Hills, the former Under-23 Head Coach and senior team assistant who took charge of England's opening World Cup 2015 qualifiers, will be responsible for producing a clear pathway for elite female players. He will oversee the England teams at U19, U17 and U15 level as well as the female Centre of Excellence programme and will report into Dan Ashworth, The FA's Director of Elite Development. Hills' task is to set out a vision and philosophy for the women's game that will allow us to produce world-class players and coaches to ensure England teams can regularly compete on the world stage. He said of his new role: " am delighted to be taking the post of Head of Women's Elite Development. "My experience in long term player development and international coaching will help me work with all those in elite player development to improve the quality and quantity of female international players over time. "I am very much looking forward to working with the new Senior Head Coach and his international staff in order to support the senior squad." This appointment is the first of many in a new elite women's unit. The second sees former England striker Spacey become Assistant Women's Coach and Coach Developer. As well as working alongside Sampson, Spacey will take charge of the Under-23 team and will focus on coach development to help increase the number of female coaches at the highest level and support coach development across the women's game. Spacey, who scored 28 goals in 91 internationals, said: "This is a huge opportunity for me. "I think my various roles are really important for the future of women's football in this country and I am really looking forward to the challenge. "The prospect of working with two different England squads really excites me, as does helping any female player that wants to become a better coach, because we need more female role models across the game." Ashworth added: "I'm delighted that Brent and Marieanne have accepted their roles. "Brent has extensive international experience both at youth and senior level and he has played a critical role in the women's game for a number of years. "His new role is a massive one long-term and it needs somebody who really understands the women's game and we believe Brent is the right person to meet the demands. "Marieanne is a former England player who has come up through our coaching system, she was an FA Skills Coach and she has worked a lot on the coach education side of the women's game." FA Director of Football Development Sir said: "Mark, Brent and Marieanne have already spoken and they are all extremely excited by the prospect of working together. "We believe they will complement each other and mix really well to take the game forward at every level and build on the good work that has gone before." Hills and Spacey will begin their new roles in January 2014. [email protected] Northern Division Preston North End are back up into the top four after they defeated Newcastle Utd 2-1 on Sunday. After Jess Havelock had hit the bar with a header for Newcastle early on, it was Preston who took the lead on 27 minutes when Gemma Watson scored with a spectacular 25-yard strike. Newcastle were back on terms just six minutes later, Havelock was the provider as her header from a corner was swept home by Beth Gardner for her ninth league goal of the season. The game was settled in Preston's favour just after the hour mark, leading scorer Melissa Ball also making it nine for the campaign after being set up by Watson. Southern Division Portsmouth continued their gradual climb up the Brighton’s Renee Hector heads the ball away from table with a 2-1 victory away to Brighton & Hove Charley Wilson of Portsmouth (www.jamesprickett.co.uk). Albion which takes them up into fourth place, just ahead of their opponents. All of the goals came in the opening twenty minutes, Mollie Kmita marked her debut for the Seagulls by giving them the lead after six minutes with Leeta Rutherford equalising via a long range strike and Lucy scoring what proved to be the winning goal.

Nottingham Forest Ladies FC have re-organised their structure at the Club's AGM. Elected Chairperson PJ Andrews is no stranger to the club after being involved up to 2008, when she took a break due to family commitments, and is keen to help shore up the club's status. PJ said: "It's well documented that the club is going through a period of transition due to an unsuccessful Women's Super League bid and the subsequent withdrawal of support from NFFC. The impact has been significant both financially and on morale but after a number of meetings and full consultation, the will to work from all managers, staff and players across all teams has been the inspiration to continue. The club has a commitment to nine teams and a community project for this season and the priority is still to secure funding for their support. "Due to resignations from the previous committee, it was important to have experienced people in positions that will benefit immediately. We have nine people on the committee now as opposed to five, plus all the managers and coaching staff, and I want to encourage more involvement rather than less. The spirit is tight and we are getting to fully understand our areas of expertise. "Ultimately we are working on the urgent short term strategy but have to look at enhancing the resource and building more positive relations with longer term partners to ensure longevity.

