In front of a large and vocal crowd, Derby started the game well but the London & South East League side settled down and Roschelle Shakes twice went close to giving them the lead. The pattern of the game continued in the second half Fran Ferrari and Shakes having opportunities but in the 62nd minute, Palace took the lead when a good move involving Jade Davenport, Kirsty Mitchell and Shakes was finished off by Jenny Kikomeko. With just under fifteen minutes remaining, Kikomeko cut in from the right and crashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net to seal a famous victory for Palace, who will now be at home to Portsmouth. Plymouth Argyle striker Emily Mousley takes on Brighton & Hove Albion came through a Cally Beaumont of Brighton & Hove Albion (David Potham). potentially awkward tie away to Plymouth Argyle with a 4-0 victory under their belts and they now travel to the to play Coventry City. Cally Beaumont went close to giving the Seagulls an early lead but on the 25 minute mark, Tammy Waine did open the scoring through a superb long range strike which found the top corner. Laura Perrett hit the bar for Argyle shortly afterwards and Jodie Chubb also struck the post early in the second half, with Kirsty Barton having a shot cleared off the line at the other end and Charlotte Owen hitting the woodwork from distance. However Brighton were not to be denied and Barton finished off a good team move to double her side's lead and two minutes later, Rebecca Merritt put them further ahead with a well struck left foot shot. Paula Howells forced a fine save from Michaela Phillips but Brighton rounded off the scoring five minutes from time, Kim Whitcombe following up to score after Barton's free kick had come back off the post. Blackburn Rovers ended the Cup hopes of Middlesbrough by beating them 3-0. Evie Manning gave Rovers a first half lead and the striker went on to complete a good day for her and her side after the break, netting twice more to complete a hat-trick. Blackburn will now be away to Reading Women, who won 2-1 away to Millwall Lionesses with goals from Lauren Bruton and (see match report). Two teams with title aspirations in the Premier League met each other and it was visitors Gillingham who emerged as 1-0 winners over Nottingham Forest. A well contested tie was decided by a first half penalty from Charlotte Gurr and the Gills will now be at home to the winners of the tie between Preston North End and Yeovil Town. The other Third Round tie to be played was at Charlton Athletic where Sheffield FC ran out 6-0 winners to book themselves a Fourth Round trip to Durham Women (see match report). Bradford City and Blackpool Wren Rovers finally played their Second Round tie at the sixth attempt with City scoring seven times without reply. Sarah Danby was on target twice along with Rachel Lee, Abby Hunt, Charlotte Stuart, Rebecca Kendell and Molly-Mae Sharpe adding the others for Bradford who will now be at home to Cardiff City Ladies. [email protected] Cardiff City Ladies remain on top of the Southern Division but were held to a 1-1 draw by mid-table Lewes. The sides had met two weeks earlier with Cardiff winning 1-0 on that occasion and they went into an early lead when Beth Lloyd broke through and rounded Michelle Beazley to score her sixth league goal of the season. This time, the Rookettes hit back and levelled the scores ahead of the break, Nikki Payne finding the net with a far post header from a Kelly McCullock cross. In the second half, Cardiff forced a series of corners but Lewes stood firm and held out for a well earned point. The result means that Cardiff now head the table by a point from Gillingham, who have a game in hand, with Coventry City and Portsmouth still on the fringes of the race. On Wednesday night, Portsmouth drew level on points with Coventry as they ran out 3-0 winners over Brighton & Hove Albion. The decisive moments came either side of half time, Pompey taking the lead through Gemma Hillier's flick on 41 minutes and in injury time, they doubled their advantage when Gemma Simmonds headed home a cross by Charley Wilson. Portsmouth scored the third just two minutes into the second half, Lucy Quinn breaking through before burying a powerful left foot shot. [email protected] The FA is delighted to confirm this season's FA Women's Cup Final will be staged at Stadiummk, home to League One side Milton Keynes Dons, on Sunday 1st June. The showpiece match, which will kick off at 4.30pm, will be broadcast live on BBC Two for the second successive season. The FA Girls' Youth Cup Final will take place at the same stadium earlier in the day (1pm kick off). It will be the fifth FA game to be held at Stadiummk, following three Under-21 victories, against Bulgaria, Azerbaijan and Finland in 2007, 2009 and 2013 respectively. Brian Eastick's Under-19 side defeated Russia 3-1 in Milton Keynes in 2008. Vice Chairman of the FA Women's Committee, Elaine Oram, said: "We thank Milton Keynes Dons for agreeing to host what is traditionally the biggest and most high profile women's match of the season. "We were impressed with the enthusiasm they showed to stage the Final on our behalf and we are sure they will do a magnificent job. "And to once again have the support of the BBC is absolutely fantastic. They broadcast all three of Women's home World Cup qualifiers last year and we look forward to more excellent coverage of women's football throughout 2014." Tickets for the Final will go on sale on Friday 21st February.

