Essa pesquisa documenta o processo de concepção, criação e desenvolvimento do projeto gráfico de um livro com ilustrações referente às descrições da criação na mitologia nórdica baseado na primeira parte da obra Eddas em Prosa de Snorri Sturluson “O Gylfaginning”. Fundamenta o conceito de mitologia, bem como sua relevância na sociedade, explorando e resumindo a narrativa dos deuses na mitologia nórdica apresentando as runas, elementos pictóricos presentes nessa mitologia. Descreve a pesquisa e desenvolvimento da metodologia e do projeto gráfico, abordando aspectos técnicos do design e o estudo de composição visual. Apresenta o processo de produção das ilustrações e do protótipo, caracterizado como livro com ilustrações, nomeado Eddas, como referência ao material fonte. Palavra-chave: Livro com ilustrações. This document presents the process of conception, creation and development of a graphic design project of a book with illustrations that describe the period of creation at Norse mythology based of the first part of the Prose Edda, of Snorri Sturluson, “The Gylfaginning”. Fundament the concept of mythology, as well its relevance in society, exploring and resume the narrative of gods in Norse mythology and presents the runes, pictorial elements presents in this mythology. Describe the research and development of methodology and graphic project, approaching the technical aspects of design and the study of visual composition. The Well Kyung-nam Kim* <Abstract> The well is meaningful to many cultures in that it is a specific place where we obtain drinking water, a type of energy that enables the growth of all living things on Earth. In this study I discuss the symbolism of the well, especially as it relates to fertility and birth, its role as a mediator between consciousness and the unconscious, and its power of healing and regeneration. In particular, I explore the appearance of the well in dreams and cases from sandplay therapy in order to understand the Jungian process of individuation. Introduction The water well has a special meaning in many cultures as it provides human beings with drinking water, which is essential for maintaining life. Wells have been dug since the Neolithic Era (approx. 10,000 - 4,500/2000 BC), when the first permanent human settlements were established in the Near East. In Korea wells were first mentioned in historical literature from the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period (108 BC - 300s AD); however, archaeologists have dated the first wells to the Mumun pottery period (1500 - 300 BC), sometimes labeled the “Korean Bronze Age” (Kwon, 2005), when complex societies originally developed on the Korean peninsula. Thus the well has been integral to the rise of urban populations in human history.

    THE PROSE EDDA SNORRI STURLUSON (1179–1241) was born in western Iceland, the son of an upstart Icelandic chieftain. In the early thirteenth century, Snorri rose to become Iceland’s richest and, for a time, its most powerful leader. Twice he was elected law-speaker at the Althing, Iceland’s national assembly, and twice he went abroad to visit Norwegian royalty. An ambitious and sometimes ruthless leader, Snorri was also a man of learning, with deep interests in the myth, poetry and history of the Viking Age. He has long been assumed to be the author of some of medieval Iceland’s greatest works, including the Prose Edda and Heimskringla, the latter a saga history of the kings of Norway. JESSE BYOCK is Professor of Old Norse and Medieval Scandinavian Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Professor at UCLA’s Cotsen Institute of Archaeology. A specialist in North Atlantic and Viking Studies, he directs the Mosfell Archaeological Project in Iceland. Prof. Byock received his Ph.D. from Harvard University after studying in Iceland, Sweden and France. Þetta er hinsvegar misskilningur á innihaldi, svipað og þegar dvergar í sögnunum merkja lágvaxið fólk í stað þess að merkja óþroskaðar sálir. Í íslensku hefur nafnorðið ginn háleita merkingu, samanber ginn -heilagt. Orðið stendur fyrir óskýranlegt guðlegt eðli eða innihald ofar Æsum, Vönum og ofar allri upphafinni birtingu. Orðið hefur svipaða merkingu og tat í Sankrít sem merkir „ÞAГ— sem er svo heilagt að merking þess dvínar við að vera nefnt. Mjolsnes, B. A. Fairbanks, Alaska December 2008 2 Abstract Iceland surrendered political control to the Norwegian monarchy in 1262, but immediately resented their choice. The sagas about reliance on the Norwegians, clearly illustrating that the Icelanders knew where this path was leading them. Gísla Saga is a particularly interesting text to examine in light of the contemporaneous political climate, as it takes place in the years leading up to the conversion but was written between the conversion and the submission to Norwegian rule. Though Gísla does not explicitly comment on either the conversion or the increase in Norwegian influence, close examination illuminates ambiguity in the portrayal of Christian and pagan characters and a general sense of terminal foreboding. This subtle commentary becomes clearer when one reads Gísla Saga in light of the story of Ragnarök, the death of the gods and the end of the Norse world. Characters and images in Gísla Saga may be compared with the events of Ragnarök, the apocalyptic battle between the Æsir and the giants, illustrating how the Christian conversion and Norwegian submission brought about the end of Iceland’s golden age by destroying the last home of the Norse gods.