[email protected] The club now has five months hard work ahead to assess further, and key decisions will be made in due course as the results of that work transpire in the best interests of all. We have to thank those whom have invested so far and hope the results on the pitch are a just reward as well as the wider impact on individuals. Incredibly, all teams are performing well across the club and that is full credit to the managers, coaches, support staff and players and is part of the inspiration to invest our personal time to support them." Newly appointed Club Operations Manager, Steve Gray added: "I am very pleased to come on board as Club Operations Manager, I have been working with the club as a volunteer since late August 2012 and have been involved in fundraising and helping enhance the media profile of the club in that time. "Now I am hoping to help Nottingham Forest Ladies FC work towards its long term future. I'm confident that with investment and the great core of volunteers, players, coaches and parents that this can be achieved." Fay Glover, Club Secretary, commented: "Forest Ladies has such a positive place in the women's and girls footballing community that it would be a significant loss to see any demise. Its hard work with so many challenges but we are all committed to do our best to support our players and managers and maintain an enjoyable and developmental experience as the club has had for the past 23 years." [email protected] New England Head Coach Mark Sampson has named his first squad, for January's training camp in La Manga. The former Academy boss was appointed Head Coach earlier this month and he will run the rule over 30 players in the warm climes of southern Spain in the New Year. , , , , and have all received their first senior team call up while Dunia Susi, Corinne Yorston, Gemma Davison and return to the fold. Sampson said: "We've got lots of new faces in the squad and that gives me a good opportunity to see where we are at and will help me make some decisions as we move forward. "It is a training camp, it's important to emphasise that. The door is fully open for every player. If they perform well for their club and they show that they want to play for England and do well then they'll have a great opportunity to be involved in future squads." The early-year camp in La Manga has become an established part of the England women's calendar and this year it takes on extra significance with a friendly match scheduled against Norway on Friday 17 January, the new coach's first match in charge. Sampson added: "All players and coaches want to play games. I'm really excited to play a game. It's a full international but we have to be realistic as to where we are as a group at that stage. "The important thing for me is to get to see the players in a football match. I'm delighted we've got the opportunity to play a game." will miss the training camp because of injury while and Jess Clarke are the other absentees from England's last matches, the double header against Wales and back in October when they recorded 2-0 and 4-0 victories to keep up their perfect record in their FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying group. After La Manga, England will once again compete in the annual Cup in March, having won the competition last year, beating Canada in the final. They will entertain in April in the first World Cup qualifier of the year. [email protected] FA Women's Super League Champions Liverpool have announced the signing of star winger Gemma Davison at . Gemma joins the club from Arsenal, where she progressed through their Centre of Excellence before achieving a regular place in the first team squad. She also played in the Women's Professional Soccer League in the USA with a variety of clubs including New York Magic and Buffalo Flash. She rejoined the FA WSL and the Gunners in March 2012 following the breakdown of the WPSL's 2012 season. After the announcement, Gemma said: "I am excited to embrace a new challenge with Liverpool Ladies and I am delighted to be a part of the squad that will be defending the title. There are so many talented players here that I am looking forward to playing alongside." Manager Matt Beard added: "Gemma is a fantastic signing for us; she is a strong, talented player who has a great deal of experience and knowledge of the game. "Her addition will add strength to the team, which will be vital for us going into a challenging season and the Champions League." Gemma is the second new arrival for the Champions following the signing of England under-19 full back Martha Harris.