Chelsea are delighted to announce the signing of Dutch- born attacking midfielder . The 19-year-old has joined from German side FCR 2001 Duisburg and will bolster manager Emma Hayes' attacking options for the new FA Women's Super League, which gets underway in April. Groenen was born in the , lived all her life in Belgium but has represented Holland at youth level and is currently deciding which country to represent on the senior stage. Despite her tender years the midfielder, who can also operate in a wide attacking role, has already played 55 times in the German Bundesliga, scoring 14 goals in the process. "I want to develop my game and the opportunity at Chelsea gives me the chance to live my passion and play and train with top players every day," she said. "I am confident that together, the team and I will achieve our goals and I am excited to be joining the FA WSL for a new start in my young career. "The set up at Chelsea Ladies, the club, team and the staff are the ideal fit for me and have the same high standards I expect. I am looking forward to getting started." Chelsea will begin their season with an FA Women's Cup Fifth Round tie on Sunday 13th April, before kicking off their league campaign away to Bristol Academy on Thursday 17th April, with the first home game against defending champions Liverpool three days later. The teenager is manager Hayes' seventh signing of a busy winter, having already completed deals for English quartet Rachel Williams, Laura Bassett, and as well as Sweden's Emma Wilhelmsson and South Korean playmaker Ji So-Yun. Hayes said: "Jackie is a talented young player who fits our playing style. She is very technical and very composed in possession and has a lot of experience for someone so young having played in one of the top leagues in Europe in Germany. "Jackie has impressed us and I'm sure she will be a good addition to the group." Blackburn Rovers have secured the services of rising star until the end of the season. Keira has spent six seasons with Rovers' Centre of Excellence and now makes the step up to first team football. The 16-year-old has enjoyed a stunning start to the year - making her England Under-19 debut in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Norway at the end of January, before bagging a hat-trick for Rovers' Under-17s in their FA Girls Youth Cup quarter final victory over Sunderland earlier this month. Rovers' interim manager Gemma Donnelly, who coached Keira at Under-14 level, was delighted to capture the starlet's signature. She said: "We are looking forward to having Keira with us until the end of the season and we hope that she's not sucked into the development squad of a Women's Super League team, where her talent would be wasted. "She's had experience of the technical element of the game and now she needs experience of the physical element of the game and we feel that Blackburn Rovers can provide that, given the league that we play in. "She will remain involved in Centre of Excellence football, as well as with the Ladies, and there are some big games coming up for both teams, including a Cup final, FA Women's Cup fourth round tie and FA Girls Youth Cup semi final, as well as a jam-packed league programme to catch up on and picking up points is our main priority. "Keira will play in a team that has a multitude of internationals, including English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish, but we are confident she will rise to the challenge and take her football to the next level. "It is testament to the Centre of Excellence for producing these young players and the strong link we have with the Ladies team that we can offer the most talented individuals in youth football the opportunity to play the highest level of women's football in a winter league. We hope that more players from the Centre of Excellence can follow in her footsteps." The midfield playmaker, who was vice captain of the England Under-17 side that competed at the UEFA Championships in December, will be part of the Rovers squad for this Sunday's Premier League clash at home to Sheffield. [email protected] Millwall Lionesses 1 Reading Women 2 Reading Women came from behind to progress to the Fourth Round of the FA Women’s Cup at the expense of Millwall Lionesses at Meridian Sports Club. The victory was also a first for new Reading Women boss in her management debut in a competitive match. This battle of FA WSL 2 rivals was highly committed and played at a frantic pace on a 3G surface conducive to passing football. The match was decided by a superb finish from Francesca Kirby with around fifteen minutes to go to win a tie in which Reading always had the edge in attacking fluency but were denied by resolute defence from the Lionesses, particularly in the second half. Angela Kiobel battles for the ball with Lauren Bruton The home team had started strongly and had (www.jamesprickett.co.uk). created good chances in an even first half. Emma Whitter had rattled Nicky Davies' post before giving Millwall the lead on 24 minutes. Poor defending on the left wing allowed Lillie Billson to cross for Whitter to place a stooping header past Davies. The pace of Kirby, Lauren Bruton and Helen Ward caused several scrambles in front of goal before Bruton equalised from the spot after she had been tripped making her way towards goal on 38 minutes. Reading dominated the second half to he extent that Davies barely touched the ball after the break whereas Quantrill was regularly called upon to save from Kirby, Ward, Lois Roche and Kirsty McGee. Kirby hit the post after turning her marker and Millwall defended valiantly to clear a succession of crosses and remain competitive in the tie. Just when extra time was starting to loom on the horizon, Reading got the winner their play deserved. Kirby run on to a loose ball and hit a looping long range drive first time, sending the ball into the top right corner, an effort worthy of winning