Our newest staff member, Jewish believer Lynn Wein McCoy, recently started a Facebook Cooking show called “Taste of Wein.” Intertwined with her cooking show, Lynn always takes a few moments to share about her faith in Jesus the Messiah. With a bit of promotion the shows have already amassed just under 20,000 views. If you wish to see Lynn's past videos, they are archived here: https://www.rockofisrael.org/tasteofwein/

Lynn writes:

When I first began my ministry thirty-three years ago, I was told I wasn’t very creative. I didn’t realize until years later that I am actually very creative, but in ways that differed from my coworkers. I didn’t understand that had been anointing me all this time with gifts that He desired me to use.

When I began in ministry at twenty-six years old, I had no idea how to cook or bake. Sure, I cooked with my mom, but not really on my own.

Fast forward to 1996. I had been transferred to the Washington, DC area. Our home has always been open to lots of guests and lots of food! We began having Shabbat dinners with many unbelievers attending, and the McCoy house became the place to be. My tiny house became very crowded, and was I getting a reputation!

One day, my old ministry supervisor asked if I could do a cooking class once a month, and we began to invite both the people we were ministering to, and others in our Jewish community to attend. It was a small intimate group, which lent itself to spiritual conversations. I had such fun teaching people to enjoy the process of creating food.

Then came Covid-19 and I started with Rock of on June 1, beginning right where I left off. Although I've switched to an online cooking show, to lead our people into the knowledge of God. The world is so dark right now, but together we can shine His light, even in the midst of this crazy pandemic! *Note: Lynn's cooking show is uploaded weekly on Rock of Israel's Facebook page."

More Jewish Email Objections

3 of 12 7/31/2020, 2:33 PM Firefox https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/dashboard/home/

We wanted to share a note we received last month from a Jewish man (probably in Israel) and our response to him. Objections like his are fairly common and we hope this section helps give you insight in witnessing to your Jewish family or friends.

Name: Israel Message: Not a single Jewish Sage identified Jesus as the Messiah. God Is The Source Of All Salvation, And He Doesn't Need To Have Any Human Sacrifice To Die For Mankind's Salvation. all of humanity can be "saved", by following God's commands, and living a Righteous life. The Rabbis, whom Jesus hated so much, did not place any limitations on G-d’s love. It was the Rabbis of the Talmud who made the statement (Tosefta, Sanhedrin 13), “The righteous of all nations have a share in the World to Come.” They saw God’s love as available to all people, and not only to , and has nothing to do with Jesus.

Hello,

We received your reply and wanted to take a moment to respond to your email.

We would respectfully disagree with you about several issues.

1) Isaiah 53 (in the ) is strongly looked at as about the Messiah. Our Jewish sages point this quite often – although they do not believe Yeshua was the Messiah. But if you read Isaiah chapter 53, you will clearly see that the Messiah dies for the nation of Israel as a sin bearer.

2) If all of humanity followed God’s commandments 24/7/365 maybe your point could be valid, but the fact is they do not. All

have sinned before God. As the Hebrew Bible says, “Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.” (Ecclesiastes 7:20). So when there is a contradiction between what you say and what the Hebrew Bible says, we will probably stick with the Hebrew Bible.

3) Yes, we agree that God loves the world. But God is also Just and Holy and must punish sin. (see point 2 above). That is why, if you are familiar with Torah, there were blood sacrifices for all the nations on Sukkot. The blood sacrifices were a central feature of the Temple in Jerusalem. Why? Because it was an innocent one paying for a guilty one with their blood.

This is what Isaiah 53 and other scriptures point to.

Yeshua is indeed the Messiah. The rabbis are wise in some areas and not in others. In this area – our people have missed the Messiah. That is why the exile happened 2,000 years ago as Moses predicted.

We urge you to take some time and read for yourself why Yeshua is the Messiah. Also, look to your own heart and see it is not perfect (none of us are) and that is why blood atonement was given to our people according to Torah.

Shalom in Messiah, Doug Rock of Israel Ministries Fairfield, OH www.rockofisrael.org

The Sound of the Spirit Written and directed by Messianic Rabbi, Michael Wolf, this must-see film follows Rivka, a twelve-year-old Jewish girl who is caught in the crossfire of strong feelings between two faith communities. As a Jewish believer in Jesus, Rivka and her father attend a Messianic Jewish congregation in their community. This story gracefully shows the subtle opposition that many Messianic Jewish people have to face even - and sometimes especially - from our own families.