Arsenal have completed the signing of England international keeper Siobhan Chamberlain from Bristol Academy, with long term No.1 also signing a new contract with the club. Chamberlain is an experienced stopper, with 26 caps for the Three Lions. Last term she was selected in the Super League Team of the Year, as well as being voted Bristol's Players' Player of the Year. A consistent and reliable last line of defence for the Vixens over the past three years, Siobhan is the only Super League player to have played every minute of every game since the league's inception in 2011. She joins Byrne at the Club to add experience and competition to the Ladies goalkeeper department. Now in her 13th year as Arsenal's first choice keeper, Byrne has helped the Gunners to 11 league titles, nine FA Cups and, in 2007, the UEFA Women's Cup. The 34-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in 2013, conceding just three goals in the final 10 games of the Super League campaign. A Republic of Ireland international, she also reached 100 caps for her country in September. General Manager Vic Akers told www.arsenal.com: "We're really pleased to be both welcoming Siobhan to the Club, and extending Emma's contract. The pair are both talented, experienced keepers and I know they'll provide valuable competition for each other in the seasons ahead." Chamberlain said of her arrival: "I'm really excited to be signing for such a massive club, in Arsenal. The club have got a fantastic history and so many talented players, including Emma of course. I'm looking forward to working with her, and think the competition between us will help push us both on, as we prepare for the 2014 season. "Making the decision to leave Bristol has not been easy, the close knit family nature of the club from the staff through to the brilliant Smurf Army has made my time in Bristol incredibly enjoyable. The achievements the club has made in the last three years and its continued development both on and off the pitch is a marker of just how well run and supported Bristol Academy is. "I would like to thank the club, the players, former manager Mark Sampson and SGS Principal Kevin Hamblin for their support during my time at the club and would like to wish them every success for the future. "I'm looking forward to returning to Stoke Gifford next season and I'm sure the Smurf Army will be extra noisy behind my goal!" Byrne added: "I'm delighted to have signed an extension to my contract. With Siobhan's arrival we're looking really strong in the goalkeeper area. I'm looking forward to working with her in the coming months." After falling behind early on, Pompey hit back with two excellent finishes in an even first period. The Seagulls bombarded the visitors goal for virtually the entire second half but were frustrated by a combination of outstanding goalkeeping from Sadie Blakely, the woodwork twice and brave defending by the Pompey back four. Brighton had three players making their debuts and two were quick to make their mark. Toni-Anne Wayne was busy in goal as Pompey started the brighter but it was Mollie Kmita who stole the honours with a neat finish at the far post to give Albion the lead on seven minutes. Albion then had claims for a penalty when Blakely challenged Kate Natkiel for Kate Natkiel hurdles a tackle from Tiff Taylor a loose ball in the area but nothing was given. (www.jamesprickett.co.uk). Leeta Rutherford had aleady gone very close for Pompey and despite a nasty collision with a post in the attempt, she was soon back, notching the equaliser with a fine 30-yard effort which dipped over Wayne on 13 minutes. Both teams looked capable of scoring as play switched quickly in an exciting opening period. Sophie Perry had a shot blocked for a corner by Lauren Murphy and the hosts threatened from both wings. However it was Portsmouth who made the breakthrough via a deep Jess Frampton cross from close to the corner flag which was met by a well controlled header from Lucy Quinn back across goal on 20 minutes. Rutherford nearly extended the lead after winning possession from an Albion short goal kick, but her lob cleared the bar. Quinn had two free kicks fom distance both held by Wayne as Portsmouth headed to the break with the advantage. The visitors went close again on the restart as a cross flew through the six yard box and an effort from the resulting corner was cleared off the line on 49 minutes. That was virtually the last threat posed by Pompey despite Charley Wilson and Gemma Hillier's tireless efforts to occupy the Brighton defence. Play was concentrated increasingly in front of Blakely's goal as both teams rang the changes in personnel. Natkiel was becoming more influential on the right, racing clear to draw a good block by the Pompey keeper on 66 minutes. Long range efforts from the hosts were generally off target and it was from crosses that most danger arrived. Rebecca Thompson-Agbro had a powerful header saved by Blakely's tip onto the post whilst Murphy made a goal saving block from a close range drive from a left wing cross. Sub Charlotte Owen went very close from 20 yards on 78 minutes as Albion