiring students Edmonton... Alberta teachers and principals are being honoured as semi-finalists for the province’s teaching awards for inspiring Kindergarten to Grade 12 students and for their contributions to the teaching profession. This year, 135 semi-finalists are being recognized as part of the 2011 Excellence in Teaching Awards. They were selected from 326 eligible nominations. “Teachers make a valuable and lasting contribution to the lives of their students, and to the province as a whole. The Excellence in Teaching Awards program is our way to say thank you for a job very well done,” said Dave Hancock, Minister of Education. “I applaud all nominees for using their creativity and innovation to motivate students to succeed.” Award nominees must show leadership, demonstrate creativity and innovation, work collaboratively with colleagues, and create positive learning environments that motivate students to excel. &nbspNominations include statements of support from the nominee’s principal or superintendent, a teacher colleague and a member of the public. Semi-finalists and award recipients are selected by a committee made up of representatives from the education community. The program recognizes semi-finalists across the province at regional celebrations. In addition, semi-finalists can access up to $1,500 for professional development. From the 135 semi-finalists, 23 award recipients will be selected and honoured in Edmonton on May 28 at a dinner and awards ceremony. Twenty award recipients will be able to access up to $4,000 for professional development, while three teachers who receive the SMART Technologies Innovative Use of Technology Awards will receive a comprehensive technology package, which includes a SMART board.

With the site ready, the design process is set to begin in the new year. Additional Transportation Fees Approved Transportation fees are on the rise. Following a fierce debate at its Nov. 14, 2019, public meeting, the Board of Trustees voted in favour of introducing additional student transportation fees of $308/student, applicable to riders who attend their designated school and live 2.4 kilometres or further from the school. The decision was made to offset a $1.4 million shortfall in the student transportation budget, resulting from the province's elimination of its Transportation Fee Replacement Grant.