the tie and setting up a home match against WPL Northern Division team Blackburn Rovers in the Fourth Round. The most impressive feature of the match was the sheer pace, effort and commitment shown by both sets of players in their first competitive match for eight months. Ironically, these clubs had fought a season long battle for the WPL Southern Division title last year with the decision going narrowly to Reading after a showdown at . Here, in very different surroundings, with very different line ups on both sides, another fierce contest went the way of the club. [email protected] Charlton Athletic 0 Sheffield FC 6 Sheffield FC cruised into Round Four of the FA Women's Cup by brushing aside Charlton Athletic by six goals to nil at SC Thamesmead. Four goals in ten first half minutes settled the tie before the half hour mark and the visitors maintained their control with two additional strikes, despite an improved performance from the hosts. Sheffield will now travel to WSL 2 side Durham Women in Round Four. Nothing in the opening fifteen minutes suggested anything other than a tightly contested tie with neither team creating a real opening. However once Sheffield started to find their passing range the chances came thick and fast. Charlton keeper Megen Issy Hayes tries to win the ball from Katie Hardaker Lynch made a fine point blank stop from Ellie Gilliatt but (www.jamesprickett.co.uk). was powerless to stop Carla Ward's low finish from Lisa Giampalma's chipped through ball on 18 minutes. Suzanne Davies added a delightful second, controlling a high pass before thumping a 20-yard shot beyond Lynch on 23 minutes. Two minutes later Kerry Parkin added the third from the edge of the area before Jodie Michalska headed a fourth as she rose unchallenged to head home after a clever coner routine undid the home defence. With the outcome all but settled with an hour still to play, Sheffield continued to move the ball around impressively to create openings whereas Charlton struggled to make an impression on the experienced Sheffield rearguard. Claire Wallhead in the visitors goal made one impressive save from a dipping cross but was otherwise untroubled before the break. Charlton returned with better attacking intent and Sam Pittuck was inches away from reducing the deficit on 53 minutes with a cross shot, then Kit Graham went equally close with glancing header from a free kick. Play was held up when home skipper Jenny Newman was injured in a challenge and any lingering hopes of a stirring comeback were squashed when Davies powered her way to the line and sent in a perfect cross for Michalska to volley home at the far post for the fifth on 67 minutes. Sheffield added a sixth when Davies was denied by a fine block by Katie Flack, only for the ball to fall for Ward to lash in her second from close range on 77 minutes. The power and excellent teamwork of the victors was highly impressive. Even when Pittuck had a late chance to grab a consolation she was denied by a fine sliding block by Natasha Cooke as Sheffeld confirmed a convincing win. It was easy to see how Sheffield are riding high at the top of the Northern Division of the Premier League as the team has strength and experience all over the pitch and clinical finishers to convert the chances created. [email protected] believes last week's workout against Finland was a welcome warm-up for March's Cup. 's women's national team lost 3-1 in the Eerikkilä Sports Institute, scoring their goal, but the result was of secondary importance to reacquainting the squad during what is the off-season for many of its players. With Scotland ideally placed in World Cup 2015 Qualifying Group 4 - top of the group after taking maximum points from their first four games - Anna has planned for her squad to be an even more powerful proposition for the resumption of the qualifying campaign in April, with a double-header against Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Scotland have been drawn to play Holland, France and Australia in next month's Cyprus Cup and Anna will use all three games to ensure the team are ready to reaffirm their qualification credentials ahead of two potentially decisive fixtures against the Group 4 favourites, Sweden. "While it would have been nicer to win against Finland, the most important thing was to have the group together again," she told www.scottishfa.co.uk. "Remember, for many of our players this is pre-season and although we should have been stronger in both penalty boxes, I felt we played well. "We had some injuries and brought in some younger players so overall it was a good experience and continues our preparations for the Cyprus Cup where we will be playing against some very tough opposition, which again can only help us before the World Cup qualifying campaign resumes." and , both of Arsenal Ladies, were given an opportunity to impress against Finland and while Anna will utilise her full squad during the Cyprus Cup, she will do so mindful of the need to maintain momentum in the quest to make the quantum leap to qualification for next year's World Cup in Canada. "What is really encouraging is that we are definitely stronger, fitter and more powerful," said Anna, "and we will need to continue that improvement if we want to reach the finals. I have said already that I believe we can qualify after narrowly missing out in recent campaigns but it will be extremely difficult. While it will be useful to experiment, we must also realise the strength of those who have helped us to four victories in our qualifying matches so far. "The Cyprus Cup is a chance to show that we have improved. I am happy with how fit we are, how sharp we can be in attack - even if we didn't show that in Finland - and we also need to be stronger in our own box. "I am happy with how we are progressing and I am sure we will be ready in time for the qualifiers against Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina."