dominated. As the game moved into its final minutes, Albion did everything but equalise. A long range Natkiel free kick flew low across goal and away to safety from the upright only to be returned high, forcing Murphy into a headed clearance which was acrobatically tipped away as it looped into Blakely's goal for a match winning save on 89 minutes. Portsmouth's defence, marshalled by Murphy and the experience of Fiona McMillan who gave an outstanding display after recently returning from two seasons absence through injury, held out well against a Brighton team who had performed with great energy and attacking intent but just could not find the finish to match their approach play. Brighton & Hove Albion: Toni-Anne Wayne, Mollie Kmita, Sophie Perry, Kirsty Barton, Renee Hector, Rebecca Thompson-Agbro, Yasmin Poole, Lily Agg, Kate Natkiel, Rosie Kmita, Tammy Waine. [email protected] Wolverhampton Wanderers' victory against Studley in the Birmingham County Cup may not have been their most important match of the season, but for one member of their squad, it was one of the most significant matches of her career. Becky Hall made her competitive comeback after having been out with a serious knee injury since the end of last season. The former England Under-23 international appeared for the last twenty minutes in the win over Studley in the centre of midfield (pictured) and she told Women's Soccer Scene about her frustrations whilst out injured and fears over whether she would ever play again. "The last few months have been really tough mentally," admitted Becky. "It's been hard watching from the stand, although I have tried to keep myself busy helping the people behind the scenes with the tea making and stadium announcing! "When I initially injured my knee, I wasn't even sure what I had done, which was probably the most frustrating thing. I had my operation in October where the surgeon effectively told me I would struggle to ever play again, which only made me more determined to get back. "I've trained twice with the team and managed to get a twenty minute run out in the County Cup and I was absolutely buzzing [afterwards]. I am nowhere near ready for competitive league action as my knee still can't quite withstand high intensity pressure but I am hopeful that in the new year I will be back and giving my all for Wolves." To make matters worse, Wolves are currently at the foot of the Northern Division and have sorely missed the 25-year-old, who has played in the FA WSL for Doncaster Rovers Belles as well as Lichfield Diamonds and Birmingham City. Although she has only just set foot back on the pitch, Becky revealed that she was kicking every ball during Wolves' recent 5-2 league victory over Newcastle Utd. "I followed the Newcastle game on our club's account and until we had a two-goal cushion, I couldn't stop refreshing my twitter timeline!" she laughed. "It's even more stressful watching than it is playing. It was a fantastic result for us and hopefully that will act as a catalyst to go on for the rest of the season. We are a much better team than our league position suggests."

Spanish striker Laura Del Rio has committed to Bristol Academy on and off the field in a deal which sees the player take on a new role as Under-18 head coach. The 16-18 youth programme is based at SGS College in Bristol where players are able to combine training with education at the elite facility. Bristol Academy's 2013 FA WSL squad featured 11 players who had attended SGS College which highlights the strong youth development link between the Under-18s and first team squad. Club president and SGS principal Kevin Hamblin said: "We are delighted that Laura is staying with us for next year, and she will be taking a more active coaching role with our 16-18s." Del Rio, who has played professionally in Germany and America for Frankfurt and Boston Breakers respectively, added: "Bristol Academy have given me the opportunity to play and coach at the same time and at a very good standard. “Bristol is a big family - it reminds me to my days in Valencia. Here I feel important for the team. I'm excited for the challenge and look forward to introducing some Spanish skills to the youth team." [email protected] Scotland's venture in the four team Brazilian tournament has ended in three narrow defeats, two of them against top ten ranked countries. 's side went into the tournament on the back of four straight Women's World Cup qualifying victories but in their first match against Canada, they were without first choice central defenders and , meaning that had to slot into the centre alongside Eilish McSorley. put Canada ahead within six minutes, but Scotland captain prevented from extending the lead when she saved her penalty at the end of the first half. However the Canada captain - and all time leading goalscorer - was not to be denied, and marked her 200th appearance for her country with a second half strike to seal a 2-0 victory for her side. Next up for Scotland were tournament hosts Brazil and they were boosted by the arrival of City captain Corsie in the starting line up. and were also introduced with