Barium in stream sediments

Barium (Ba) shows a slightly right skewed log the baryte deposit of Brunndöbra, the bary te veins distribution. Its maximum amounts to 3330 mg/kg, west of the Bergen granite, the d eposit of Grünberg Hainichen whereas the v alues of more than 1000 mg/kg north of Augustusburg, and an area NW of the Aue- constitute less than 1 % of the total. The minimum is Bärengrund deposit, where bary te was observed in 10 mg/kg. The arithmetic average is 138 mg/kg, and debris during stream sediment sampling. Lower Project supported by: the median is 90 mg/kg. The element is mainly elevations of Ba > 160 mg/kg characterise the related to baryte–fluorite vein mineralisation. gneiss cupola of Schwarzenberg, the baryte–fluor ite Absolute concentrations are possibly deposits of Langenstriegis, Niederschlag- Freiberg underestimated due to limited solubility of Ba in Bärenstein, and the area NW and SW of Oelsnitz aqua regia used for the analyses. dominated by Devonian sediments and volcanics . Areas of high concentration (Ba > 400 mg/kg) form The lowest concentrations of barium Dippoldiswalde an arc between the Freiberg district and (Ba < 40 mg/kg) characterise the granites of Dippoldiswalde where barite mainly accompanies Eibenstock, Kirchberg, Fichtelgebirge, Markersbach, the exploited polymetallic and Sn deposits as the gneisses of the southern central Erzgebir ge gangue. Apart from this arc, a circular area of 3 k m between Sayda and Marienberg, and areas of diametre with elevated Ba coincides with fluorite Cambro-Ordovician metasediments east of the and baryte veins NW of the Marienberg deposit in Westerzgebirge complex deposit and southwest of the central Erzgebirge. Further Ba elevations mark the Eibenstock granite.