[email protected] Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce that the 'No More Page 3' campaign group will be sponsoring the Senior Players Kit as a result of a successful awareness campaign that is currently benefitting a variety of charities and sportspeople. No More Page 3 is a campaign to stop The Sun from including pictures of topless glamour models on its page 3. Its supporters include Girlguiding UK, Mumsnet, The British Youth Council, UK Youth (working with approx. 1 million young people, and 11,000 youth club, the NUT, ATL, NAHT (combining over 500,000 teachers, lecturers and Head Teachers) Unison, The National Assembly of , The Scottish Parliament, The Royal College of Midwives, The Royal College of Nursing, Rape Crisis, Woman's Aid, End Violence Against Women's Coalition, Women's Sport Trust, 150 cross party MPs and 28 universities and 6 Oxford University Colleges have voted to stop selling The Sun until it drops the page 3 topless images. NMP3 is a non-profit making grass roots campaign group who fund activities solely through t-Shirt sales with some profit also going to women's charities The campaign group, who are also the sponsors of Cheltenham Town Ladies, heard of Nottingham Forest Ladies' plight and have now enabled the seniors to play in a new kit which is due for delivery in three weeks. NMP3 said: "We are so excited to be sponsoring Nottingham Forest Ladies and nobody is more excited than our own Lisa Clarke who was born and bred in Nottingham and is a huge Nottingham Forest fan. To hear that the ladies' set up were struggling after so many years hard work makes it a pleasure to be able to help their cause. "We at NMP3 are dedicated to seeing a more equal representation of women in the media. A big move towards that would be more coverage of women's sport as this currently only makes up 5% of the total sports coverage. Women are making news in sport every week and we don't get to see it. How fabulous would it be if we stopped the sexual images of women in our papers that make girls feel that their role is only to decorate and instead inspired the next generation of young women to action by showcasing sportswomen? "Lisa and the rest of the No more Page 3 team are really looking forward to seeing the Forest ladies in their kits and cheering them on as they say "No More Page 3" every time they play. We are so thrilled and excited to be working with Nottingham Forest Ladies FC!!! #kiton #lotsofgoals" Club Chairperson PJ Andrews responded: "To be supported by NMP3 is a huge boost and to highlight the work of NMP3 in the process is an initiative fully embraced by our club members. So far more than 135,000 have signed their petition and a fair few of our members are amongst them. The current kit is really worn so the seniors can now look forward to delivery of the new one and look and feel the part but know they are highlighting awareness of such a nationally supported project."

Arsenal have signed Japan internationals Yukari Kinga and Shinobu Ohno ahead of the new FA WSL season. The pair helped Japan win the World Cup in Germany in 2011 and were silver medal winners at the London 2012 Olympics, where they reached the final at Wembley and played the United States in front of a record 80,000 crowd. Kinga and Ohno also impressed in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal Ladies during the Gunners' tour of Japan in November 2011. Kinga, 29, joins Arsenal from L.League champions INAC Kobe. An experienced defender, she has 87 caps for her country. Ohno arrives in north London from two-time UEFA Women's Champions League winners Olympique Lyonnais. The 30-year-old forward previously enjoyed spells in Japan with NTV Beleza and INAC Kobe. She has 39 goals in 116 appearances for Japan. Arsenal general manager Vic Akers was delighted to welcome the Japanese duo to the Club: "Yukari and Shinobu are both extremely experienced internationals, who are proven at the very top level," he said. "They will add real quality to our squad and we are delighted to welcome them to Arsenal Ladies." [email protected] Northern Combination The derby match ended with honours even but did return Mossley Hill to the top of the table following their 1-1 draw with Liverpool Feds, who also remain in the running. Megan Brodie scored from the penalty spot for Mossley, who have moved a point ahead of second placed County, while the Feds earned a share of the spoils through Debbie Hancock and they are now seven points off the pace, with three games in hand. Midland Combination Loughborough Students' chances of challenging for the runners-up position were dealt a severe blow as they were beaten 6-1 by Rotherham Utd, who have moved level on points with them in third place. Nat Shaw hit a hat-trick for Rotherham along with a Grace Birchall brace and Jess Birtles, while Laura Williams grabbed a consolation for the home side. South West Combination Exeter City played their first league match since 8th December and it turned out to be a successful one, notching up a 2-1 victory away to Shanklin. Tasha Knapman scored both goals for Exeter, who can still get themselves amongst the front runners in the league by winning their games in hand. * All matches in the South East Combination were postponed.