McSorley, and making way. Brazil enjoyed the bulk of the possession and forced a corner in the opening minutes but couldn't get a shot away. Scotland were beginning to settle and see more of the ball, just as Brazil scored the opening goal. Cristiane picked out Marta, who raced clear of the Scotland defence and sent a low shot past Gemma Fay on 26 minutes. Brazil's taliswoman then turned provider, whipping a cross into the Scotland area, where Debinha was lurking to prod the ball home from close range. Debinha caught Scotland off guard to grab her second goal after the break. She latched onto a long ball out of defence and raced into the area to lift the ball over Fay. Scotland increased their possession and it paid off as they pulled one back in some style. Andreia Suntaque blocked Leanne Crichton's effort and the ball found its way to who took a touch on the edge of the area and curled a terrific strike into the top corner. Scotland continued to press forward with twice going close but they could not make another breakthrough and Brazil ran out 3-1 winners. The final group match was against Chile and Scotland were unlucky to come out on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller. This time Jennifer Beattie had joined up with the squad after club commitments with Montpellier and she returned to the defence with taking over from Gemma Fay in goal. Leanne Ross made her 100th appearance for her country. Both sides traded chances early on but it was Chile who tok the lead on the twenty minute mark. Maria Rojas got on the end of a defence splitting ball out of midfield and raced clear to send a low shot past Lynn. Scotland were level within three minutes though. went on a marauding run down the right and crossed for Jane Ross, who beat her marker to flick the ball high into the net. Christie Murray put Scotland ahead with five minutes left in the half. Hayley Lauder sent in an inch perfect pass from the halfway line and Murray got in front of her marker to score. Play went from end to end in the second half but it was Chile who struck next. Francisca was first to react when a free kick was whipped into the area, flicking the ball into the net. Chile then raced into the lead with two goals in four minutes. Araya got on the end of a cross into the area to fire into the net, before Saez blasted in a shot from close range. Both sides continued to create opportunities, before another Scotland substitute scored the last goal of the game. With eight minutes remaining, Sarah Crilly picked up the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed a terrific effort to beat Endler. [email protected] Northern Combination Mossley Hill are set to lead the table going into the holiday break after they defeated Middlesbrough 4-2 to go three points clear at the top. Carla Lee notched a brace with Kaisha Sohl and Megan Brodie adding the others as Mossley avenged their defeat to 'Boro earlier in the season. Tranmere Rovers are starting to climb the table and are just outside of the top half following their 4-0 success away to Sheffield Utd Community, their fourth victory in five matches, goals coming from Becky Smith, Kate McDonnell, Danielle Sheen and an own goal. Midland Combination In the one match to be played in the league on Sunday, Loughborough Students battled out a 2-2 draw with Leicester City Women which leaves the sides in fourth and second place respectively. Adele Sale and Alice Kempski were on target for the students, while City replied through Katie Lowder and Jade Formaston. South East Combination C & K Basildon stormed back to the top of the table by scoring nine without reply against Luton Town. Jenny Brown-Wealls and Nicola Carty each hit doubles and the tally was completed by Charlie Dolby, Sara Sinclair, Karissa Rodney, Amy Nash and Zoe Rushen. Dons kept themselves in the title race as they ran out 5-0 winners over Brentwood Town, their fourth league victory in a row. Leah Cudone, Heather McDonnell, Emily Mann, Eden Washington and Ellie Butterwick were all on the scoresheet to help keep the Dons in third place. City have still dropped less points than any of their rivals at present and they maintained this record by beating Cambridge Women 2-1, Kate Parsons and Chelsea Garrett scoring their goals. Kaisha Sohl was one of the goalscorers in the win against 'Boro and she told Women's Soccer Scene about the confidence flowing through the squad and how she believes the Merseyside-based team can go all the way and win the league: Were you pleased with the team’s performance in beating Middlesbrough on Sunday? I was pleased with our win against Middlesbrough on Sunday, the pitch wasn't the best due to the weather and it could have been a bit scrappy at times, however we fought for the whole 90 minutes and came out with the result we wanted and needed. Was it ample revenge for your defeat by ‘Boro a couple of months ago? When we played Middlesbrough away a few months ago we were beaten by a goal scored by them in the last minute, which was unlucky. We played really well in that game and deserved to get something from it so it was frustrating when they scored with