She is also principal conductor and music director of the São Paulo Symphony, where she continues to steer highly creative programming and outreach activities. She leads the ensemble in a tour to Asia in 2019 with two concerts at the Hong Kong Arts Festival and three European tours featuring performances at major summer festivals including the Lucerne Festival and in Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Salzburg, and Vienna. In September 2019 she becomes chief conductor of the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony. Ms. Alsop made her Philadelphia Orchestra debut in 1990. She conducts the world’s major orchestras, with recent and forthcoming European highlights including the Gewandhaus, Royal Concertgebouw, and Budapest Festival orchestras; the London and philharmonics; the Danish National and London symphonies; and the Orchestre de Paris. In the US she regularly conducts the Cleveland Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony. Ms. Alsop is the recipient of numerous awards and is the only conductor to receive the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship. Her extensive discography has led to multiple Gramophone awards and includes Naxos cycles of works by Brahms with the London Philharmonic and the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony, a Dvořák series with the Baltimore Symphony, and further recordings for Decca Classics, Harmonia Mundi, and Sony Classical. She is dedicated to new music, demonstrated in her 25-year tenure as music director of California’s Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music. She attended Yale University and the Juilliard School. Her career launched in 1989 when she was the first woman to be awarded the Koussevitzky Conducting Prize from the Music Center, where she was a pupil of Leonard Bernstein. 32 33 Soloist

Lisa-Marie Mazzucco Itzhak Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. He made his solo debut with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1965 and his conducting debut in 1999. His long history with the ensemble includes recording Tchaikovsky’s Violin for EMI in 1978 and performing with Emanuel Ax and cellist Yo-Yo Ma at the opening of the Kimmel Center in 2001. He has performed with every major orchestra and at venerable concert halls around the globe. In 2015 President Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, for his contributions to cultural endeavors and for being a powerful advocate for people with disabilities. He received the 2016 Genesis Prize in recognition of his exceptional contributions as a musician, teacher, advocate for individuals with special needs, and dedication to Jewish values. In 2003 he was granted a Kennedy Center Honor in celebration of his contributions to the cultural life of the US. President Clinton awarded him the in 2000 and President Reagan honored him with a Medal of Liberty in 1986. The 2018-19 season marks the 60th anniversary of Mr. Perlman’s US debut and appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, which took place on November 2, 1958. This milestone was celebrated with a return to the Ed Sullivan Theater on November 2, 2018, in a special guest appearance on The Late Show with . In February he appeared at Carnegie Hall with Yoel Levi and the Israel Philharmonic. In May he debuts a new program entitled “Evening with Itzhak Perlman,” which captures highlights of his career through narrative and multi-media elements, intertwined with performance. A four-time Emmy-Award winner and recipient of 16 Grammy awards, Mr. Perlman was honored in 2008 with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Recent recordings include a Warner Classics album featuring him and pianist exploring masterpieces by Bach, Schumann, and Brahms; a bonus track on the original cast recording of the Broadway revival of ; and three releases celebrating his 70th birthday in 2015.