Rabbi Wolf's movie is now online for free viewing, Between the two sites it is listed on, over 400,000 people have already accessed the movie. To watch a short 2 minute preview click here: PREVIEW NOTE: YouTube may play a short commercial before the preview. This is now common, and does not benefit Rabbi Wolf or Rock of Israel in any way. A) TRUE B) FALSE

This Month's Jewish Humor During one of the days of creation, God turned to the angels and said: "Today I am going to create a land called Israel. It will be a land of mountains full of snow, sparkly lakes, forests full of all kind of trees, high cliffs overlooking sandy beaches with an abundance of sea life." God continued, "I shall make the land rich so to make the inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants Israeli, and they shall be known to most people on earth." "But Lord," asked the Angels, "don't you think you are being too generous to these Israeli's?" "Not really" God replied, "just wait and see the neighbors I'm going to give them."

What is Tisha B'Av?

Tisha B’Av is a day of mourning for the Jewish people. On this day, the ninth of Av, a series of major tragedies of the Jewish people occurred including the destruction of the first and second Temples. Greg Savitt writes more about this:

9 of 12 7/31/2020, 2:33 PM Firefox https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/dashboard/home/

I imagine you have never heard of the Jewish holiday named Tisha B’Av. This holiday is one of the most serious and somber holidays of the year. The literal translation is “the Ninth of Av.” "Av" is the 11th month in the Jewish calendar. This year it just fell on sundown Wednesday, July 29th to sundown Thursday, July 30th. The purpose of Tisha B'Av is to commemorate the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem 586 B.C. and A.D. 70, respectively. Rabbinical tradition holds that both happened on the 9th of Av. In addition to remembering the destruction of the Temples, on the Ninth of Av, Jewish families commemorate the heinous atrocities of their expulsion from England in 1290, their forced conversion during the Spanish Inquisition in 1492, and their horrific persecution during the Holocaust of World War II. Regarding the Holocaust, on August 2nd, 1941 (the 9th of Av), “the Final Solution" was approved by Nazi Germany. On July 23rd, 1942 (the 9th of Av), the Nazis began the mass deportation of Jews to Treblinka, a concentration camp where between 700,000 and 900,000 Jewish people were exterminated. The number of Jewish people killed at Treblinka was second only to Auschwitz. Can you see from history why this is such an oppressive day for Jews around the world? Jewish people fast without drinking for 25 hours on the day of Tisha B’Av, starting the night before the holiday and ending the evening of Tisha B’Av. Nine days before the holiday, a Jewish person is not permitted to eat meat, as this food is only for special occasions. The last meal before the holiday, the person cannot eat two cooked foods or anything containing wine. It is forbidden to bathe or wash, cut one's hair, apply ointments or creams, engage in marital relations, wear leather footwear, send gifts, greet one another, engage in outings, trips, pleasurable activities, or wear beautiful or festive clothing.

Furthermore, Jews are not to engage in Torah study

10 of 12 7/31/2020, 2:33 PM Firefox https://app.constantcontact.com/pages/dashboard/home/

because the Torah gladdens our hearts and is a source of pleasure. Therefore, it is forbidden on a day of mourning. Other customs include sitting on low stools or on the floor as a sign of humility and visiting cemeteries as an observance of grief. In 22 years of Messianic ministry, we halted our evangelistic endeavors on Tisha B'Av. It was inappropriate to share the gospel on such a somber and weighty occasion. During my first year as a Jewish evangelist, I tried to share the gospel on that day, but I was severely shunned and vilified by my Jewish people for having the audacity to try and "convert" them on such a horrible day in Jewish history. This treatment was much worse than the abuse I would get on an average day of sharing with the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel. As for all believers, Jew and gentile, Tisha B’Av can be an occasion to identify with the tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people throughout history. Some may say Jewish believers see no need for a Temple because Yeshua (Jesus) is the final sacrifice for sin. Then the question is, why would they still find value in Tisha B’Av? The answer is to identify with Jewish people's sufferings, even as Yeshua did. Romans 12:15 says: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.”