less than a minute to go. We were definitely out on Sunday to get the three points, the same as we are every week. The win against Middlesbrough was your tenth in thirteen matches, how high is the confidence within the team now? The confidence within the team now is very high as we are doing really well this season and have been top of the league for the past few weeks now. We've been playing some good football and we definitely want to stay up there for the rest of the season. Is there genuine belief amongst the team that you are capable of winning the league? I think we are capable of winning the league this season, I think all the girls believe we can too. If we carry on playing the way we are then I think we are well in with a chance. Was there a particular result or performance that convinced you that you could be amongst the challengers? We have come away with some good results against the top teams in our league, which has been very good for our confidence. I think with the way we began playing and the results we got at the start of the season made us believe we are good enough to be amongst the challengers. There are still a number of teams in with a chance of the title, who do you think is most likely to stay in the running? I think the team most likely to stay in the running is Chorley. They were consistent last season and they have been this season also. They are a good team with a strong side and I think they are likely to stay near the top this season. This week you travel to Chester-le-Street, who beat you earlier in the season. Do you see this match as another big test of your title credentials? We never underestimate any team in the league - I think every team we come up against is a massive test. We didn't feel we were at our strongest when we played Chester-le-Street earlier this season and that result doesn't reflect how we've been playing since. It will be a test on Sunday but so is every game. What would it mean to you and the club if you can win the league this season? I think it would mean a lot to me, the girls and the club if we were to win the league this season. It's our first year under the new management and new players coming into the team so it would prove that the changes made have been positive. It would show that the hard work everyone has put in all season has paid off as we have pulled together as a team this season and it's showing with the way we are playing. [email protected] Cheltenham Town Ladies Football Club have come up with an unusual but innovative way of finding a new kit sponsor for their team. It may sound like an unlikely combination – a women’s football team and a campaign to remove naked photos from page 3 of a national newspaper, but the South West League side are determined to make this the outcome. The Olympics were a huge event for British sport and many women took centre stage with inspiring performances. It was during this time that Lucy Ann Holmes noticed that the biggest image of a female in The Sun newspaper was the topless girl on page 3 rather than any of our winning female athletes – and this was on the day that Jessica Ennis had just won gold! Lucy set up the No More Page 3 campaign soon after, asking the Sun to voluntarily drop this old fashioned institution because ‘boobs aren’t news’. So far 126,000 people have signed their petition and their t-shirts with their striking logo are famous, being worn by celebrities and even by an MP in the House of Commons. Cheltenham's aim is for this logo to be on their kit and for No More Page 3 to be the sponsors of their club. To make their partnership with No More Page 3 possible, they will need to help them raise enough money to pay for a new kit for the team and to emblazon the No More Page 3 logo on the front of their shirts – the cost price of this is £2,025 and there’s a web page to make donations at https://www.justgiving.com/local/project/nomorepage3CTLFC. The campaign has caught the attention of both local and national media and they have already reached their funding target - and then some more! With three weeks left to go, they have raised in excess of £8,500 and the figure is growing all the time. Joanne Lenton, who captains the club's Development team, said: "If just 200 people give us £10 each, we can achieve our goal and the campaign logo will travel with us all across the South West of the country every match day. Through this we hope to highlight the work of No More Page 3 and show our support for their goal. "Sometimes to change attitudes you just have to do something different which is what this would be. Many clubs are sponsored by their local plumber or building company and whilst there is nothing wrong with this we want to do more. We want to be sponsored by a message and show everyone that by working together with active sportswomen like us, and our supporters, campaigns such as this can really work.” This will be the last issue published ahead of the holiday break. The next edition of Women’s Soccer Scene will be produced on Thursday 9th January 2014. