SOUTHWESTERN QUICK HITS Nov. 15 at McPherson 1:30 p.m. McPherson Stadium (3,500) - McPherson, Kan. -Southwestern and Saint Mary will meet on the football field for just the 15th time Saturday afternoon in a 1 p.m. contest on the natural grass of the USM Football/Soccer Field in Leavenworth. The Moundbuilders own a 10-4 2014 SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF advantage in the all-time series with the Spires after a 32-29 win over Saint Mary a year ago in Winfield. USM’s On the Field... last win over the Moundbuilders came in the form of a 45-7 decision on Oct. 20, 2012 in Leavenworth. -Ken Crandall (Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator) -Jimmie Tagg (Co-Defensive Coordinator) -Sitting at 1-7 after the first eight weeks of the 2014 season, the Moundbuilders are off to their worst start since -Wyatt Jiru (Running Backs) the 2008 season. That team started the season 0-9, and finished with a 1-9 overall record. -Victor Redd (Wide Receivers) -After missing most of the 2013 season due to injury, junior linebacker Eric Walker has quickly made his way to In the Press Box... the national spotlight. Walker enters Saturday’s contest ranked No. 2 in the NAIA with 13.8 tackles per contest, -Andy Krause (Co-Defensive Coordinator) including 16 total tackles for loss, a mark that ranks 6th nationally. Senior linebacker Paul Mata has also emerged -Mark Scott (Special Teams Coordinator, Linebackers) as a force to be reckoned with in the defensive backfield. Mata currently ranked No. 15 in the NAIA with 10.3 -Jonathon Lyons (Tight Ends) tackles per game. -Redshirt Freshman Mario Esparza has been nearly automatic in his point-after-touchdown attempts this season. Esparza is a perfect 14-for-14 in PAT attempts, and is one of 18 NAIA kickers that have not missed an extra point attempt this season. Ony six NAIA kickers have made more consecutive PAT attempts than Esparza.