Shanklin 1 Exeter 2. [email protected] Crystal Palace stole the headlines on Sunday with a shock 2-0 victory over Premier League side Derby County in the F.A.Women's Cup Third Round. We spoke to Eagles striker Roschelle Shakes and she reflected with great pride on the win and the support the team received on the day, whilst looking forward to their Fourth Round tie against Portsmouth: Many congratulations on your win over Derby, do you feel the result was a deserved one? Yes very much so, on the whole for much of the game it remained competitive and I believe on balance we created more clear cut chances. Derby did create goalscoring opportunities, as would be expected of a Premier League side, but so did we - I was guilty of missing a couple!! Though definitely on reflection, we played very well and deserved the win. You had a large and noisy Palace crowd following you, how good an occasion was it? The crowd was our 12th woman. For many of the team it was the first time they have played under such an atmosphere. For me, being a bit more experienced, it added to the occasion and created that FA Cup atmosphere. All of the girls said that the crowd played a massive part in encouraging us, I do think they were quite intimidating for the opposition also. Did you approach the match with confidence that you could win? Yes, Dean (our manager), Rich and Ray (our coaches) and the rest of the support staff had told us during preparation that we had as much right as anybody to be in the position we were in and to not be daunted by the difference in league status. I think personally the difference was made during the half team talk which emphasised that we very much played ourselves in the game and it was our chance to go and win it, which i think spurred us on for the second half. Now you will be at home to Portsmouth, do you and the team feel you can do it all over again? We have to have confidence but not arrogance to do so. I think that most people involved in the women's game would have predicted that this little regional team is going to have their fun day out but lose. The result against Derby has given us the belief that we are good enough. Portsmouth are going to be a very different opposition, but as you know with cup games its what you put in for those 90 minutes and we will go into the game with that belief. The last few years have not been great ones for Crystal Palace, is this the sort of result which suggests a much brighter future? I have only started playing for Palace this season, but immediately I was impressed with the professionalism that runs through the whole club, so unfortunately I cannot comment on previous seasons. What I can say is that yes, from the outset, Dean and the club have very high but realistic aspirations for us girls and this is a step in the right direction as well as our focus on the league. You are still well involved in the title race in your league, are there any concerns that the cup run might distract things from that? Definitely not! As i said in my previous answer we have our target to win the league and that is very much still on the agenda for the whole team and management. This run in the FA Cup, as I see it, is reward for our hard work and effort that we are putting into training and games. This week you are due to go to Westfield in the Surrey County Cup, weather permitting, will it be hard for the team to get their feet back on the ground? No, we want to be as successful as we can in all the competitions that we are part of, we do not prioritise one thing over the other. Normal routine was resumed and we had training on Tuesday, yes of course there was a buzz at training, which only feeds well for the game on Sunday. However Dean is at hand to keep our feet firmly on the ground! He put us through our paces! London Bees are delighted to announce the signing of former Barnet FC Ladies goalkeeper Cherie Rowlands. The 25-year-old spent over five years with Barnet, helping them win the Premier League Cup in 2011, saving two penalties in the decisive shootout in the Final against Nottingham Forest. Rowlands also holds the record for most appearances with Barnet FC Ladies turning out over 130 times for the club. The goalkeeper also featured for Arsenal last season in both the FA WSL and the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Aston Villa have made another high-profile signing in Alicia Robinson ahead of their first season in the FA Women's Super League 2. Following in the footsteps of Emily Owen, Tash Baptise and Lauren Walker, Villa have snapped up the elegant midfield star, subject to international clearance. Alicia Robinson played for The New Saints in Wales before moving to the USA to play and study. She went to Hutchinson Community College in Kansas for two years before transferring to Clayton State University in Georgia for another two years. When Villa discovered she had returned from the States, they were quick to snap her up - confident as they were that her composure, passing range and goalscoring knack would suit the team well. Assistant boss Natalie Courtney said: "Alicia is a player we've admired for a long time. Once we knew she'd come back, we had no hesitation is getting her in. "Playing in America has given her some great experiences. She has matured as a player and will give us some more attacking options. "We like the fact that she can retain the ball with her short and long passing game. She will link the team together and make us more creative in the final third." Head coach Joe Hunt added: "We've had Alicia involved in the last three sessions and she has been brilliant. "Straight away, she is linking well with our midfield players and producing some quality passes for our forwards. [email protected] Solar Ladies have been celebrating winning the Division One North title in the East Midlands League and promotion to the Premier Division next season. "Solar Ladies FC, East Midlands Division One North Champions" is not a sentence anyone anticipated when the season began. The club was playing only its second season in ladies senior football after coming up from the Lincolnshire Girls and Ladies League where, in their last campaign, they finished runners-up. This achievement is the reward of lot of hard work both on and off the pitch and a real team spirit from what is a very young squad of players. At its core, the club owes much of its success to its off field backroom volunteers who include managers Andy Thornton and Glynn Cooke, both with ample experience in coaching the beautiful game. With them. Gary Summers and Nathan Stockwood provide much needed additional support in many different areas that all go a long way to keep the club running smoothly. At the beginning of the season the club added a little more experience to the team in the signings of Clare Pitcher and Sue Green who have played in higher divisions and both brought added quality to a keen and talented young squad. The season started off with a fine 3-1 home win against Alfreton Town and the season continued with two more home wins before an away victory at Mansfield, the team