Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, or Kindle Fire HD 8.9 This free service is available exclusively to patrons of the Pittsburg Public Library. Use these instructions if you have: A Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, or Kindle Fire HD 8.9. The browser for the Kindle Fire HD is not compatible with the Magic Wall, so books will have to be checked out using a computer. Transfer checked out ebooks from your computer to your Kindle for reading. Helpful Info: For a Kindle Fire you must use a computer (desktop or laptop) to create your accounts and check out the books. Then use your ereader or tablet to access and read the books you have checked out. Step 1: Create an Axis 360 account using your Pittsburg Public Library card. 1. To get started visit: http://ppl.axis360.baker-taylor.com from a computer. 2. Type in your library card number without spaces. The PIN number is the password associated with PPL Library Card Number/ Axis 360: your PPL account. If you do not have your PIN number, you will need to visit the library or call 620- 231-8110. Pin Number: 3. Once entered correctly, you will be logged in and can check out e-books. Step 2: Install the Blio app to your device. Blio software is used to read library e-books on smartphones and tablets running iOS or android. It can also be used on Windows computers. Download & Install Blio to your device: Installation instructions specific to the Kindle Fire are attached to this handout. When you open Blio, you will be prompted to create Blio Username: your Blio account. This is separate from your Library card number and PIN. Please write down the user name and password that you created. The library cannot access this Password: information in the future. Step 3: Search for ebooks on the Axis 360 Magic Wall. 1. Login to at: http://ppl.axis360.baker-taylor.com or link from the PPL website. 2. Browse the Magic Wall to see featured and recently returned items. 3. Search for titles using the search bar or browse the collection by clicking the “Browse by Subject” button. 4. When you find what you want, make sure to select the Blio format & click “Add to Checkout List.” 5. If the title is checked out, you may reserve it by clicking Place on Hold. Provide an e-mail address to be notified when the title is available. The item will be held for 3 days. Step 4: Checkout the item(s). 1. Click “My Checkout List” in the upper right corner of the Axis 360 website. 2. If you choose to do so, you may set the lending period for less than two weeks. 3. Click “Confirm Checkout” at the bottom of the page. You will be prompted to provide your Blio user ID and password. Step 5: Transfer the item(s) to your device. Once you checkout the item using your Blio account, simply open the Blio app on your device and it will automatically be downloaded. Just click on the book cover to read. The home button is the option in the lower left that looks like a house. In the upper right of the screen, you will see the settings icon. It looks like a star burst or circular gear. Touch this icon. Select the option that says “More.” In the next screen, you should see a list of options. Select the option for “Device.” In the next screen, select “on” for the option to “Allow Installation of Applications for Unknown Sources.” Next it is time to download the app. Go back to the Fire’s home screen. Click Web at the top right. Type in the following URL: http://bits.blioreader.com/update When the page loads you will see several file options to click on. Choose the link named KNFB Blio 3.0.1 PROD.apk. After you do this, you should see a number in the upper left of the kindle fire. Touch this area. After touching that area, you should see the KNFB Blio 3.0.1 PROD.apk downloading. Once the orange bar finishes going to the right, the download will be complete. Touch where is says “KNFB Blio 3.0.1 PROD.apk Download Complete.” The next screen will list the permissions the app requires. Click on the word “Install” in the grey area under the permissions. You should then see a line that says “Installing…” After it finishes it will say “Application installed.” Select the option for “Done” at the bottom of the screen. Press the home button on the Fire to go back to the home screen. You should see the icon for Blio in your carousel at the top. Touching this icon will start up the app. Or you may select the Apps option at the top of the Fire screen and you will see Blio available. Launch Blio app Log in with your Blio ID Blio will sync with your Book Shelf and bring in purchased titles and borrowed items from Axis 360.