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us! [email protected] Cardiff Met Ladies had a great day as they went five points clear at the top of the Shared Access Welsh Premier Women's League. The league leaders notched up an important 5-2 victory against one of their title rivals, PILCS. Emily Brown gave Cardiff Met the lead midway through the first half, before Ellie Curson struck twice leading up to half time. PILCS rallied after the break and got themselves back into the game when Amy Thrupp and Lyndsey Davies scored but Curson steadied matters as she completed her hat-trick and Emily Allen wrapped up the win with the fifth goal. Cardiff Met were further boosted by the news that second placed Cardiff City FC were beaten for the first time this season, 3-1 at home to Llanidloes. Kate Thomas was the hero for Llanidloes as she scored a hat-trick to take her side up into third place, before Danielle Green grabbed a consolation for City. Swansea City consolidated themselves in fifth place by scoring eleven times without reply against Caernarfon Town. Emma Beynon opened the scoring in the eighth minute with Sara Llewelyn and Ria Hughes adding further goals before half time. services of Colin Walker. Colin will be joining the club as manager Rick Passmoor’s assistant. Colin and Rick have both worked in football for a considerable time, first meeting when Colin managed Rick in his playing days as a centre half. The pair have worked in similar roles ever since, Colin helping out Rick last season with Lincoln Ladies, but only on a part time basis. Colin’s experiences spans over more than three decades of playing and coaching, becoming not only an international defender, but a well respected coach within both the male and female games. The prospect to join Rick at Notts County was one Colin jumped at. "I’ve coached all my life and when Rick offered me the opportunity to come and join him it was just too good of an opportunity to turn down,” he said. Colin has a long history in football, both playing and coaching, and brings with him an outstanding knowledge of the game. A knowledge which manager Rick does not underestimate: “Colin’s knowledge of the game is not just outstanding, but impressive. His input will contribute a huge amount to this football club.” Colin Walker made many appearances in his playing career, both domestically and internationally, appearing for the New Zealand national team. Domestically, he also played for a number of top clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster. Colin’s coaching career has been just as fruitful as his playing career, taking up many roles at Barnsley, including coaching the first team, as well as the centre of excellence at Doncaster and the acclaimed youth academy at Leeds United. He is not only well versed in the male game but also the female game, mainly with Leeds United, but more recently Colin assisted Rick at Lincoln Ladies last season. "Last year, when I helped out at Lincoln, it could be quite frustrating as it was hard to get the team altogether at once, with the team being part time. Now at Notts with their full time set up it’s a great opportunity to develop the squad. “We’ll get to work day by day with the team, and this is valuable. I’ve known Rick a long time and I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work with him again.” The partnership is something Rick Passmoor is also looking forward to, saying: "Colin was a well established and respected player, and is now an equally well established and respected coach within the game, in both male and female football. His work last year with Lincoln was very helpful, but to have him on board full time with Notts is massive for us and I can't wait to get going." Michelle takes Yeovil job Yeovil Town Ladies FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Michelle Yeowell as Reserve Team Manager. Michelle, who has been Assistant Reserve Team Manager since the start of this season, succeeds long time Reserve Team Manager Andy Dickinson, who stood down earlier this month due to work commitments. Yeowell has an impressive background as she is a UEFA B licence coach, currently works at Somerset FA Centre of Excellence as a head coach and is the England Colleges Coach through her work with the Bridgwater College Women's Football Academy. Commenting on the appointment, Michelle said: "I am extremely proud to accept the role of Manager for the Yeovil Town Ladies Development Squad. The opportunity to work in the FA WSL Development League will undoubtedly enhance my own coaching skills and development. I've been involved with the squad for several seasons as a player but now I'm looking forward to the challenges being Manager will bring and starting the second part of the season at the end of January." Yeovil's Head of Football Operations, Sarah Lawler added: "Michelle is a very talented and committed coach who will really develop the group of talented and enthusiastic players we have in the Reserves team. The FA WSL Development League is all about bringing through young talented players in the club and supporting them to aspire to play first team football and I have no doubt that Michelle's dedication in this role will pay off