had started to find its feet at the new improved level and were now starting to make their mark on the league. The ladies suffered their only defeat of the season away to Sandiacre Town of the Premier Division in the Cup in what was undoubtedly their worst performance of the season. Solar soon bounced back with two victories before playing Notts County away and in what was their best performance of the season, came away with a morale boosting 3-0 win. The season continued with two hard fought draws at Sleaford and home to local rivals Grimsby Town. The team's form continued and its successful pattern with the title finally confirmed in a very hard fought 1-0 win over Mansfield. The managers at the club feel that every squad member has played their part in the success with keeper Beth French keeping six clean sheets and defenders Lauren Baumber, Taylor Cuthbertson, Jayde Sleight, Rachel Turner and sisters Charley and Clodagh Summers all proving vital to Solar Ladies being the tightest defence in the league. Along with having the meanest defence in the league, Solar Ladies have scored sixty three goals so far with strikers Toni McHamilton, Lottie Soar, Nat Aird and Claire Pitcher sharing 47 goals between them. Throughout the year the team has played some very attractive football from back to front with the managers preaching total football which has made the girls use possession of the ball to keep a tight defence and create plenty of chances. The combination of Sue Green, Daniella Whitworth, Ellie Casson, Charlotte Townsend have helped win the ball back quickly and provide plenty of ammunition for the forwards. Midfielder and captain Lisa Cromey`s versatility and leadership qualities have been at the forefront of the season, her never say die attitude and professionalism in giving 100% no matter where she has played, has been an inspiration for others to follow. Despite having fixtures in the league and cup to fulfil, the club are already making plans for next season and appreciate the step up is going to be a difficult but not impossible one and are already looking forward to the challenge. The club is extremely fortunate to have great support from players' families and friends and this goes a long way in ensuring the success on the pitch, Solar are also very grateful to their fantastic sponsors Unite the union and Arkema resins and coatings and hope to continue in their relationship with them. [email protected] BRADFORD CITY v CARDIFF CITY LADIES Cardiff City Ladies ended the Cup run of St Nicholas last month with a 3-0 victory, goals coming from Kelly Isaac, Naomi Clipston and Beth Lloyd. Despite having won the match against St Nicholas on the original date of the previous round, Cardiff only discovered their Third Round opponents last week when, at the seventh time of asking, Bradford City defeated Blackpool Wren Rovers 7-0 with goals from Sarah Danby (2), Rachel Lee, Abby Hunt, Charlotte Stuart, Rebecca Kendell and Molly-Mae Sharpe to set up a clash with the Southern Division leaders. Bradford City WFC was formed in 1988 after linking up with local youth centres already involved in training girls. The club became founder members of the Yorkshire & Humberside League the following year, winning promotion from Division Two. In 1996 they won the league title as well as the Knockout Cup and Yorkshire Cup, going on to be promoted to the FA Women's Premier League a year later. In 1998, the club reached the FA Women's Cup quarter finals - their best run in the competition to date - as well as the Premier League Cup semi finals but they were relegated from the Premier League soon afterwards. Fortunes began to improve after a few difficult years and they won the North East League in 2007. After finishing third in the Northern Combination last season, the second successive campaign in which they had achieved that position, they were promoted back into the Premier League where they currently compete in the Northern Division. The team is managed by Steve Winterburn with Faye Boshell as captain and, after taking a little time to adjust back to Premier League life, picked up some good results including a 2-1 win over title chasing Nottingham Forest. The many postponements mean that they have not played a league match since December but they have also done well in the Premier League Cup and are set to play Sheffield FC in the quarter finals next month. The signing of Sarah Danby has proved to be a shrewd one and she is currently the club's leading goalscorer and Caroline Omboyi has been a regular on the scoresheet in recent seasons. The likes of Charlotte Stuart, Emma Dobson, Aimee Driver, Chantelle O'Hara, Bridie Hannon and Carrie Simpson have all been regulars this season. Off the field, Sally Thackray undertakes the role of Chair and Secretary while Jo Woodcock is Fundraising Officer. Jess Pearson and Charlotte Stuart occupy the positions of Player Liaison Officer and Football Development Officer respectively. Thackley AFC will host an interesting tie between two clubs who will be more than satisfied with their seasons so far in all competitions. The winners will be at home in the Fourth Round to either Leeds Utd or London Bees. [email protected] Cardiff Met Ladies remain on course for a potential Welsh trophy 'treble' after they advanced to the semi finals of the FAW Women's Cup with a 5-0 victory over Cardiff City FC. In the tie of the round between the top two in the Shared Access Welsh Premier Women's League, Cardiff Met took the lead after seven minutes through Emily Brown and they added further goals before half time from Laura Walkley and Chloe O'Connor. Brown struck again, seven minutes into the second half, to make it four with Emily Allen completing the win with the final goal, a quarter of an hour from time. One other tie managed to survive the weather on Sunday and it is PILCS who are in the last four after negotiating a tricky tie away to Cwmbran Celtic with a 2-0 win. However this did not tell the full story as the WPWL high fliers were given a hard game by their lower league rivals in a thrilling derby cup tie, Alana Murphy went close to opening the scoring for Cwmbran in the second half. Lyndsey Davies hit the bar for PILCS at the other end and there were further chances for both teams until the final minute, when PILCS were awarded a penalty. Kate Jeremiah stepped up but Su Young guessed right and kept her shot out to send the game into extra time. The first period could not produce a breakthrough and penalties were looming but with six minutes left, PILCS broke the deadlock when Amy Thrupp broke through to lift the ball over Young and open the scoring. Cwmbran threw everything they could forward to try and grab an equaliser but the game was made safe when Lyndsey Davies scored a well taken goal on the counter attack to finally put an end to Cwmbran's brave effort and send the Pontypool-based side into the semi finals for the second year in succession. Caernarfon Town's home tie with Llanfair Utd and the other quarter final between Swansea City and Wrexham were both postponed and will be played this week.