KOZÁK Charles University Abstract The article explores the idea of an echo, both literal and structural, that connects Old Norse cosmogony and eschatology. The motif of a bellowing sound or cry appears in cosmogony in the figure of Ymir, ‘Crier’, who is killed by the Æsir, and from his body the world is cre- ated. During the eschatological events the booming sound recurs when Heimdallr blows his horn shortly before the Æsir themselves are killed by their adversaries. A cry is also emitted by Óðinn when he sacrifices himself on the Cosmic Tree. The booming bellow is thus associated with death, especially in the context of implicit or explicit sacrifice. The structural resonance between cosmogony and eschatology is composed of a series of five motifs that reappear in the same sequence at both liminal moments. The eschatology seems to be structurally a repetition of the cosmogony, but with inverted roles: the victims are the gods, and the sacrificers are the giants, which is the inverse of the situation during the cosmogony. The present analysis sheds light on the sacrificial pattern hidden behind the two events, and helps contextualize the motif of the mighty sound that reappears at both moments in cosmic history.     Völuspá - The prediction of the prophetess Old Norse and English versions with commentaries It is also supplemented, after the poem, by historical indications on Verden massacre and citations of Gautrek’s saga and Refutes 19 argument claiming a Christian influences, all due to academic specialists. Here is an nth translation of Völuspá, a poem of poetic Edda. It is essentially different from the others in that it provides information on the suspicions of Christian influences associated to one or another of its stanzas ... and that it shows that, most often, these so-called suspicions are based on commonalities of words used in very different contexts in Völuspá and in the Christians texts supposed to have been inspiring it. On ‘Christian influences’ It is clear that all the manuscripts of the poetic Edda were written in a social context where being Christian was compulsory and paganism banned. Their content has thus been more than less overseen by Church authorities. Looking for ‘Christian influences’ in these texts is to behave as a supposed civilization carrier sifting the good Christian wheat from the pagan chaff. Colonizers mistreated ‘prime’ civilizations in good conscience in the name of the intellectual superiority of European thought. Modern commentators looking for Christian influences in Eddic texts mistreat them by challenging their authenticity. For example, the myth of ‘Baldr’s death’ is classically supposed to have received a Christian influence due to his ‘obvious’ similarity with Christ and Frigg’s cries? Indeed, Frigg cries for her bloody son. And his father also mourns his son - all this can reflect a Christian behavior.

Since Heathenism has a highly developed moral code, it stands to reason that it also spoke of the consequences of leading a life in accordance with or in opposition to its own moral standards, yet according to popular belief there is no mechanism for that to happen — primarily because Snorri’s Edda doesn’t mention a court to judge the dead or any reward for leading a pious heathen life; warriors go to Valhalla and everyone else goes to Hel, a dreary, dismal place. Do the sources of Heathen belief confirm this view? Fáfnismál 10 informs us: því at einu sinni “For there is a time skal alda hverr when every man fara til heljar heðan. shall journey hence to Hel." Fáfnismál unequivocally states that all men eventually travel to Hel. It names no exceptions. Other sources confirm that in heathen times, the way and its features were well known. Gylfaginning 49 (A. Broedur tr.): “Frigg spoke, and asked who there might be among the Æsir who would fain have for his own all her love and favor: let him ride the road to Hel, and seek if he may find Baldr, and offer Hel a ransom if she will let Baldr come home to Ásgard." And later in the same narrative: “…Now this is to be told concerning Hermódr, that he rode nine nights through dark dales and deep, so that he saw not before he was come to the river Gjöll and rode onto the Gjöll-Bridge; which bridge is thatched with glittering gold.
