Saturday’s game is being played as part of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic 2014 SOUTHWESTERN COACHING STAFF Conference-Heart of America Athletic Conference football series. On the Field... -Ken Crandall (Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator) -Head Coach Ken Crandall will be looking to win his fourth-straight KCAC opener Saturday evening. The Mound- -Jimmie Tagg (Co-Defensive Coordinator) builders opened KCAC play by defeating Kansas Wesleyan for the first time in the Crandall era (24-14) a year ago -Mark Scott (Special Teams Coordinator, Linebackers) in Winfield, and are 4-3 all-time in KCAC openers under Crandall. -Wyatt Jiru (Running Backs) -Victor Redd (Wide Receivers) -Southwestern is hoping to avoid its first 0-3 start since 2010. Likewise, the Coyotes are hoping to avoid an 0-3 start for the first time since 1997. A Moundbuilder win would make KWU head coach Ryan Drinkall the second- In the Press Box... straight KWU coach to open his coaching tenure with an 0-3 mark, following in the footsteps of former KWU head -Andy Krause (Co-Defensive Coordinator) coach Dave Dallas. -Jonathon Lyons (Tight Ends) -Saturday’s contest will feature pit a pass-heavy team against a team whose best defensive strength is stopping the pass. KWU is averaging 374.5 yards per game through the air this season, a mark that is currently the best passing yards-per-game mark in NAIA football this season. Southwestern is allowing an average of 211 passing yards per game. The Coyotes have not been able to defend the pass in their two games this season. KWU allows 315.5 passing yards per game, and ranks 82nd out of 88 teams in the NAIA. -The rushing game will likely not be a factor in Saturday’s game. Southwestern is averaging just 75.5 rushing yards per game this season, while KWU averages just 89 yards per game on the ground this season.