Aluko, who was born in Nigeria before moving to England as a baby, believes clubs like Chelsea have a duty to promote equality and says this Saturday's game is the perfect way to showcase the good work being done by so many organisations. "Football clubs, especially those with a huge following need to support equality as the messages those clubs carry are so important," she said. "They have an impact all over the world so when a club like Chelsea stands up and says, 'this isn't right, we are against all forms of discrimination,' everybody else will buy in to it all over the world. "What the club says has an impact in places where things aren't as accepted as they are in England and it is important that we keep doing it and eventually that message will become normality so we won't have to say it anymore." Last week England captain spoke publicly for the first time about being gay and Aluko believes her international team mate's courage can prove an inspiration to everyone. "There is an issue in society with people just being themselves, whether you are black or white, you've got a different religion or sexual orientation, and there is a problem, particularly with young people being able to be themselves and to be confident in their own skin," she said. "When someone comes out and says, "this is me, take it or leave it," it empowers people and makes them think if she or he can do that then so can I and that is the most important thing. "It is not about individuals, it is about the knock-on impact of people being okay with who you are, whoever they are. It's important that people know it is okay to be who you are and if you feel different that is something to be celebrated and when you celebrate who you are it trumps ignorance. "All the things you think people may think about you, that gets defeated when you come out and say I am happy with who I am. "I hate to sound philosophical about it but that is something society needs, whoever you are. So for someone like Casey to do that highlights it even more and is important." The Game for Equality will see Chelsea FC's Building Bridges initiative join forces with Kick It Out, Football v Homophobia, the Premier League and to underline the commitment to tackling discrimination in all forms. Notts County get nutritional support Notts County Ladies F.C. has partnered with Forever, leading suppliers of aloe vera-based drinking gels and supplements, to support the ladies team in their football training as they prepare for the start of the season. Club nutritionist Matt Lawson said: "I cannot emphasise enough the importance of having what I call a 'real food' diet, however during intense training we are finding Forever's products helpful as part of our nutritional programme. "We've been using the products for a couple of months now. The team is using 'Forever Freedom', an aloe vera juice containing glucosamine, ideal for those interested in mobility. We're seeing some good results with the Argi+ isotonic drink which contains the amino acid L-arginine and vitamin C; early signs are that it reduces fatigue and tiredness during intense training." Notts County's ladies team boasts nine international level players after three new signings last month, including England and Great Britain utility player Dunia Susi who joins the team from Chelsea, Rachel Unitt from Birmingham City and Katie Holtham, who returns to her home team. It's not just the Ladies team that are benefitting. Les Bradd, Notts County's top goalscorer of all time and now an ambassador for the club, is an advocate of the aloe vera drinking gel. Bob Parker, Forever UK's Managing Director added: "Our aloe vera products are used by millions around the world every day, supporting healthy lifestyles. Being adopted by top athletes is a powerful and important milestone and we couldn't be more proud. We will be following the team's success with interest as the season gets underway." Everton snatch win with late goal A last minute goal gave Everton a 3-2 victory over Scottish Champions Glasgow City in their pre-season friendly at Petershill Park. With two players recently departed for professional sides south of the border, five Scottish internationals sidelined with injury and two recent signings also out with injury problems, it was a much changed City side who took to the field in front of their home crowd. Megan Mason, Alyshia [email protected] Walker and Abbi Grant all made their starting debuts with another six players making their first appearance for City coming off the bench, giving a total of eight players under the age of 17 years old playing for the SWPL Champions. Glasgow City struck first blood in what at times was a scrappy first half. Everton failed to deal with a City corner and Denise O'Sullivan struck a low powerful drive into the bottom corner to give her side the lead. Everton and English youth international hit the equaliser shortly before half time as she found the back of the net in a crowded penalty box. A mistake by City keeper Lee Alexander just after half time gifted the visitors a goal through Simone Magill, before match sponsor ng homes Player of the Match, , equalised direct from a City corner. With both sides pushing for the winner, City went close through O'Sullivan and Eilish McSorley, but in the 90th minute it was the Blues who struck the decisive goal as Parris scrambled the ball over the line after an Everton corner. Glasgow City will complete their pre-season schedule when they take on the re-launched English side, Manchester City, at Petershill Park next Sunday at 2pm. The ambitious English outfit should provide a stern test having recently recruited England Internationals , , and goalkeeper, , ahead of their inaugural season in the FA Women's Super League. Tickets are available for that match from the Glasgow City website www.