in seeing some players make that step in our first WSL season." Lord Mayor boosts Forest fundraiser Nottingham Forest's efforts to raise much needed funds were boosted recently due to preparation and planning for their 'Every Penny Counts' Fundraising event held recently at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall. The event attracted 150 of its members on the night but contributions from members, supporters and sponsors before the event culminated in amassing a total of £3,274. [email protected] The evening was enhanced with the presence of Merlita Bryan, the Lord Mayor of Nottingham whom hosted the raffle and went on to mix with all those in attendance. Whilst it was a club effort to progress the event organiser, Amanda Thorley (Under-10s Manager) was pivotal in the success of the evening. Amanda reflected: "On behalf of Forest Ladies I have to thank everyone who has contributed to supplying prizes, selling raffle tickets, event tickets and donations. I'd also like to thank the John Godber Centre for the free hire of the room and staff for the event alongside our DJ, Danny Charles who offered his services free of charge. "Forest Ladies has been running for 23 years since the 1990-91 season and has offered so much to so many in the community. The funds raised will contribute to maintaining their status for this year and it has been a pleasure to help." Forest Ladies has nine teams from Under-9s to the Seniors and also co-runs the Radford Girls Footy Project. The amount raised for this event will afford the club further breathing space to survive until the latter part of the season and will help cover pitch hire and some training facility costs. The club are continuing their fundraising with help from the West Bridgford Branch of Marks and Spencer on Saturday 21st December who are allowing club members to garner donation in a bag packing event. All proceeds will be fully utilised to secure status for this season whilst planning for a sustainable future in the process. Steels keep up good Cup run The draw for the Third round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup has kept the three strongest sides still in the competition apart, which will come as a huge relief to East Midlands League Premier Division leaders Steel City Wanderers who have reached that stage by overcoming Combination outfits Sheffield United Community and Rotherham Utd. Steels won through 5-4 on a penalty shootout after their tie with Rotherham ended 2-2. Jade Tilling put Rotherham ahead in the first half, but Lucy Smith levelled three minutes into the second half and despite Steels having more pressure, the game entered stoppage time with the score locked at 1-1. Cheryl Mawhood put Steels ahead to seemingly decide matters, but within a minute Rotherham had responded with Natalie Shaw equalising to take the tie into extra time. Also winning through after a penalty shoot out were Sheffield Rangers (vs Socrates) after a 4-4 draw whilst Edlington Royals won 4-1 at Anston. The Second Round featured two all-North East League ties. Megan Simmons scored for Handsworth who beat Rovers Foundation 1-0 and Premier Division Barnsley edged Southern Division Millers Ladies 5-4. Laura Burgess (2), Jess Burton (2) and Danielle Green netted for Barnsley with Jenna Bramley and Bradie Wild both scoring twice for Millers. Staveley MW were the round’s highest scorers, winning 11-0 at home to Mexborough thanks to a hat-trick from Carly Rowlands plus braces from Sasha Lowe, Lauren Hardy, Billie Gordon and Karla Burton. Sheffield Utd Community Res won 2-1 at Thorne Utd, while Hemsworth beat Dearne & District 5-0. Women's Futsal fever! Last week saw the success of our first ever Women’s Futsal Festival for players in Further Education, thanks to students from Oxford and Cherwell Valley College. The 16-19 age group is a specific target for Oxfordshire FA and we are delighted to be part of this Futsal Festival which aimed to increase participation in female football. This particular festival was run by students from Oxford and Cherwell Valley College planned and delivered a successful event. When speaking with the main organisers of the event, Louis and Jack, they stated that their main objective was to raise awareness of the female game across Sixth Forms and Colleges. “We stumbled across a few issues with teams dropping out but we were happy with the number of teams overall. It would be great to see so many females taking part and we would love to run one again and get more teams involved.” This kind of event helps raise awareness of the game in a fun and friendly environment. The festival is aimed at providing recreational, social, fun activity for students in Further Education. The tournament was set out in a league format with the top two teams playing in a close contested final. Feedback from these players was also fantastic, with comments such as ‘high tempo’, ‘challenging’, ‘well organised’ and ‘enjoyable’. Oxfordshire FA would like to thank the Colleges that entered the event and also a special thanks to the students at OCVC for their hard work and commitment in making the event a success.