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk or spectators can pay on the day at the turnstile. Prices - Adults £5, Kids £3. Dorset squad Head Coach Andrew Battison has selected the following squad of players for the match against Wiltshire on Wednesday 26th February at Wimborne Town FC (7.30pm): Amy Anderson (Corfe Castle), Alice Boyne-Manchee (Weymouth), Grace Butler (Corfe Castle), Gaby Gilchrist (Queen Bees), Molly Hyde (Weymouth), Bethany Letherby (Queen Bees), Elinor Mason (Queen Bees), Alisha McKirdy (Corfe Mullen Utd), Isabel Mullen (Queen Bees), Sophie Northover (Queen Bees), Katie Paul (Dorchester Town), Lucy Paull (Queen Bees), Annie Redding (Weymouth), Anne Roberts-Way (Queen Bees), Rebecca Vallard (Weymouth). Home comforts in Cup All four quarter finals in the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup ended in home wins to provide a semi-final line up of Doncaster Belles (Women) v Steel City Wanderers and Sheffield FC Ladies v Oughtibridge (to be played Sunday 9th March, with the final a fortnight later). Holders Sheffield were 7-2 winners over Huddersfield who contributed to a lively and closer contest than the score suggests. Lynn Goodman fired Sheffield ahead in a first half which stretched to over an hour, chiefly because of a 15 minute break after Town keeper Charlotte Oates landed badly and suffered a suspected dislocated elbow. Sheffield netted three times in the lengthy first half stoppage time, Carla Ward (pen), Issy Hayes and Abbie McManus all on the mark past Alarna Fuller in the 45+ time zone. Sheffield’s second half goals came from Ellie Gilliatt, Becky Lee and an opponent. However, no-one could begrudge Town what proved deserved, though consolation, goals from Deb Hastings and Emily Heckler (pen). Oughtibridge beat Hemsworth 3-0 thanks to goals from Chloe Roebuck, Codi Melia and Chelsea Burke. Steel City Wanderers reached the semis for the second time in their history, as they ran out comfortable 11-0 winners over Staveley who play three tiers lower and kept the contest fairly close up to the interval when it was 3-0 after goals from Zoe Beresford, Maria Burns and Wagstaff. Steels’ fourth by Laura Naylor came several minutes into the second half following a scramble at a corner conceded when Lorna Hill made a fine save, but injured herself in the process and later had to be substituted. Cheryl Mawhood (2), Jen Pearson, Lucy Smith, Beresford, Burns and Wagstaff all added to the tally. Sophie Brown (3) and Caitlin Dooley scored for Doncaster Belles (Women) who beat Sheffield Wednesday 4-0. Brislington through to Final Brislington reached the Somerset County Senior Cup Final for the first time in their history with a 4-2 extra time victory over Bishop's Lydeard. Sophie Whelan scored twice, including the clincher during the extra period, with Vicky Powell and Georgia Vandries also on target. Brislington will play either Larkhall Athletic or Keynsham Town in the Final. DO YOU HAVE ANY NEWS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE INCLUDED? IF SO, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! Laure Marris had netted Sherrardswood's goal with Liva Krastina on target for Bedford who went on to win 4-1 on penalties. In Division Three, third placed Woburn Lionesses defeated Evergreen Ladies 4-0 with goals from Abbie Ruddock, Molly Alderson, Penny McNally and Christie Pulford. Welwyn Garden City leapfrogged Garston in the table by beating them 2-1 thanks to a double from Chemise Hutson with Dani Freeman replying. S-Tech Cambridgeshire League Downham Town strengthened their position at the top of the North Division, going five points clear as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on rivals Deeping Diamonds. Olivia Hodges, Georgie Lingham and Shelley Woods scored the goals to give Downham a 3-0 victory. In the South Division, Lauren Lock and Lauren Threadgold each scored twice with Marianne Rowley adding the other as Milton Ladies beat Sports FC 5-3. Westward Developments Devon League Despite the atrocious weather earlier in the week, a number of teams were able to play fixtures at the weekend. AFC Plympton didn't take any chances with the weather and arranged with Activate to play on the 3G surface. They were rewarded for their efforts, winning their League Cup quarter final tie 5-1. Chez Phillips bagged a hat-trick with Hannah Yates and Stacey Gill scoring the others. Wednesday Wise replied for Activate, who fought hard against the league leaders, despite being short of numbers for various reasons. In the Premier Division, the students from University of Plymouth travelled to play Bideford and returned with a share of the spoils from a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Lucy Robinson, Beth Ellis scoring for Bideford. Barnstaple's long journey to play Budleigh Salterton in Division One proved to be less fruitful as they returned home empty handed following a 5-0 defeat. Molly Jacobs and Celine White both scored twice with Abby Yukon also on target. East Riding League Shannon Meyers hit a hat-trick as South Cave leapfrogged Kingston Harriers in the Division One table by beating them 3-1. Jay Appleby scored a second half consolation for the visitors. In Division Two, Victoria Dock enhanced their chances of claiming the runners-up spot with a 4-2 victory away to Filey Ladies, courtesy of a Shannon Walker hat-trick and Laura Matson. Essex League The weather had the final say over the weekend with only one match in the league managing to survive the weather. Due to a waterlogged pitch, Island reversed their Division Two fixture to Little Thurrock Dynamos Res' ground and moved into joint second place following a 6-0 success over their opponents. Hampshire League Christchurch made it four wins in five matches when they defeated QK Southampton 3-1 and they are now in fourth place.
